As the referee gave them the signal to continue, Lukas third gym battle, that was nearing its end, resumed.

Akihabara, "Use Yawn, Ursaring." "Ursa!"

Lukas, "Don't worry about it, use Calm Mind."

In exchange for getting drowsy, Kadabra finished Calm Mind, unfortunately the previous two already wore off. Being drowsy means that Kadabra is now on a timer and will eventually fall asleep. Lukas doesn't mind that, however, since he never planned for Kadabra to fight a drawn out battle.

Akihabara, "Get close, then use Night Slash."

Lukas, "Use another Calm Mind."

Instead of hindering the approaching opponent, Lukas ordered his Pokemon to continue boosting her Sp attack.

Because it isn't the fastest Pokemon species, Kadabra finished her Calm Mind before Ursaring entered effective range.

'Closer...closer...closer...'

Waiting patiently for Ursaring to get closer to Kadabra Lukas heightened his focus until the perfect moment.

'NOW'

Lukas, "NOW, use Encore and then Spell Slot."

Both of Kadabra's spoons light up, one in blue the other in red, before the same colors also appear around Ursaring signaling that both moves have been used successfully.

Lukas, "Now come back, Kadabra."

Not using this opportunity to attack, however, Lukas instead recalls Kadabra.

"Kadabra has been recalled against the rules and is hereby forfeiting the battle, the winner is Ursaring, Challenger Lukas please call out your last Pokemon."

Lukas already knew this was coming, so without missing a beat he released his starter Lucario from his Poke ball, kicking off the final match of his third gym battle.

By now, Akihabara and Ursaring already realized that the latter is affected by a combination of Encore and Disable, leaving it without the ability to use standard Pokemon moves. Of course Ursaring could resort to just fight with its physical body but unless his opponent is an entire major rank below him doing so is like asking for a beating.

Instead, they opted to retreat. Unfortunately for them, the referee gave the signal to resume the battle shortly after Lucario emerged.

Lukas, "Use Bullet Punch to catch up quickly."

*swish*

Despite not being his strongest or most effective move, Bullet Punch just like Quick Attack is a move that increases a Pokemons speed during the duration it is used for.

*Boom*

In the end, Lucario overtook the retreating Ursaring and attacked from its front, making it stop in its tracks.

Lukas, "Next use Brick Break."

Akihabara, "Try to dodge and block as best as you can."

*Boom*

Once again, Lucario successfully managed to land a hit, this time with a super-effective Brick Break.

Lukas, "Again! Don't stop attacking with Brick Break"

Akihabara, "Shake off the effects of Disable and Encore as fast as possible. *Boom*

Only after receiving another two Brick Breaks did the effects of Disable and Encore wear off.

Akihabara, "Finally, now don't let it escape, use Fire Punch."

Since their opponent is a Lucario it is safe to assume it knows Aura Sphere, because of that, Akihabara doesn't want to open up their distance from it.

Lukas, "Dodge and fall back."

Akihabara, "Don't let it leave."

*boom*

In the end, Ursaring's Fire Punch only managed to hit the empty ground.

Akihabara, "Use Yawn."

Lukas, "Counter with Screech."

Yawn carries most of its effect via sound, allowing others to use sound based moves to block/counter it.

Akihabara, "Fire Punch!"

Lukas, "Protect, then use Brick Break."

*Boom*

Seeing how his Pokemon's move didn't have any effect, Akihabara quickly called out, "Use Protect yourself."

Lukas, "Cancel Brick Break, jump off of its shield in the air."

"Lucario!"

Looking at Lucario in the air above Ursaring Akihabara thought he found his chance.

Akihabara, "Use Hammer Arm when it comes down."

Lukas, "Let's slowly bring this battle to an end, use Cross Chop."

Although Ursaring is of a higher sub-rank, Lucario makes use of gravity to increase the damage of his already powerful move further.

*BOOM*

The clash resulted in a deadlock.

"URSARING!"

*Boom*

Yet, turning in its place, Ursaring rotates and slams Lucario on the ground violently.

Lukas, "Get away now."

