Quitting private doctor's job

Michael was lying on the bed and resting while Liam was sitting beside him and reading a report of the company and discussing Emily's progress.

"How is it going over there?" Michael closed the financial report and asked indifferently.

"Everything went smoothly. As I expected, with a rich resume like her, she was bound to be selected to enter Knight International"

"That's good. We will be able to see a good show soon." Michael's old face showed a sly and cold smile.

"Yesterday, Oliver asked her to see him at his office," Liam said narrowing his eyes slightly.

"Of course he would do that he was infatuated with that girl for so long how could he let go of such opportunity." Michael laughed out loud. His laughter was pure evil making people feel chill to their bone.

"Unfortunately, Ava will be the one to suffer in all this." Liam shook his head, but his expressionless face was a little helpless.

Michael looked at Liam sharply and warned coldly, "Don't get so moved by that woman, Liam. You know what is at stake here, you can't change your mind about all this."

"Dad, what are you talking about? I am not moved by her." Liam said indifferently but his heart missed a beat.

Before Michael could say anything else a servant came and informed that Ava was here for his checkup. So he let it go and put on a kind smile on his face before coming downstairs.

Ava checked Michael's heart condition, then read the test report carefully for the blood sample she took last week.

"Mr. Jones, your test reports are all very normal. And your heart condition is very stable right now. If you keep it up just like this, there shouldn't be any complication in the future." Ava said with a smile.

"Thanks to Dr. Green. It's all because of you."

"Mr. Jones, I just did my job, you took good care of your health therefore you recovered very well. Anyway, Mr. Jones, I have to tell you something. I'm afraid I won't be able to continue the private doctor's job anymore for some personal reason." Ava said as she packed up her medical bag.

"Why, Doctor Green? If it's about money I can pay you more." Michael said with creased eyebrows looking worried.

Ava quickly shook her head and said, "No...no... Mr. Jones, it's not about money, you already pay me a lot. It's something very personal. I'm really sorry."

"Doctor Green, you did my operation, that's why I feel comfortable in your hands. I trust you with my life, but in someone else's hand I will not be able to feel at ease." Michael was determined to not let Ava go so he kept pursuing her. After all, his reason for appointing her as his personal doctor was not because of his health problem, he just wanted to gain her trust and use her when necessary. Now that their plan was already in place if Ava left at such a critical point his plan will be affected by it.

"Mr. Jones, I understand your concern but don't worry the doctors in our hospital are all very efficient, I can assure you that. Please let me introduce you to a trustworthy doctor, I promise you will be fine." Ava said with a warm smile.

"OK. Will you come next week?" Michael was still reluctant but seeing Ava was determined he had to agree. He couldn't just force her.

"I am sorry Mr. Jones I cannot confirm that at this moment. I have a very busy schedule at the hospital these days, but even if I cannot come, please feel free to call me anytime you feel unwell."

"OK Doctor Green. Thank you."

"Alright, Mr. Jones. I'll leave now. Please take some rest." Ava stood up ready to leave.

"Liam, please walk Doctor Green out."

Liam stood up with his expressionless face and like a gentleman, he carried Ava's medicine bag and led the way.

"Why do you want to quit the job for my Dad?" After they went out Liam suddenly asked Ava.

"Personal reason."

"Do you hate my father that much? Or did Oliver forced you? What did he say to you?" Liam asked fiercely. He had a feeling, something was going on here otherwise why would she want to leave the job all of a sudden?

Ava stopped on her track and looked at him puzzled. What leaving her job has to do anything with Oliver? She said calmly, "Liam, It's my decision and has nothing to do with him."

"Then why do you want to leave the job?" Liam asked stubbornly.

"It's none of your business, so stop bothering me, will you?" Ava almost shouted out annoyed as she opened the passenger's door of her car to put her medical bag inside.

"Well, it's about my father's health so it is my business." Liam couldn't find anything else so he brought up his father's health.

Ava sighed and said, "Liam, I know you are worried about Mr. Jones's health but there is nothing to be worried about, he is perfectly fine and I'll never recommend just any doctor for your father. So don't worry."

"But I won't get to see you every week if you don't come here," Liam said in a grieving tone.

Ava was speechless, "Liam stop making trouble, I have to go back to the hospital now."

"Ava, do you hate me?" Liam suddenly held Ava's arm and ask seriously. His eyebrows were knitted together and the seriousness on his face was very rare.

"I don't think I know you well enough to like you or hate you. We are actually strangers." Ava said with a faint smile as she pulled her hand back.

"Ava, you are really cruel, you know that? You clearly know how I feel about you and yet you treat me like a stranger. What do you see in Oliver? He is not even worthy of being with you. Do you know why....." Liam stopped talking, seeing Ava's face was turning white and she held her stomach as if she was in pain.

"Ava, are you alright?"

"No, my stomach hurts. I need to go to the hospital." Ava barely could utter the words, her whole face was covered in sweat.

"Give me the key, I'll take you to the hospital." Liam helped Ava sit in the passenger seat and quickly sat on the driver's seat then start the car and drove toward the nearest hospital.

Along the way, Liam kept glancing at Ava afraid that her situation would get worse as he drove at a fast speed. As soon as the car stopped at the emergency door of the hospital, Liam jumped out of the car and scooped Ava in his arm then run to the emergency room. Ava has already passed out.
