Chapter 22

The next week I received yet another email that my application was on hold. The reason? They had read and understood my letter, and they now considered my travel itinerary complete. But there was now another issue. I was not staying in a hotel. I had rented an apartment. According to their rules, I needed a letter of invitation from the owner of the apartment.

Now how was I going to get a letter of invitation from a guy who lived in France, I didn’t even know where, and had no contact information for, and get him to submit that letter to the embassy for me to get a visa approved in a little over two weeks? There was absolutely no chance of that. The man only spoke French, for God’s sake.

There was only one thing I could think of that I could do. I would have to make a hotel reservation. I ran it by Amir in an email.

“Fine, but you would have to reserve two rooms. We cannot stay together.”

“One room is already twice as expensive as the apartment. That would be four times as much!”
