Chapter 225: PROVE IT, ANGEL

Selaphiel followed quietly, still in disbelief that Lucifer was truly unstoppable.

He wanted to think of other ways, to hinder him unable,

And yet...with the aura Lucifer is giving off, it was truly impossible.

Lucifer's eyes were gleaming with anger,

Anger in which, seemed incomparable.

Selaphiel had never once recounted seeing him this upset,

And to whoever had killed his ally, Selaphiel felt scared.

Lucifer sensed the fear circulating in the room,

And with the uncomfortable gaze Selaphiel had given him,

His suspicion only grew.

He was aware of his strength.

Surely, even a strong Archangel would have trouble with him.

Being God's most strongest celestial,

It was no surprise that someone would have to eventually, stab him in the back.

It was just too silly to him,

That someone would truly try their luck.

"You, seemed uncomfortable,"

His deep voice broke the silence between them.

Selaphiel involuntarily twitched his fingers,

Surprised that the demon have spoken.

"I was just wondering how we'd win,"

Selaphiel replied quickly.

Lucifer was surprised of his thoughts,

After all, before, he didn't look that bothered.

"Worried? Hah, that's not like you,

You're not suited to such expression.

It's as if you have no faith in my abilities,

And my allies, and my preparations."

"I just have qualms about all of this.

What if someone tramples our plans?"

Lucifer smiled knowingly,

And he wondered if Selaphiel was truly sincere,

or was just covering his true intentions.

He looked at Selaphiel closer,

His eyes even angrier.

Trying to look for the expected deception,

Trying to make the angel admit with his own words.

"Oh, the angels can try all they want, I'd still beat them,

After all, if they truly are capable,

They could have just finished me off all those years ago.

But...it's a never-ending cycle,

I have countless chances to rule the world.

And this time,

I know I'd win and rule.

Your God is just a coward.

He's Mighty and strong, huh?

But why am I still roaming His lands?

Perhaps He just wanted something to watch.

To make Himself busy somewhat.

Perhaps it makes Him glad,

Seeing all of you try and fight me back."

"But, I'm on your side, Lucifer."

"Oh, are you really, brother?"

The word echoed in Selaphiel's head,

A certain memory from their past, suddenly washed ashore.

He looked at Lucifer with a saddened look,

Remembering with great detail, his own very words.

...

*flashback*

Heaven had been filled with all sorts of sounds lately.

But not because of the songs of praise, nor was it because of happiness.

It was utter chaos, two sides reasoning the other.

Michael felt quite uncertain of how to approach it, so he gave to task to a far stern leader.

"I've heard the one who started it was Lucifer."

"Lucifer? But he usually isn't the one to start troubles."

"Check it for yourself then.

Find out why the lower angels are fighting suddenly.

It's quite alarming,

Heaven had never been this...noisy."

Selaphiel took a deep breath and agreed,

And quickly flew to the part where the noise never seemed to leave.

.

.

.

And it was truly horrifying.

The angels had never showed such violence before.

They weren't friendly duels, nor were they sports.

They were truly hurting one another,

As if they weren't brothers.

The scene alone was enough for Selaphiel to fear the worst,

Was such scene caused by his favorite brother?

He could barely wait as he walked among the crowd,

Still maintaining the stern appearance,

Despite his heart, continuing to pound.

"He better not be around.."

He whispered to himself,

Praying that his beloved boy wasn't in the crowd.

Angels then suddenly quiet down after hearing the steps of the curse-maker.

And everyone bowed, all except for the allies of Lucifer.

Even Lucifer showed little respect and quickly made way towards him,

Excitement, apparent in his face.

Selaphiel wondered what words would come out of his lips,

He had expected a lot of things, but nothing as surreal as this:

"I have decided what I want to be, brother!

I've decided what great thing I would become!"

"And that is?"

"I want to be God! To be the strongest one alive,

Surely with my gifts, it won't be possible, so I'll try!"

"What? Am I hearing things right?"

Selaphiel looked around,

And was not loving the sight.

