21 Confusion and Oath

Short silence enveloped the tent, only the wind blowing through the trees of the forest and the quickening heartbeat of Sigrid was audible to Oliver.

In tandem with the rising pulse Sigrid's mind was trying to piece together the strange emotions which were flooding her consciousness. As the realizations dawned upon her she felt confused and yet a tiny bud of excitement bloomed somewhere in her heart.

Her hand, which had been gently stroking Oliver's hair paused as she struggled to extinguish the strange emotions welling up inside her. Sensing the increased pace of his wife's heartbeat and the weight of her unfinished sentence, Oliver turned his head to meet Sigrid's gaze, finding her prolonged silence unsettling.

Sigrid's dreamy eyes met Oliver's, captivating him as if he were gazing at the most beautiful starry sky. But as Oliver became lost in Sigrid's dreamlike beauty, he couldn't know that Sigrid's mind was not focused solely on him.

Sigrid's body jolted and she began shaking her head from side to side in a rapid motion. "Aaahhhhh," she exclaimed with frustration, "now it's my turn to feel stupid." Her pout was adorable to Oliver.

"What do you mean?" Oliver curiously asked, noticing his wife's confusion.

Sigrid's plump lips formed a slight smile as she looked at him. "Sorry, I'm struggling to find the words…" She then put her pinky finger on her lips - a gesture she often did when thinking deeply. "Yes, I do enjoy fighting strong opponents but that has never made me think that something was missing in you, Oliver. It never even came to my mind that you have to be a battle mage… In the first place, the reason I fell in love with you was because you healed my heart and you healed it not with your magic but with your love and care for me when I was at my lowest. Also, the reason I'm so strong today is you. It's you Oliver, who healed me, restored my mana and supported me through my toughest challenges. It's because of you that I've become such a strong mage.

Even tears almost welled up in Oliver's eyes who did not often show such emotions. "Thank you, Sigrid," he just said with gratitude and love sounding in his words.

Sigrid's emerald eyes, glazed as if with morning dew, sparkled within her slightly flushed cheeks on her pale, bewitching face. Her moist, bright red lips curved into the most enchanting smile, lighting up the tent as her words continued, sounding like the most beautiful music to Oliver.

"Oliver, you are the only one who can give me so much, who has given me so much. And what if I sometimes want to fight some strong opponents, especially when I have someone behind my back supporting me and healing me up after my reckless fights. I can fight some Idiots and get patched up by you after if needed." As Sigrid felt silent her lips settled into a thoughtful smile, their vibrant hue contrasting against her flushed cheeks. The weight of her words lingered in the air, a testament to the depth of her feelings for Oliver.

At that moment, Oliver felt as if a goddess of unparalleled beauty and purest of heart had graced him with her presence. His resolve strengthened as an oath formed inside his mind. "This is the time, from now on I have to accept it… For Sigrid, for her I could even burn in hell or throw myself into a bottomless pit. I have to accept it, my role as a mage, and as her husband. I had her beside me all this time, but like an idiot I could not accept the part of me which she truly loves… I felt like I had to become somebody else. But I, Oliver, will become the most supporting husband in the world. That was the reason why I trained so much in the first place…" As Oliver swore to himself an oath which he shall never break his body became lighter. "So that's what it feels to be free, free of regrets and thoughts about the unsure future which awaits."

Oliver's blue eyes shined with love while his joyful face sincerely smiled at his most precious wife. "You did it this time Sigrid, I can do it finally, I can accept my role. I'm Oliver of the Everbloom family and from now on I wholly dedicate my support and healing in the service of my wife, no, my queen - Sigrid. "

Sigrid erupted in melodious laughter. " Your Queen? Ahahaha! I like the sound of it. You are... able to make me laugh even at such serious moments." Sigrid struggled to speak as she could not stop herself from laughing so much her belly started to hurt.

"Hahahaha," Oliver joined her fully knowing that he indeed sounded stupid, but making Sigrid laugh was one of his favorite activities.

After a few more moments both Sigrid and Oliver with teary eyes out of the laughter calmed now.

"So, does that mean I can fight anybody without you getting upset?" Sigrid teasingly questioned Oliver.

"I suppose." Oliver shortly answered while scratching his head.

"Umm… Really?" Sigrid for some reason feeling bolder mischievously blurted, "even Jerome?"

As Oliver bully's name exited her mouth embarrassment welled up inside her. " Why would I ask such a question now?" she thought..

Oliver did not expect for Jerome's name to come up from Sigrid's side at this moment, taken aback a little he mumbled. "ahmm that..."

"Why did I even bring him up… I could have said anybody else's name..." Sigrid chided herself internally. "That brute… it's all his fault…" She smiled wryly and quickly opened her red lips again. "I mean..."

"It's fine Sigrid," Oliver interjected in the middle of her sentence. "Shit… even if I accepted my role… Concerning that bastard… It will take time... " Oliver silently said, his gaze flickering away from Sigrid's eyes. "But if you beat him up good, it's fine." He turned back to Sigrid with cheeks burning in a bit of shame, "from now I'll consider your victories as mine. So, it's fine." Oliver reassured himself and Sigrid yet his voice sounded slightly subdued compared to his proclamation a minute ago.

Sigrid shuffled her ripe body on the mattress closer to Oliver. "I can't say it to him but he's acting so cute being so embarrassed right now." Sigrid gushed to herself internally.

She then stretched out her petite arms and pulled Oliver to lay down beside her as she spooned him like a mother would a sick child. "We figured out so many things today, It's time to sleep my dear Oli" Sigrid whispered softly to his ear and kissed Oliver's warm cheek.

Quickly the husband and wife dozed off to sleep. At This moment they could not have known that in a few hours time a battle will happen which will change their future forever… For the Worse… Or for the Better…
