A large bag was slung over Adam's shoulder, it was full of loot he had taken from bandits as he returned to the city of Arkanes.

During the six months he was away the city did not change, it was still noisy and full of life, going a little further he could smell a rotten smell, something that several cities that Adam spent shared in common, which was the lack of hygiene.

Ignoring this, Adam went on until he found an inn with a big red door. It was almost, four o'clock in the afternoon, that was the time that the inn was with few customers.

Behind the counter was a tall, slightly fat elf who appeared to be in his thirties, his eyes were wide as Adam came over to the counter. "Old Pene, you haven't changed at all in the time I was gone!" Said Adam as he looked at the elf in front of him. "Adam you are back!" Said Old Pene as he looked at Adam.

"Yes, this trip took longer than expected, I was supposed to arrive two months ago, but, I made some contracts for the extermination of bandits, and I lost track of time." Said Adam as he scratched his head.

"The important thing is that you got here right." Said Old Pene.

While Adam and Old Pene were talking, a busty elvish woman came out of a door behind Old Pene, this was Pene's wife and cook at the inn, Irene.

"By the Goddess! You're back, Adam! Come here and give me a hug." Said Irene while she was already hugging Adam.

Irene was already in her sixties, Elves normally aged like humans until they were eighteen after that they stopped in time, it was common to confuse an elf who was already a hundred years old with a younger one.

After a long hug Irene released him.

"Look at you Adam, you got taller and stronger in these past months! Pene and I were worried about you. You just sent a letter and then stopped, we thought something bad happened to you." Irene started to complain about how I forgot about them and made them worry.

"I'm sorry for not sending too many letters, but I didn't have many post offices close to where I was, the closest was a month of horseback riding. Don't you trust my skills?"

"Of course we trust your skills, but Fafir County is a den of bandits and dangerous monsters!" I could feel the concern in Irene's voice.

Irene was not wrong to be worried about Adam, Fafir County was known for harboring the most dangerous men who fled the crown's power, whether for murder or any other act of cruelty they can commit, it was also known for having nests of man-eating monsters.

Everyone knew of this state of the county is the fault of his Count who is completely useless, since he inherited the title of Count, he did nothing but throw big extravagant parties and ignore the people, the best protected area was around where the nobles lived, the rest of the county had little or no security, leaving the people to their own care.

The Shire was a favorite of mercenaries and hunters because there was work ranging from hunting monsters and slaughtering bandits.

"Leaving that aside, I brought gifts for both of you." Said Adam as he took two packages from the bag and placed them on the counter.

Irene was the first to open her package, from the inside she removed a set of gold earrings and necklace studded with precious stones. Old Pene was looking at a pistol beautifully ornamented with gold and silver.

"Thank you very much Adam! I will guard you with great affection." Says Irene as she looked at the necklace and earring.

Old Pene was still looking at his gift, everyone who knew Old Pene well knew his love for firearms, even though he was an elf and was able to cast spells, he loved these little pieces of wood and steel that spit lead.

"Big sister Irene, you can fix my usual room and prepare a hot bath. I didn't rest until I got here, Old Pene, don't you have anything to eat there?"

"Hmm, there are ribs and some beans, this one, cold, you'll have to wait awhile." Old Pene says as he went through the door behind him which led straight into the kitchen.

After a while old Pene came back with ribs and hot beans, after eating all that old Pene served him, he took his bag and his old saber and went up to the second floor.

There were eight rooms on the second floor, four on each side. Entering the room he found a bathtub mounted and filled with hot water.

Putting his things aside and getting into the bathtub, he breathed a sigh of relief after a long time without rest.
