Evelyn took a deep breath, steeling herself for what she was about to say. "I have an important announcement," she began, her voice clear and unwavering. The room fell silent, all eyes fixed on her.
"I am pregnant," Evelyn declared, her voice ringing through the silence.
"WHAT!" George, one of the leader shouted.
Evelyn met his gaze, her expression unwavering. "I am eight weeks pregnant with twins."
A collective gasp rippled through the room, and then everyone fell silent, as if a mountain had collapsed upon them. The weight of the revelation settled heavily in the air.
A day before the announcement.
More than a month was passed since Evelyn got to know about the child in her womb. For the first week she mostly hid herself in her room. She didn't wanted anyone to know about her existence. The news was completely hidden from everyone about Evelyn's health. All just believed that she needed rest. All this time Archie stayed with her.
Although Evelyn was against the thought of keeping the baby, still Archie made sure that she would take care of herself and he made sure nothing happens to her.
After a week Evelyn got normal. She again started to talk. As what Archie said she forgot about the child in her womb. She decided to forget about it. She had no answer. She didn't wanted the child but the thought of ending the life of the child in her womb was killing her. She didn't know what to choose and that's why decided to give herself some time.
The door creaked open, and her second-in-command entered with a purposeful stride. He closed the door behind him and walked toward the table.
"Miss," he began, inclining his head respectfully. "Everything is on track. We've successfully relocated all our equipment and arms to the new headquarters. Our enemies haven't detected any movement."
Evelyn allowed a small, satisfied smile to play at the corners of her lips. "Excellent. Keeping a low profile was crucial. Are we fully operational?"
"Yes, Miss," he confirmed, nodding. "All systems are up and running. We've transitioned from the open network to a more secure, hidden setup, just as you instructed. Our communication channels are now fully encrypted and secure."
She leaned back in her chair, steepling her fingers as she considered this. "That's good to hear. The open network served us well for a while, but it made us too vulnerable. From now on, all our operations will remain hidden. Secrecy is our new strength."
"Understood, Miss," he replied, his voice steady. "Our team is adapting to the new protocols. They're aware of the need for discretion and are fully briefed on the new procedures."
"Perfect," Evelyn said, her eyes narrowing with resolve. "Ensure that everyone knows the importance of this transition. Our survival depends on remaining hidden from our enemies. We'll conduct all our activities in the shadows from now on."
"We're ready, Miss," he assured her. "The team is committed to this new strategy. Our enemies won't find us, and we'll continue our work without interruption."
"Excellent," she said, rising from her seat. She walked to the window and pulled back the curtain slightly, peering into the darkness outside. "Let's stay vigilant and keep our operations tight. This is a new chapter for us, one where we control the narrative. Thank you for the update."
"You're welcome, Miss," he said, stepping back toward the door. "I'll keep you informed of any developments."
"Good," Evelyn replied, letting the curtain fall back into place. She turned to face him, her expression resolute. "Let's move forward with confidence and caution."
He bowed slightly before leaving the room, the door closing softly behind him. Evelyn stood alone for a moment, listening to the silence that enveloped the headquarters.
Evelyn gazed into the distant horizon, the rugged landscape stretching out before her, when suddenly, a sharp pain seized her stomach.
