Not Yours To Own

Logs used to be apart of something, they used to live and respire. Trees had a sense of belonging, until they were cut down to for meaninglessness purpose. Over my sixteen years of my life I have never felt like a tree that was cut down to produce log. Despite the rough childhood that I endured. I have never felt this dead, despite my steady heartbeat and breathing which were a heavy indicator that I still lived. Right above the dark and cold hearted beast sets eyes upon my bark. The same beast that cut me from my root for his meaningless purpose. I should have felt guilty but I would be a damn liar if I said I felt any form of anger or guilt. Besides apart of being a log meant I were dead and the dead had no feelings. The traitorous beast's eyes roamed every inch of my pith. Eyes as dark as midnight and held back a winter storm waiting to freeze the entire universe with just a glare. The beast's breathing was ragged which reminded me of a choking hog. The smell of the beast's breath was one that could never be forgotten. It reminded me of rice water that went bad. His hands were as rough as sand paper as they roamed against my bark. At a fast pace the beast did his business above me. My mind was too crowded to think about what was happening. My body was also moving at his pace. The beast released a low growl to indicate that the job was finish and so was my life when two gunshot rang out. The beast's body fell to the floor and the crunching sound was a strong indicator that some bones were broken. A familiar voice called out but I was too weak to respond or comprehend what he was saying. But I knew my knight in shining armor had just slayed the beast. ....... Emeline Maier

I lived, breath and walked on this earth we all call home for more than a decade and its the first in my entire life anyone would hear me say I wish the earth would open up and swallow me whole. I have never felt so humiliated. The disappointed look on my dad's face said it all. My mom just stared at me like a complete stranger I couldn't blame her though. I bought disgrace to their family. I knew this jucey gossip would make headlines and earn a spot on the front page of the sunday gleaner.

It was only a matter of time before my dad eat me alive and whole. He didn't believe in chances. My dad was the type that drank his soup very hot. My mom wouldn't stick up for me, she was too chicken to do so. She would join with my dad out of fear and defend him. My parents didn't care about my opinions or what mattered. They did what they thought was best for me not caring how i feel about it. My mom never really had a say, she was always quiet. Fear is always evident in her eyes when ever my dad speaks. I always notice goose bumps erupt on her skin when ever my dad's uses his stern voice. I never really knew why my mom was so scared of my dad. His body was built but not too much muscles. To be down right frank and straight forward i think my mom is in it for the money. When you hear shop until you drop, that was my mother. She was a damn shopohollic.

I stared out of the window at trees different shade of green as we past by quickly. The trees ran further away from the car as we past making it difficult to distinguish the different shades. The car was laced with so much tension making it difficult for me to breath. I slightly cracked my window to allow the fresh breeze to calm my nerves. A gush of wind blew through my hair taking all my worries with it. I closed my eyes to enjoy the cool breeze.

What made matters even worst, my relatives would criticize and mock my family for raising such a criminal like myself. Not to mention my Grandpa, he would freak when he got the news. My dear grandpa would be so upset with me. But once i explain things to him. I know he would understand. The man was an older version of my dad but he possessed different personality if the two were compared.

"Emeline!"

"Emeline!"

I was so consumed by my thoughts that my brain failed to comprehend what disaster had just struct. My heart pounded vigorously against my rib cage like a sledge hammer. This was it for me, the end of my freedom. Knowing my dad he wasn't the type who takes anything likely. Like come on the man didn't smile. He's my dad but he pretends if he smile, his entire face would crack.

I never had any freedom or time for myself because my dad thought that i should devote that time into my books. The man literally turned me into a nerd. But after tonight i know I'll be fully blown. The car came to an abrupt halt infront of our luxurious mansion.

"Emeline!" My worries faded. His tiny voice was lie song to my ears. The one person that i cherished and adored. The most adorable face that belonged to my brother came into view from the front door. His smile was beaming as he cheered and happily. He ran as fast as his tiny feet could take him towards the car. His entire face as well as his hands were covered in a brownish paste. it was more evident as he got closer. I exited the car without exchanging any words with my parents.

"Emeline!" I stooped to his level and held out my arms and greeted him with a hug in which he returned. He was such a angel sometimes. I giggled at his appearance knowing his nanny left the peanut butter on the kitchen counter. Ever since Joey was a baby, he was a good climber. I honestly don't know what the kid didn't climb. I found it very unusual for kid his age but i guess its normal.

"Someone making trouble." I pecked his cheeks that were smeared with peanut butter.

He ran his peanut butter fingers through my strawberry blonde hair leaving majority of the paste attached to my hair. I didn't mind though.

He shakes his head with a wide grin. "No."

His nanny came bursting through the front door out of breath, sweat trickling down her forehead. I had to fight the urge to snicker. She graciously greeted my parents with the slight bow of her head. She never dared herself to look into the eyes of my parents. None of the workers do. This was sorta puzzling, its not like my parent's were god. I noticed how frightened she looked. She feared my dad and I knew him all too well. He would fire her ass before she could explain herself. My family was stuck up. It was really selfish of them to change workers every day that God made. My dad didn't believe in mistakes therefore the workers would leave faster than the came in.

"Emeline!" His voice was so angelic. It was like song to my ears. "I learned to write my name!" He could hardly formulate his sentences properly.

"That's great I cant wait to see it. I'm so proud of you." I gave him a big bone crushing hug. Truly I was proud of him. We were approached by our parents with the nanny trailing behind. They had the adocity to stared at their own mother fucking flesh and blood with pure disgust. My dad cleared his throat as if soothing got stuck in there. I rolled my eyes in annoyance. I was no fool, he was trying to get my attention.

"Mamma! Papa!" Joey went in for a hug dad pushed him away. I felt it for the poor kid. The disappointment that covered his face, his tear filled eyes knowing his own parents refuse to care for him. Been there done it. The man never had time for his family neither did my mom who clearly didn't have a mind of her own. When i say pathetic, she defines the word. Not that i would say it to her face.

"Get him cleaned up." He sighed before his eyes landed on me "AS for you Young lady we need to have a word."

I gulped knowing what exactly he wanted to talk to me about. Good God could my life get anymore complicated
