21 Breaking the Rule

Classes the next day were very boring. Lucas droned on and on, and it felt like time was moving in slow motion.

During the lectures I spent most of my time staring outside the window at the passing clouds, however, even the sky seemed uneventful.

"That's it for today. Don't forget to attend the clubs you've registered for."

The words I've been waiting for an entire day finally came and I began to slowly gather my belongings, waiting for most of the students to shuffle out of the classroom before making my own exit.

As soon as the last student left, I hurriedly packed up my bag and made my way towards the door.

However, as I was about to leave the classroom, the door suddenly swung open and a person ran inside, not noticing me standing there.

"I've left my noteb-"

At the last second, she finally saw me, but it was a tad too late to react.

Thud...

Our bodies collided, causing both of us to stumble backwards. It felt like being hit by a speeding truck.

"Ughhh."

I groaned, rubbing my sore shoulder and turned around to curse whoever ran into me, but my words got stuck in my throat when I realized it was Lily, one of the protagonists I so sought to avoid.

'Shit.'

Cursing internally, I quickly stepped back and apologized.

"I'm sorry, didn't see you there"

I felt droplets of sweat forming on my forehead as I nervously attempted to defuse the situation

Act normal. Act normal. Act normal.

"Uh, no, it's my fault, I should have been more careful..."

Luckily, Lily was more understanding than I anticipated. We both nodded our heads and I was free to escape the classroom without any further interaction.

"What's your name?"

However, before I could disappear into the hallway, Lily's voice stopped me in my tracks. On one hand, I felt dread creeping up inside me, on the other hand I was somewhat annoyed since my name was called more than multiple times when Lucas was checking attendance.

Was I really that unnoticeable?

Well it's not bad.

"My name is Note, nice to meet you."

Straining my face to form something that resembled a smile, I glanced at my phone's screen, performing a slightly fake, but polite bow before quickly making my exit.

As soon as I entered the corridor, I began hastily walking away. If not for the students streaming out of the classrooms and bustling around, I might have broken into a sprint.

'Shit... Shit...'

I muttered under my breath, clenching my fists so hard that my knuckles turned white.

I've breached one of the rules I've made beforehand...

1. Do no interact with the protagonists

Walking toward the room where the club meeting was about to commence, I collapsed onto one of the desk's at the back of the room, burying my face in my hands

'It's fine, I can still salvage this, I've acted normal, nothing out of ordinary, yes...'

With such thoughts flooding my mind, I kept my head low, gritting my teeth until a certain presence drew my attention.

Sitting at the front of the class was a young man with brilliant blue hair and piercing violet eyes. He seemed exotic, however, this wasn't why he caught my attention.

'Demon Contractor.'

I muttered underneath my breath, crossing my arms and leaning back in my chair.

Being a Demon, I could sense the faint smell of another Demon lingering around the guy. It was faint, but undeniable.

Frowning, I lowered my gaze and studied him discreetly.

In the novel, next week we will have an outing and be attacked by the demons, however, I have no clue if this Demon Contractor has anything to do with it.

If possible I wanted to get rid of him so no unknown variables would be in my way, however, what if I alert the other demons that are planning this attack. If I were to kill this contractor, the Demon who gave him this power would be alerted.

This was an issue...

I need to kill the Demon that attacks the club during our trip, however, I don't want to create unnecessary complications or alert the other Demons to my presence, which would lead to a potential cancellation of the attack.

'...'

Narrowing my eyes, I observed the Demon Contractor more intently.

After a few minutes, I finally came to a conclusion.

From the aura he gave off, I could tell he was somewhere around F Rank, stronger than me but still not powerful enough to significantly threaten the club on his own. Yes, I would keep a close eye on him, but I didn't need to take immediate action against him.

For now, I will allow him to live.

Creak...

As I kept eyeing the Demon Contractor, the door opened and a certain person entered the classroom, making my jaw drop to the floor.

'What the fuck are you doing here!?'

I screamed internally.
