Chapter 2. Cher

There's no way that this man is Mr. Sanders, he has to be at least 30? I noticed I was staring at him, while shaking his hand still. But he didn't seem to care, he still had a smile on his face. "Um, I'm sorry, your Mr.Sanders?" I asked. "I am." He said, that smile has yet to fade away. "Oh, I thought you'd be older." Now I feel awkward. "Did you now?" He said laughing. My face was turning red, I felt so stupid to think that he was just another worker here and not the boss. "Im sorry!" I say quietly. "Please don't be, there's nothing to be sorry about, just a small misunderstanding." How can he be so nice when I thought he was supposed to be an old man.

"Im Daniel Sanders, my father is Michael Sanders he was the one who used to run this place. Actually, my grandfather Harold Sanders was the very first person that started the company. Back in 1950." He explains how his grandfather started the company as we're walking down the hall to the office I'll be working in. Daniel says how it was just one floor and they used typewriters to write out memos for everyone, "my grandfather met my grandma here, that's where he fell in love with her." We get to two glass doors, he opens one up for me. "When my father took over, he decided to expand the company and upgrade it." It was interesting how this whole place got started and how it just keeps on going.

"Just like my grandpa, this is my my dad met my mom and I think you know what happens?" He asks, "He fell in love?" I said smiling. He smiled right back at me, showing off those adorable dimples. "They fell in love." He said softly. "My dad handed over the company to me when I turned twenty one." He's been here ever since. I looked around in the office we were in, there were desks everywhere with a computer at every desk, over in the corner there was a girl sitting at her own desk, she must be that receptionist that was on the phone with Megan. Another beautiful girl, this one was blonde and big in the bust department. I'm assuming he likes the beautiful ones to be receptionists and the "boring" girls like me get to be a software developer. I look back over to Daniel, and he was staring back over at me, I couldn't really read him though. What was he thinking?

He clears his throat for a second and everyone stares up at him, "Hey everyone, we have a new addition to the family. This is Cheryl-Anne Evans.." before he finishes i whisper, "You can call me Cher." He nods his head. "This is Cher, she will be working up here with you guys." We walk over to the desk I'll be working at. "This is Nick." Daniel introduces me to the man sitting right next to my desk, he was a bit shorter than me, and his hair was dark brown, he didn't seem too thrilled to be here. "Nick, this is Cher." Daniel said. Nick looked over at me, gave me a small smile that didn't really reach his eyes, "Cher? Like the singer?" Of course he would say that, every time people hear that my name is Cher, they go right to the singer with that name. "Sure," I say slowly, "except I'm not much of a singer." I laugh, but it didn't seem to amuse Nick one bit, right next to me though, Daniel was laughing.

"Just be nice to her, okay?" He looks over at Nick, giving him this warning look. "Gotcha boss, don't worry." He sounded a bit sarcastic but Daniel seemed to ignore it. "Well, I have to get back to work, I'll check on you in a little while." Daniel whispered to me, he smiled and walked over to his office, which didn't seem that far away from where we were. As he was walking I noticed how the receptionist looked over and smiled and seemed to be a little flirty, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I sat down at my desk and began to work on some things.

On my first day I had to sign up to an account so that it could keep record of everything I did. If I was to lose or mess something up, it was all pop up on this account so I could fix it, or start it over. I looked over to the left, and saw Nick was punching in all these codes and it looked so easy. "Nick?" I whisper, he didn't seem to hear me though, "Excuse me? Nick?" I said a little louder this time. His fingers froze on the keyboard, and his head turned slightly, "Sorry to bother you, I was actually wondering how long you've been working here?" I'm just curious because of how well he knows the system we are using. "I've been here since Daniel's dad ran this place." He said while starting to type again. "So... since like the 90s?" I ask , I wasn't trying to seem annoying. He took a deep breath and let it out, "Yes, since 1993. I've been here ever since." He didn't seem to happy to be talking. "Cool." Is all I had to say.

The silence is bothering me a bit, but I guess that's how it goes at this place. Nothing like The Office, no office high jinx going on. As I'm typing I see The receptionist coming my way, her name tag says Brittney. "Ms. Evans, Mr. Sanders would like to see you." Even her voice annoys me, I mean she seems like a nice girl but there's just something about her, and I'm not one to judge. She just has this thing where she's so beautiful, but she's the bitchy type. "Oh okay, thank you!" I say back. "Uh oh." I hear Nick say quietly. "What?" I look over at him, why is he saying uh oh for? "Nothing..." he says quickly. Seriously? "No, what?" What is he saying that for? "Well, he usually doesn't have people come to his office unless someone's in trouble."

How am I in trouble? I just started. "Maybe I'm wrong though." He continued, "it's probably nothing." He smiles over at me, "Right!" I say slowly,  now I'm worried.
