No Deaths Allowed

Daron Finley wasn't the weakest student to exist in his school, but he was weak. Inheriting a body physique from his parents that enhanced his normal human capabilities helped in some ways. But without an ability domain, he could not grow his strength. His parents never had high hopes for him. They knew it was impossible without an ability domain. But they did their best to take care of him, even if their jobs had to have them travel a lot. Archeology had boomed with the discovery of ability domains. If one was to find a site with an ability domain, it would change their life. Daron's parents were both at a site like that. A rare occasion for the both of them to be assigned to the same dig site, but a welcome one. A hard clang was heard as one of them dug into something hard. _____ "It's your lucky day, Mr. and Mrs. Finley. It appears we have a power artifact." His smile continued. "Lucky day?" They both said. "Well, of course. This will be given to you after all." Both of their eyes opened wide. "We... we couldn't possibly..." Mrs. Finley started. ______ They both looked at each other. They knew they couldn't let this opportunity go to waste. Even though the director said this was their reward for their efforts, they couldn't help but keep in their hearts that they wanted to repay him one day. "Thank you Director Aaron," Mrs. Finley said. The director got the tablet packaged and set it into a portal that opened before him. His own ability domain, the ability to teleport objects to anywhere he wished if he had been there before. Though, he could only teleport relatively small objects, nothing bigger than a microwave. But many artifacts weren't that big so it was no trouble to him. Given his good-natured attitude, it's natural for him to have been to the Finleys' house. The package teleported right onto the countertop in the house, with a note signed by Daron's parents and the director. "We love you Daron! -Mom" "You're the most prized artifact Daron! -Dad" "I wish you luck Daron! -Director Aaron"

Chapter 6 - Mr. Gail Ecstatic

As he entered the school, he could feel multiple gazes on him as he walked to Mr. Gail's class. The news of his place in the competition had gotten around, and he did not at all like the attention that he was being given. Especially now with the system. For now, he would keep his system secret, and only reveal it when he enrolled into a college.

Entering into the classroom, Mr. Gail was already inside, which was quite rare for him to be in so early before class started. However, this did give a good opportunity for Daron to ask some questions regarding improving the Life-Saving Energy Focus technique.

"Mr. Gail?" Daron said.

Looking up from the laptop on his desk, Mr. Gail responded, "How can I help you, Daron?"

"I was wondering how to move while keeping most of the healing energy with the Life-Saving Energy Focus technique? I've been able to move one of my arms while using the technique, but I can feel that a lot of the healing power was lost doing that."

Mr. Gail gave a huge smile as his eyes shined. "This is wonderful! Even if you don't have the entire healing power with the technique, if you're able to move while using it, it will still be a massive boon to you in the competition. As for improving it further, I imagine the technique you used for your arm will work for your other limbs. But to keep the healing power, you might have to combine the two techniques you know into one. Keep the flow of energy in your limbs the same level as you did when moving your arm with the technique, but try to expand and retract it as well. You must not use more energy for this process, though, it must be kept at the same level."

"Alright, thank you for your advice, Mr. Gail," Daron said.

"Of course, and thank you!" Mr. Gail smiled. "You're probably the best chance at winning our physique class has ever had! Though, don't be discouraged if you lose. It's a hard battle fighting those with abilities."

Daron nodded as he went to take his seat. For now, he would focus on unlocking all his limbs while using the Life-Saving Energy Focus technique before trying to improve upon it further by combining the techniques.

Closing his eyes, he decided he would spend class trying to unlock his left arm. He was sure that Mr. Gail would be fine with this as it gave him the best shot at winning.

Focusing his energy, he noticed that a small stream would now go to his right arm now without him needing to do the entire process he had done before. His left arm was another story, however, and it seemed as though he would still need to create the energy flow in his left arm with the technique.

As the energy slammed into his left arm, Daron noticed it was significantly less of a force than had been applied to his right shoulder. Now he understood why the last sixty percent would still be there after he unlocked his limbs. With more limbs unlocked, more energy was lost. This would also explain why the quest had stated to get eighty percent healing ability to stay while moving. It was probably all the technique could get to when the limbs were unlocked.

As the energy flowed into his left arm, he found it easier than the first time around. As the energy reached his fingertips, a noticeable shift of energy in his torso was felt. He started the reversal process, finalizing the flow of the left arm with the technique, and as the flow became natural, a notification had appeared.

[Quest Updated]

Opening his eyes, he noticed that there were ten minutes left in class. A much shorter time had passed than when he had unlocked his first arm. He clicked on the notification.

Five minutes before class ended, Mr. Gail had called the class to attention.

"Now that the representatives for competition have been selected, the rest of the week will be completely free for all students, as you all should know. You still have to attend first period for attendance, but everything else you are free to go. Sarah, Daron, when the bell rings, would you two stay behind for a moment." Mr. Gail said.

Daron had somehow forgotten about the free week leading up to the competition. This was good news for him as he could focus on improving himself to the fullest before the competition, so he had the best chance at winning.

The bell rang, and Daron went to the front of the classroom. Sarah had also come to the front of the classroom, and as soon as all the other students left, Mr. Gail had addressed them both.

"As the representatives for the physique class, I want you both to use this week to try anything to improve your physique or techniques the best you can. Daron, you've already started this from what you told me at the beginning of class. I assume that's what you were doing during class. Any progress?" Mr. Gail looked at Daron.

"I've unlocked my left arm as well using the Life-Saving Energy Focus technique," Daron said.

Mr. Gail smiled and gave a nod. "Perfect. As for you, Sarah, you have an agility focused physique, but I want you to try and focus on improving your perception. The ability domain you're going up against is a speed type." Mr. Gail sighed as he shook his head. "Somehow, the first round ended up with both speed powers. This puts you at a disadvantage, as speed ability domains are typically better than agility based physiques. Do you have an idea on how to improve that area?"

"Yes, Mr. Gail. I have some knowledge of how to improve my perception, but it probably won't be enough to go up against a speed ability domain, especially so soon," Sarah said.

"That's fine. Just try your hardest. You're both free to go now."

Leaving the room, Daron had decided to go home instead of staying for the rest of the day. He had more leeway to leave during the free week, being a fourth year, as well as one of the competitors. Winning the competition would be hard, but he would do everything he could to prepare for it. With only four days before the competition would ensue, he was determined to get his quest to at least fifty percent before then.
