God of Fist

(Asgardian POV)

My name is Donstagg. I used to own a tiny hut, together with my wife and our three children. I worked as a helper in the nearest Smithy. Life was not as bad as it could be. King Bor, the All-Father treated us well enough, but he was always taking us into war after war. I understand the need for war, but I also know of the importance of peace. Even though work was picking up during times of war, due to the long time and the amount of wars, I didn't earn more money. We weren't better off, we were actually worse off.

Food was getting scarce and I was no longer able to provide for my family. It was getting very close and I stopped eating in order to have my children and wife eat. Then we finally got some time of peace, when the first prince was born. Prince Cul, no matter whether it was his mistake, didn't bring us any time of peace. The next war was already on the horizon.

Then Her Majesty Queen Bestla was pregnant again and gave birth nine months later to Odin Borson. On the day he was born, I felt a change happening in Asgard. People were very happy about the birth of the prince. Much happier than they were when Prince Cul was born. I don't know why that was. Maybe due to the war still having been fresh in our minds ...

Whatever the case, the birth of Odin seemed to brighten Asgard a bit. The days weren't as hard and taxing anymore. It actually started to look good for my small family for a while. But then ... the war with Jotunheim arrived. All of the four young princes were to join the war effort at the front of the battle. I thought that while this was normal, it was still a bit early for the young princes Vili and Ve. I was wrong.

The reports we got told us that not only were the youngest princes doing well, Prince Odin was making a name for himself. It was said that he cut through Frost Giants like a wild beast and that he never slept but took over watch at night. He was fast becoming the crow's favourite. I found it hard to believe what I was hearing from time to time.

.

As the war went on, we were making great progress in Jotunheim but Svartalfheim was not looking as good. Those Dark Elves were famous for their strange tactics and their use of black magic. So after 7 years of war, a different strategy had been employed. At least that's what I have been told. It was getting harder for us to endure the war effort again. I was once again standing before having my children hunger. Although they were now grown and were fighting in this war as soldiers, my wife and I couldn't help but worry for them.

It was when even more bad news spread through Asgard that I thought we would lose this war. The youngest Princes, Vili and Ve Borson had died. Sacrificed themselves to save Odin and protect Asgard from the flaming giant Surtur. But just when I had lost all hope, good news was heard across Asgard. Prince Odin had almost singlehandedly, defeated the Frost Giants and killed so many of their giants. Their leader, Lorey had surrendered.

That was only the first of many good news. On the side of Crown Prince Cul, we were winning as well and yet we weren't quite finished. Rock Trolls had begun their attack on Nidavellir and were threatening to defeat the dwarfs. But before our mood could fall again, it was once again Prince Odin who saved the day and defeated the Rock Trolls and their leader Ulik, singlehandedly.

It was a time for celebrations and every man and woman and child was happy and sang praises of the King and his family. I could only hope that the next king would be a bit less concentrated on waging wars than Bor and his father Buri had been. But Buri wasn't that eager for wars. At least that's what I had been told.

.

And then the day came. I didn't think that I would see it during my lifetime. The young Prince Odin was getting crowned King of Asgard the new All-Father. I was excited to see it happen. And I was even more excited to see the changes that he brought. Not long after he became king, he already announced that there would be changes and improvements done to Asgard and every household would experience a big upgrade.

It took a few years for that to happen. We were asked all sorts of things. How did I earn my money, how many children did I have, how many people lived in my household and all that sort of stuff. Me and my wife were eagerly awaiting the day that we could call one of these new complexes our home. We were worried for a while. We saw the beautiful homes and gardens and thought that we wouldn't get to live there anymore. We thought that that was the reason we were asked about our jobs, to separate the poor from the wealthy.

None of my children were particularly wealthy. They had big families to take care of. I assumed that those questions we were asked were there to place us in a specific category. I was about to cry at that thought. But reality was far more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

The time came for us to see our home for the first time and when we were led to the big mansion, me and my wife were nervous because we thought that it had to have been a mistake. When the attendant assured us that we were in the right house, we cried tears. We weren't able to take everything in, that he told us, but what we understood, is that we would never hunger again.

.

It was wonderful. Simply a dream for my wife and me. I couldn't comprehend how the 'electricity' worked but it was explained to us very slowly and in great detail. People seemed to have more time or were friendlier. I could tell that they were instructed to act that way. But it was still genuine.

This leaves me with the last piece of my life. I thought wars were over. I know that was a naive thought, but it was a hope of mine. We hadn't had a war in nearly two centuries and I had forgotten about them. So when alarms were heard and we were instructed to stay in the house and activate the emergency protocols, I was scared.

