Chapter 11 The Successful Surgery

After a dozen minutes, the car stopped at the hospital entrance. Pei Nian was about to turn to the man beside her to say something when Fu Yanchen gave an order, "Xiao Li, you accompany her inside."

Pei Nian quickly refused, "It's okay, I can go in by myself."

However, Fu Yanchen sat there, seemingly ignoring her words.

Xiao Li had already gotten out of the car and signaled to Pei Nian, "Miss Pei, let's go in!"

Pei Nian glanced at Fu Yanchen and had no choice but to get out of the car and walk inside with Xiao Li.

When they got into the elevator, Pei Nian turned to Xiao Li and said, "Xiao Li, you don't have to come in with me later."

Xiao Li smiled, "Miss Pei, I've been here before."

Pei Nian was startled by this, but the elevator doors opened just then.

"Miss Pei, let's go!" Xiao Li reminded her.

Pei Nian finally came to her senses and walked out of the elevator.

Outside the operating room, Pei Nian saw Dr. Jiang and her sister-in-law.

When they saw her coming, they stood up immediately.

Pei Nian walked over and asked, "Uncle Jiang, how's the situation inside?"

Dr. Jiang said to her, "The operation is still in progress. Although Professor Li did not personally perform the surgery, he is there overseeing it, so you don't have to worry."

"Is that so?" Pei Nian felt relieved after hearing this.

"Xiao Li," she turned around to the man behind her, "you can go back now. I don't know how long my father's surgery will take, so you don't have to stay here with us."

Xiao Li nodded, then nodded to the other two before turning around and leaving.

Watching him go, Dr. Jiang turned to Pei Nian, hesitated for a moment, and then asked, "Nian Nian, may I ask, who is this Mr. Xiao Li?"

Pei Nian calmly replied, "Uncle Jiang, he's a friend's assistant."

"I see," Dr. Jiang seemed to understand and didn't ask any further, "just sit down and wait for your father's surgery to be over."

Pei Nian nodded.

The three of them waited outside the operating room, not knowing how long had passed. It wasn't until the gray dawn broke through the window that the lights in the operating room finally went out.

Pei Nian quickly got up and walked over when she saw this.

The door to the operating room opened, and Professor Li walked out with the help of someone. When he saw Pei Nian, he said, "Miss Pei, your father's surgery was very successful."

Pei Nian let out a sigh of relief upon hearing this, and then gratefully said to him, "Professor Li, thank you."

Professor Li waved his hand, perhaps too tired to say more, and had his assistant help him leave to rest.

In no time, Pei's father was pushed out. His complexion was a bit pale, and several doctors sent him to the intensive care unit.

Pei Nian watched as they settled her father in and finally felt at ease.

She then remembered something and turned to Uncle Jiang and Auntie Gui, saying, "Uncle Jiang, Auntie Gui, my dad is okay now. You two should go back and rest!"

They had stayed up all night last night and should be exhausted by now.

Uncle Jiang didn't refuse and reminded her, "There are nurses here taking care of him. You should also go back and rest!"

Pei Nian nodded.

After witnessing them leave, she stayed with her father in the ICU for a while before leaving the hospital.

By now, it was already bright outside.

Pei Nian was about to hail a taxi to go back home when a car stopped in front of her. Xiao Li poked his head out and said, "Miss Pei?"

On the way back.

Pei Nian sat in the back seat and looked at Xiao Li in the rearview mirror, asking, "Xiao Li, can you answer a few questions truthfully for me?"

Xiao Li met her gaze, feeling inexplicably guilty, but put on a calm appearance and said, "Miss Pei, what do you want to ask?"

Pei Nian stared at him and asked, "I want to know how Mr. Fu found out that I wanted Professor Li to perform surgery on my father. Did he always have someone follow me? Also, how did you manage to get Professor Li to perform surgery on my father?"

Upon hearing this, Xiao Li suddenly laughed dryly and said, "Miss Pei, these questions you asked, as someone who is just a subordinate, I can't answer them for you. You should ask Mr. Fu!"

Pei Nian didn't insist and nodded, "Okay, I see."

She turned to look out the window. In fact, she didn't expect him to tell her the truth. She was just trying her luck.

Back at home.

Pei Nian walked into the living room.

Fu Yanchen had just finished his breakfast when he saw her come back. He spoke in a calm tone, "You're back?"

Pei Nian responded with the same calmness, "Yes."

"Was the surgery successful?"

"Yes," Pei Nian nodded. Then she approached him and asked, "Are you in a rush to go to work?"

Looking at her, Fu Yanchen replied, "What's the matter?"

Pei Nian looked at him and said, "If you're not in a hurry, I'd like to talk to you. I have a few things I want to ask you."

Upon hearing this, Fu Yanchen picked up his coat and stood up, facing her, "If it's not urgent, we can talk when I come back tonight. You haven't rested for a whole night, so take a good rest first." After he finished speaking, he walked out of the door.

Pei Nian was left alone there.

She pulled her lips together.

Sometimes, she really hated Fu Yanchen's attitude.

At this moment, Yun, the housekeeper, walked over to her and said, "Miss Pei, breakfast is ready. Have something to eat and then go wash up and rest!"

Pei Nian smiled and nodded at her, "Thank you, Yun."

Actually, she wasn't that tired after staying up all night, but there were still a lot of things that she needed to handle, so she forced herself to eat some food and then went to rest.

When she woke up again, it was already dark outside.

Pei Nian didn't expect that she had slept for so long.

She thought of her father at the hospital and wondered if he had woken up. With this thought in mind, she quickly got up, changed her clothes, and went downstairs.

Yun was preparing dinner downstairs. She heard the movement and looked up, seeing Pei Nian coming down, greeted her, "Miss Pei, are you awake?"

Pei Nian nodded.

Yun noticed the bag in her hand and asked, "It's so late, are you still going out?"

Pei Nian nodded again.

Then a familiar voice came from upstairs, "It's so late, where are you going?"
