26 26. Assassin

In the evening after my training with Mr. Kartein, I was walking around the garden when the world awakened academy instructors stopped me saying, "You're Eunwoo Seo, right? You are unaffiliated, aren't you?"

"Yes, that's correct", I was confused because I didn't expect them to approach me.

"That's great. Would you like to join the World Awakened Academy?", they asked with a proud smirk on their face.

I pretended to think for a while just to give them false hope. "Thank you for the offer but I like it better here."

"Are you sure? Take your time to think it over. How can you let the chance of joining the best academy go so easily?"

I could see they were starting to panic. "Wow... I can't believe I defeated the 'best' academy's top rookie in my first spar. Still, my answer shall remain the same", I mocked before leaving to continue my walk. I could tell the instructors were furious.

While strolling I didn't realize when it had gotten so dark. I was a bit far away from the dorm so I decided to head back. Suddenly, I felt a strong presence around me.

What is this ominous feeling? It's suffocating...

That's when a person jumped at me from behind to attack. I was quick enough to put up my shield before looking at who ambushed me.

It was a man with red hair and a rather super muscular built body. We wore all black and covered his face with a mask. He kept attacking my shield with the aim to break it. I looked up at his eyes and saw the murderous intent.

An assassin?! No fucking way! How am I supposed to beat him? No, I'd rather not get into a fight... I need to escape.

His appearance was intimidating. I was 170 cm tall which felt super small in front of his 195 cm height. I let go of the barrier and jumped back. Since I was low in energy because of healing Duri in the morning, I formed a sword in my right hand instead of chains or a twin sword.

The assassin attacked me again but this time I blocked it with my sword. My arms trembled because of his strength. The sword was about to break when something or rather someone attacked the assassin and he jumped back.

Amyeong stood in front of me challenging the assassin. Isn't he supposed to protect Jiwoo around this time?

"Hyung...?", I said in confusion to which he looked a bit taken aback meaning he was yet to meet Jiwoo yet.

"Amyeong? What are you doing here?", asked the redhead.

"The same reason why you're here." The silver-haired boy then glanced at me saying, "Don't look."

I nodded and turned around. Is it because he doesn't want to see him kill someone? Maybe...

"Your target is this kid as well?"

"No, it's anyone who wants to hurt this kid."

If this was some other webcomic this would have sounded kinda romantic. Next, I heard a few grunting before it got quiet.

"You're Kartein's apprentice?", Amyeong asked.

"Y-yes...", I turned to face him with my guard up assuming the fight was over and thankfully, it was. He won't kidnap me again, right?

He eyed me for a moment before saying, "Even though Kartein didn't create trouble like Kayden, he still has his fair share of enemies. From here on, many will know that you're his apprentice. Get strong enough to be able to defend yourself."

"Yes, I'll try my best, hyung. Thank you earlier...", I said finally relaxing a bit.

"Also, I'm done paying my debt."

He didn't give me a chance to reply and disappeared. If it wasn't for him, I would've been dead for the second time now...

"You were attacked by an assassin?!", Kartein yelled after I was done telling them what had happened earlier. Jiwoo was out in the canteen with the other kids. He had invited me to join them but I told him that I would join them in some time.

"Yeah, but Amyeong fought him instead of me."

"Why would an assassin save you from another assassin?!"

Yep. This white cat is panicking.

"Something happened between them recently", Kayden explained.

"Eunwoo, we need to increase your training four times- no. Five times now!", Kartein said and it was my turn to panic now.

"Mr. Kayden save me from him", I said looking at Kayden with hopeful eyes. But the latter laughed at my misery.

"You're on your own, kid."

After escaping from Kartein I was in the canteen now with the rest of the kids.

Subin handed me a can of coke saying, "Wow, so our sleeping beauty is Mr. Katerin's apprentice? No wonder you healed Iseul's dog."

Since when did I become 'sleeping beauty'?!

"For the first time, I agree with Subin", Jisuk spoke.

"Eunwoo, do you know if your mentor is single? He's just so handsome", Subin said with dreamy eyes as she cupped her cheeks.

I nervously laughed. "I'm not sure..."

"Ha! As if she has a chance!"

Jisuk was laughing maniacally before the young female attempted to choke him. They truly never change.
