When they get to the guild, they had already gotten Melisa back to her family. After saying goodbye to Melisa, they walk into the guild hand over their ears. The receptionist had wondered if last time they really had slain all those goblins, but now she was certain. After handing them there money, 12 silver and 30 copper. She then hands back the guild cards, however the ranks on the card have changed to D. "Congratulations on your promotion to D rank adventures, Ms. Scarlet and Mr. John, the guild would like to issues you a rank up test for you. Immediately if possible." She says this all with a smile.

"As it's pretty late, could we get the rank up test tomorrow please?

"Yes, that's possible, we will be waiting for your arrival. Have a nice night."

After waling back to their room, Johnathan sits down on the bed and asks Ruby a question he should have long ago. "You noticed right? How the personality I've been showing you is all fake."

"Yes, I have, after our first goblin cave raid. Your hands were shaking, and you never started a conversation with me. Putting the details together, it wasn't that hard. A extrovert never starting a conversation? That enough should have clued me in on it."

"Thought so. Anyways, for the promotion test. Can you lower your flames effectiveness? Set them back to normal? You have some sort of trick to fool them, right?"

"Obviously, I can lower the grade of my flames, otherwise I would have never agreed. On another note, do you have vol 2 of Hell's Notebook?"

"Sure, give me a second."

"System, how much for the rest of the volumes?"

He then opens up his pocket dimension and takes vol 2, and tosses it to her. While she's reading, he decides to open up his status

This was something he wanted to do anyways, as everyone would be on the lookout for magic, not a metal lump. Meaning information gathering just became so much easier. Also, in a magical world, he could make and modify a gun for his trump card. Who knows what types of bullshit he would cause his guns to do. But he was looking forward to it. He then closes his eyes and falls asleep.

He then wakes up to the sun in his eyes he sees Ruby's still asleep. He pokes her face and mutters "Wakey Wakey Princess."

"Mmm, 5 more minutes.."

"If you don't get up now I won't let you pick up any volume of Hell's Notebook for a week."

She instantly springs up and gets out of bed. The series seems to hold deep value for her, and Johnathan is starting to wonder if introducing her to manga was a mistake.