Through his suffering, Lucario takes advantage of Ursaring broken posture to quickly open up some distance.

Akihabara, "Follow it."

Lukas, "Use Aura Sphere to stop it, then continue to fall back."

*boom*

Instead of dodging the attack, Ursaring retaliates, using Slash to negate most of Aura Sphere's damage.

Yet, doing so forces him to stop for a moment, allowing Lucario to increase their distance further.

*boom* x2

The same happens two more times until Lucario managed to get far enough to use something else.

Lukas, "Swords Dance."

Since he opened enough distance between them, Lucario managed to finish boosting himself before Ursaring caught up to him.

Lukas, "Alright, that's enough, use Cross Chop."

Akihabara, "Use your strongest Hammer Arm."

Both Pokemon storm at each the other in what is most likely the last melee of this fight.

*BOOM*

Once again, the clash of the two Pokemon results in a stalemate.

Lukas, "Lucario, turn and use Iron Tail."

Different from last time, it is Lucario who manages to take the advantage this time. Turning in place, Lucario uses his extra limb, glowing in a silver white light, to attack Ursaring at close range.

*boom*

Although Ursaring tried to block with its remaining arm, in the end that helped little against Lucario's Iron Tail.

Lukas, "Now, end it with Brick Break."

*Boom*

Having lost its posture again, Ursaring had no chance to block or evade Lucario's Brick Break.

*thud*

Getting hit in its stomach, Ursaring first fell to one knee before collapsing entirely.

"Ursaring is unable to continue, Lucario is the winner. Gym-leader Akihabara has no more eligible Pokemon to fight with, thereby the match is over, the winner of this Matcha City Gym battle is the challenger Lukas Emerald."

"Yes!" "Lucario!"

Hearing the referee announce them, the winners Lukas and Lucario start celebrating together until they see Akihabara approach them.

…

After a short chat with Gym-leader Akihabara, and after receiving both his third badge and other rewards, Lukas left the gym satisfied.

His rewards for completing the hard challenge consist of,

1. 2.5 instead of 1 million PD in prize money.

2. A Neutral Ball worth 250k PD, this is the Normal type equivalent to the Air ball he caught Pidgey with.

3. A Gold-rank item radiating Neutral/Normal-type energy.

Speaking of Pidgey, she managed to raise her last stat to high the morning of the gym battle, meaning she will start her limit training. Larvitar will still take around 3–4 weeks until he reaches that point.

Both Gible and Feebas will also only take around a week to start their limit training. Unfortunately, Lukas is only left with one of the potions made from rare candy, meaning one of them will finish their training faster than the other.

Until evening, Lukas and his Pokemon spent the rest of their time at Matcha City with some light training. Sharing the news of his third badge among his family and after a short call with his mom, Lukas entered his room in the Poke center to sleep.

…

The next day, Lukas booked a spot at the local teleport hub to bring him to Lavender City in the south. Teleport Hub's make use of technology and some rarer items to boost the effect of the move teleport, allowing for long distance transportation. Still, even with the help of machines, it takes a Gold-Rank Psychic-type Pokemon to cross the distance from Matcha City to Lavender City. In addition to that, one teleport cost up to 75,000 PD.

Lukas mainly decided to teleport to his next destination from now on because he already has a full team of Pokemon. So he sees little need to wander the semi-wilderness of Kanto's official rout system anymore, especially since fights against wild Pokemon help little when compared to the battles at the FC.

Furthermore, spending 6–8 hours walking every day is a massive waste of time in his opinion, he only has a bit more than 13 months until the Junior League left to train after all.

In order to achieve a high ranking during the league tournament he'll likely have to face off against Gold-rank Pokemon so at least one of his Pokemon has to reach that rank before the competition begins. Though he won't rush his Pokemon's training regardless since their future is more important.

Now he already planned to spend the remaining 13 months training while teleporting from one city to the next to get the 5 remaining badges necessary to compete.

"Are you ready for some intense training?"

"Lucario"

Together with his trusty starter, Lukas entered the teleportation hub.

As I said, there will now be quite a long time skip.