Who would have thought that we wouldn't be attacked by Frost Giants or Dark Elves but ... an enormous sentient storm? Asgard was protected by the All-Father's magic and a big 'energy' field, is what they called it. We could feel the tremors in Asgard. The walls shook often and winds rattled the energy field but it held. Nothing was destroyed or damaged.

Everyone was taken care of during that time. Our King was fighting that giant storm. And he won. Odin Borson, the All-Father defeated such an enormous storm with his bare hands. I couldn't believe it. But I had to believe it.

I understand that my last day on Asgard has arrived. I served in the army for a while, but I was no one special, so whether I would go to Valhalla or not, I wasn't sure. But I was sure that I could leave Asgard and know it would be safe because King Odin would watch over it.

... I am glad ...

(Odin POV)

I looked down at Mjolnir and ... didn't grab it. I knew what would come from this. So I teleported to Midgard using runes. I brought us to a remote location. It was on a mountaintop. Nothing was up there except stone, snow and silence.

Then I touched the handle of Mjolnir. As I did that, I was instantly lifted up and dragged after the hammer. The dwarves were right. The storm was still raging inside the uru and though it had been contained, it refused to be tamed. It refused to believe that I had already bested it and humiliated it. I robbed it of its freedom and it wasn't happy about that.

We crashed through mountains and into the ground. The speed at which we travelled was very fast. We were around the earth in one second. I held on and laughed loudly.

"BWAHAHAHAHAHA, what a stubborn one you are!", I laughed at the situation. I could subdue this hammer in an instant but it was rather fun to see it struggle like this. It was a battle of will. Who would endure the longest?

Me ... I would endure the longest. But he just didn't know that yet.

.

I let go and landed on the mountaintop again. There I waited for Mjolnir to calm down. After a while it floated in front of me, trying to show off and tell me that I had lost and it was the victor. I smiled.

"How about this Mjolnir? I will give you the one chance to defeat me and earn your freedom.", I said out loud and saw Mjolnir vibrate in agreement.

"I thought you'd like that. Your pride as the Mohter Tempest has been hurt and now you are Mjolnir, a hammer to be wielded by me. So I propose a challenge. I will hit you over and over again. One of us will eventually yield. If you want you can even fight back, but the one who yields first, is the loser. How about it?"

Once again Mjolnir vibrates.

I take this as an affirmative and start to undress. I only leave my pants on and my upper body bare. I don't want to get blood on my clothes, Gaea made them for me after all.

I pull my fist back and then hit Mjolnir. I am powerful and can break planets with my punch but Uru is a powerful metal.

*BOOM*

And with that starts the path of me towards a potential new divinity. We'll see how it goes. No, that is wrong. We shall see how long it takes. I mean, I already know that but it is a figure of speech.

.

The hammer was made of Uru. Rubble from the rock of creation. The strongest substance in all the realms, even stronger than Adamantine. Capable of containing the Mother Tempest, the God of Storms. Strong enough to break worlds, as easily as it could break the bones of gods.

I was punching Mjolnir with focus. I didn't just want to punch like an amateur, but I really wanted to gain something from this. After each punch, I corrected what I felt was not good in my stance, my form and my strength. My fists were bloody and yet ... I didn't care. This was my training, this was a way to grow beyond my current self.

*BOOOM*

*BOOOM*

*BOOOM*

After one day and night of punching the unmovable Mjolnir, my fists became hammers in their own right. I could feel the improvement in my form and power. Hammers of scar tissue and focus. After another day ... a single day, Mjolnir began to quiver. It creaked with every blow as if it was groaning and then ...

... It dodged.

"Hoho, what was that? Did you just dodge? We were at it for two days, is that it?", I taunted it and Mjolnir vibrated again.

I punched it again but Mjolnir tried to dodge it again after the next punch.

*BOOOOM*

It could feel pain from my punches. I thought that was delightful and continued to chase the hammer down and punched it over and over again. After playing that cat-and-mouse game, Mjolnir seemingly had enough and stopped dodging. It stopped dodging and started fighting back.

It summoned a storm and lightning struck to attack me. But that only made me laugh louder.

*KRARAKKOOOOM*

"Is that what you call lighting? All I hear is you quaking in FEAR!! Show me what you got instead of speaking so arrogantly!", I challenged Mjolnir in the air.

A ginormous lighting fell down towards me and attacked me with everything it had. I welcomed it with a punch of my own. I pulled back my left fist and then punched with skill, technique and power.

*ZZZZZZZ*

*KRAKRAKKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*

The hammer was sent flying.
