Prologue

In the dark edges of the city, unseen by the eyes of man, there hide beings unlike any others. They were human, yet not. Their bodies appeared that of man, but their bones would shatter, tear and break, piercing their flesh and skin, creating monsters of your darkest nightmares.

But were they truly monsters? Or were they still human? Could we really subjugate and abuse them, torture and experiment on them? Or should they be treated as humans?

No one cared. All the government wanted was to figure out what made them tick, even if that meant dissecting them alive, over, and over, and over again.

"Man, fuck this." A figure spoke, sitting upon a shattered windowsill of a rundown building as rays of moonlight reigned down on him and the other three figures in the building. "This world is so fucked."

"Are such profane words really needed?" Another figure asked.

All of them had deformed shapes, bones piercing through their bodies and creating strange exoskeletons like armor. The man in the windowsill had a reptilian crocodile skull over his head, while layers of bone spikes and shelling covered his body.

The others had equally strange and unnatural appearances. They didn't even look human.

"Don't worry." One of them said. "It will all be brought to an end."

"One, the profanity is needed, yes, and two, when? I feel like I've been waiting forever, and our population has hardly grown." The man on the windowsill said.

"Calm yourself, Gankuro. As I promised, soon, this entire city will be devoid of humans, only Kokkaku. And from there, we will decimate this country and bring it to it's knees. This will be the beginning of a new era, the era of our freedom." One of the men said. He had a strangely humanoid skull over his head, except that it had horns and fangs. Bone wings grew from his back, black feathers attached to them while bone ribs and spikes covered his body.

"Yeah, but when? I mean, I feel like we've made no progress. The other Chassis are all at war with each other, so all the new Kokkaku we make just end up dead. So it seems so pointless."

"Well…" the man said, his tone dark and grim. "We will have to take more… drastic actions."

****

A man with an Aves type Exida (exida is the exoskeleton, aves is just species name for bird type) ran across the rooftops as he was being tailed by another Kokkaku. The other Kokkaku was much more brutish with a canine class exida. Bones layered across his body to make his arms and limbs thick as he hunched forward and bulldozed after the Aves man.

The man leapt from one building to another, spinning about in the air. Bone spikes grew from his arms and then shot out, flying at the other Kokkaku, but the spikes merely bounced off his thick bone shell.

"Damnit!" The Aves Kokkaku cursed. He needed to get away, or else things could get much, much worse.

Then came the loud bangs of bullets as they were fired from below, crashing into the walls as he ran. The Aves Kokkaku looked at ver the edge of the building as he ran, seeing special ops forces in layered armor suits aiming rifles up at him and the other Kokkaku.

And then a bullet struck the Aves Kokkaku in the leg, momentarily slowing him.

As he tried to recover, the canine Kokkaku thundered forward, ignoring the bullets that crashed into him as he lunged for the Aves, who rolled aside as his leg healed. He saw an opening in the other Kokkaku's armor, the elbow, and struck it with a blade of bone, causing it to stumble to the ground. This allowed for the Aves to get up and run, going the opposite direction of the special ops as they ascended the building to roof, surrounding the canine class.

He'd escaped.

He gave a sigh of relief and began moving running towards home, but on his way, about thirty minutes later, he came across a strange pair.
