1 Dreams are Portals to Other Worlds

"Boring...Boring...Boring...A dog juggling? Annoying..." Lying on the sofa, I muttered as I scrolled through the Tik Tak videos.

"Really, how boring. There is nothing interesting to do." I sighed.

My life is so booooring.

Ah, don't get it wrong, my life is very good.

My appearance is above average, I just graduated in programming and already got a job at a good company as a junior programmer. I have a good family that has a lot of money, and I also have a lot of friends; I never lacked anything. But mind you, just because life is good doesn't mean it's interesting.

When you have a lot, you want what you don't have because there's no fun in what you already have.

I'm in my early twenties, and I've done a lot of things that many would consider 'interesting' and 'radical', like skydiving, surfing, and mountaineering. It was fun and exciting, but only the first time. After the first time, I didn't see any fun in it anymore.

I've also tried virtual games, but it's all repetitive, and the fanbase of most games is just a bunch of idiots venting their frustrations on other people in-game.

Fortunately, there were a lot of things left for me to experience, until the pandemic came. Now unable to leave the house, the only pastime I minimally enjoy is staying on my cell phone, looking for something interesting to read or watch.

That's how I found something that would turn my life upside down.

Leaving Tik Tak, I opened my Facemook and started to see the posts, when suddenly, an interesting advertisement appeared.

It was an advertisement for a game that looked like a D&D-style RPG, as in the advertisement, it showed a character sheet, but it was different from conventional D&D character sheets. This ended up catching my attention, and I clicked on the advertisement link.

Many would have knocked me over the head for clicking on a random link on Facemook, but a bored person will do anything to relieve their boredom.

When the site loaded, I was surprised. The page was well done. In the middle, there was the character sheet, and around the sheet, there was an extremely realistic and interesting cinematic playing in the background, like knights fighting a huge dragon, and elves fighting orcs. It looked like a cinematic from Lord of the Rings.

There were many sites like this, with cinematics in the background as you create your character or account. But the difference is that cinematic's animation seemed to be a real world, with real people down to the smallest detail. I wonder how much they spent to make something of this level of realism.

I'm not gonna lie, I spent a lot of time watching the cinematic before I even looked at the character sheet.

After seeing the cinematic until I was satisfied, I looked at the character sheet, and again I was somewhat surprised. I had initially thought it was a D&D-style character creation sheet or at least similar, but I was dead wrong.

"What are your powers? What's your story? Aren't they giving too much freedom here?" I muttered in disbelief.

Thinking a little, I concluded that maybe it was a text game, or maybe they made this site to get suggestions for characters created by random people to later implement in some game or story.

But whatever the case, I was excited because I liked the idea of being able to write whatever I wanted to create my character.

"Let's start. First question, 'What is your race?" I read the first question of the sheet aloud.

It starts like this, huh? Honestly, if there were options, it would be a lot easier. Since there are no options, I can choose whatever I want, and that's a problem for me.

You see, I am a very indecisive girl.

If I'm not given options, I'll probably spend hours thinking about what I want; I'm that kind of person.

Well, since I don't want to take forever to decide, let's go by elimination.

First, I don't like characters that don't have a human form. So animal races, like Fenix and Dragons, I'll take it out of the options. I know, dragons and phoenixes are cool, but I prefer humanoids.

Going to humanoid races, ugly races such as orcs and goblins will also be excluded from the options. Many may like orcs and similar races, but I'm the type of person who prefers a more elegant and beautiful aesthetic, than brutal and wild.

All that aside, there are a few races left, at least the ones I remember. They are Elf, Vampire, Fairy, Spirit, and...well, Human.

Let's take Spirit and Human out. I don't want a spirit character, because there are many forms of spirit, and it would be another torture to choose one type. I don't want a human either, because it's so boring to have a human character.

Now there is left Elf, Vampire, and Fairy.

Honestly, I hate elves. In every game and movie I've ever seen, they're a bunch of egocentric racist bastards, so I'll happily throw that option in the trash.

Now there are two options left, and my torture begins now.

Vampire?

or

Fairy?

Both races looked good, each has its advantages, and I'm not talking about power issues; I'm talking purely about aesthetics.

After a long time of mulling over the choices, I hesitantly decided to go with the Vampire race. There was no real reason to choose Vampire over Fairy, I simply needed to choose one of the two.

Writing the race, I read the second question, which asked about my character's gender, and I put Female.

The third question was about my character's name, and after researching names for a female vampire on gootle, I decided to go with Rosalie Vlad Dracul.

The fourth question was about my character's appearance, and I promptly wrote: long white hair, blood red eyes, divinely beautiful appearance, dressed in a Victorian-era Gothic dress.

