Adeline remained bedridden for the remainder of the day after discovering Jacques' plan. With no hope left and her illness finally taking a toll on her body, she wasn't sure there was anything left for her to do but wait for death's embrace.

In the evening, Jacques noticed he hadn't seen Adeline roaming around the palace at all that day. He went to his room to check on her and found her wrapped under the covers. She looked so pale and withered, he began to fear she'd passed. Coming closer to her, he noticed she was still breathing, but was still not relieved at the sight in front of him. He gently jostled her, but Adeline only stirred slightly before turning over and continuing with her slumber.