"You have destroyed our unity by that silly thought of yours,"

"It wasn't just a silly thought, I'm serious."

"You're right. You are serious. Seriously insane if you think you can be higher than the Lord.

You're too young, too naive, so just behave like you've always been before."

But than regret and an apologetic look,

Lucifer looked at him, deeply angered.

His fists crumpling and shaking,

As if thinking of even punching him.

Selaphiel was sickened at the creature Lucifer have become.

He never thought he would be this far gone.

He wondered if it was his fault.

Lucifer showed signs of pride before, but never this serious.

"You need to understand me more, brother.

What's so wrong about striving to be better?

Why can't I be stronger?

Why can't I dream higher?"

"You are harming everyone else around you by opposing God.

You need to know your place."

"And what? Just stay in this boring kingdom where we do the same things?

Sing to Him? Praise Him? Follow Him?

I want something different."

"You aim for something better? No, you're looking for disaster.

Haven't I told you before?

We must follow our Master."

"But I don't want to,

I have a mind of my own,

Surely if it wasn't meant to be,

I would have been stopped by now.

Why can't you just accept it?

This might be my destiny.

To stand tall in your front,

And command you all.

After all, I'm worth three archangels, am I not?

So it must be a sign. I could be God."

Selaphiel's patience grew thin,

And his composure broke lose.

He gritted his teeth,

And walked more close.

"I'm not taking your side this time, Lucifer."

"But, you said you'll always support me with my endevours!"

"Endevours? This is a bunch of delusions!

What angel would dare fly higher than their wings could take them?

Drop it all, Lucifer, or I will be forced to curse you and send you to the depths of the earth."

"Think clearly, brother. If you join me, we could rule togethe-"

"This is madness! You are no longer my brother!

You are no longer worthy of all the praise you've recieved!

I shouldn't have showered you with compliments and affections,

Now that you think you could rule the world.

If only I knew that all those love would turn into poison,

If only I knew your confidence would make you choose such decisions.

I would have not spoiled you with that much love,

You...are such an insolent child.

For just who are you, to dare challenge God?"

...

"But...I'm truly taking your side,"

"What if you really aren't? Like last time?"

Selaphiel grew silent, then looked the other way,

"I was wrong. I shouldn't have cursed you, you should have stayed."

"And you should have just thought for yourself, huh?"

Lucifer casted a thousand arrows at once,

Making the archangel, flinch in surprise.

"Tell me, you aren't thinking of betraying me now, are you?"

Selaphiel looked at him directly, and firmly said, "no."

Lucifer smiled, and vivid were his eyes.

"Good. Now merge with me this time."

The order sent chills on the archangel's spine,

He just...couldn't believe everything.

"Why? Are you still on God's side?

I thought we're supposed to be a team, so why not?"

"I...was just surprised, that's all.

You always merge with Satan,

We may not be compatible."

"Do you doubt me, Selaphiel?"

The angel further felt threatened,

So he shook his head.

It earned him a smug grin from the Devil,

Who only repeated his suggestion, this time, more firm.

"Merge with me Selaphiel, and we'd have no trouble killing the angels.

With your wit and my strength, we'd be...an unstoppable pair."

Silence filled the air,

As Selaphiel deeply contemplates.

Once merged with him, Lucifer would always remain dominant.

Selaphiel wanted to deny him, but it'd be dangerous if he said not.

Lucifer on the other hand only smiles,

"I think..you're still an ally of light."

"No, I'm not."

"Then, why not?"

"Because...I'm more comfortable fighting on my own,"

"Or are you just planning to kill me with your sword?

Your eyes, Selaphiel...they haven't changed.

They still looked soft, despite your cover to be estranged.

You are not truly my ally, are you?

Because if you are, you wouldn't refuse."

"I am your ally, Lucifer."

"Then merge with me, we'll fight together."

Selaphiel's hands almost froze in nervousness,

It was the first time he didn't know what to think.

"Prove it, angel. Prove to me that you've no longer cared.

Merge with me. And I'll make you a Lord as well.

I assure you, we'd be an unstoppable pair."