The next question was about my character's powers. As there are no restrictions, I can put any power, this includes anime, novels, and movie character powers.

Thinking about it would be a headache, so I will just write in the powers of two of my favorite vampires, and other useful powers.

So I wrote,

All of Alucard's powers from the anime Hellsing;

All of Cadis Etrama Di Raizel's powers from the manhwa Noblesse;

Unlimited creation of Eluvians and absolute control over them;

Knowledge of all forms of dark and blood magic;

And that's it.

I could write down a trillion of different powers, but hey, my goal is to make a vampire, not a level one hundred eight-tailed ninja sayajin vampire overlord.

About the Eluvians. They are a special type of mirror from the Dragon Age Inquisition game. These mirrors are like portals, they allow you to travel between realms and even dimensions.

It may not seem like much, but it is a very useful and powerful item. You're welcome, Rosalie.

The fifth question was about my character's backstory. Fortunately, I was already creating a backstory in my head for my character after choosing the race. This is an ability that those who read a lot have; creating a simple fantasy history is pretty easy.

The backstory of my character, Rosalie Vlad Dracul goes like this:

Born of the night, Rosalie Vlad Dracul is the firstborn of the Vampires. A being that is darkness itself, but that doesn't necessarily mean evil. As old as the first civilization, she has existed since the dawn of humanity.

However, even being an ancestral creature, few knew about her existence, because Rosalie, as much as she was a creature of darkness, she did not like attention, because with attention, comes interest, and with interest, comes problems.

At first, she lived peacefully, but little by little, those who knew of her existence came after her, wanting to steal her powers, secrets, wealth, and her immortality.

However, the greedy and ambitious beings that came for her were all decimated. Tens, hundreds, tens of thousands; all who came, whether elves, humans, or demons, all met their end at her hands.

The firstborn of vampires was a powerful being beyond comprehension, but the greed of the other races was greater.

Rosalie, seeing that as much as she created a river of blood and bodies, they wouldn't stop coming after her, so she decided to disappear.

Creating a magical mirror that she called Eluvian, Rosalie traveled to another dimension, a dimension that lay between the realms, which she called 'The world between worlds.

It was an empty place, with nothing, and so it was perfect. In that place, Rosalie would create her perfect utopia.

And so she did.

Using her powers and magic, Rosalie created a huge castle to be her home and her resting place. She also created and installed several Eluvians that led to different places and realms, in case she needed anything.

But she was not feeling happy. Rosalie was a creature of darkness, she was not good, but neither evil. She felt sad for the poor souls who were tormented because of the wars caused by the evil-hearted.

So, leaving her dimension, she traveled in search of people and beings who wanted to live in peace like her.

And so, the years passed, and the number of people and creatures that she took to her realm, increased more and more. After a while, the dimension, which before was just a huge castle, now had a city, with different races living inside, all in harmony and peace.

Thus, Rosalie, the first of the vampires, who was Queen of the Night Creatures, has also become the Queen of Castlevania, which is the name she gave her kingdom.

....And that's it. It's not a complex or very detailed story, but it's enough.

Now for the last question.

Would you like your character to be part of a fantasy world you know or part of a whole new fantasy world? If you want your character to be part of an already known fantasy world, which world would that be?

Honestly, a whole new fantasy world would be nice, but I'd rather put her to be part of a world I know, but that's a bit of a weird question. Why do they need this information? Maybe this isn't a character sheet, but something like a test to know your personality?

I don't know, I don't care, as long as it's interesting.

On second thought, I had an idea.

Coming back to the question of the powers, I changed the Eluvians' abilities a bit.

In addition to being able to teleport us to other dimensions and realms, I added that it 'could take us to other universes'.

That done, I went back to the last question, and I wrote that I would like my character to be part of an already existing fantasy world, the world of Harry Potter.

All right! With that, Rosalie is part of my favorite world, but she can also visit other universes with the Eluvians! You're welcome again, Rosalie!

After finishing everything, I clicked 'Create', and a loading login screen appeared.

I suddenly felt tired and sleepy and looking at the clock, I saw that two hours had passed since I started creating my character.

It was already night, and sleep began to overwhelm me.

"This was fun, but I'm out of patience to wait for the page to load, I'm just going to sleep at once...yawh~" I mumbled and yawned; without thinking twice, I lie down comfortably on the couch and fall into the dream world.

As I slept, however, the open web page on my cellphone that was loading had finished loading, and a message was printed in place of the character sheet.

[Thanks for participating, have a nice trip!]

In the next instant, I was no longer on the couch.
