Amie's new routine proved to be ruthless. She found a job in a textile factory where she worked 12 hour shifts, six days a week. She'd leave early in the morning, before her daughter awoke. By late afternoon, she would be staggering back to the orphanage to quickly wash herself and spend as much time with Isabelle as she could before it was bedtime.

Amie couldn't stand that she only saw Isabelle a few hours a day, but she knew if she didn't work, Isabelle could go hungry. Amie kept her promise to Heidi and brought in enough income to not just help Isabelle, but to also help the rest of the orphanage as well.
