Transfer Student

Anzu waited hesitantly outside the door of the classroom. Her heart pounded, each beat suffocating. She had never met someone that was her age. Was she out of the ordinary? What if she had no idea how to socialize? She didn't even like talking that much. What if i'm rejected? Maybe I should have just- She cut her thoughts off. No. Anything. Anything is better than solitude. She watched the man named Aizawa talk to his class. She could hear the chatting voices. So many voices. She wiped the sweat from her forehead. The anticipation was killing her. What if they looked down on her because she started later? What if her intelligence was lower than the average? She rubbed the bridge of her nose, a familiar headache returning. And then she heard it.

"Anzu? Come in here please." He said, his voice the typical dull tone. Anzu gulped, a shiver sent through her. She clenched her fists until they turned white and walked into the room. She kept her eyes on Aizawa. She didn't dare look at the eyes she knew were all resting on her. It was dead silent. When she turned around, she saw them all. Each and every one of them. All of their eyes, rested on one thing. She could almost picture her heart thrashing against her rib cage. She could tell almost immediately who was friendly, and who was not.

"This is our new transfer student Anzu. She'll be training with all of you in the hero course from now on. Make sure she feels welcomed." He said, his voice slightly threatening at the end. He motioned for her to take a seat. She went directly to the seat the farthest back in the room, keeping her head low all the way there. She had already attracted enough attention. To her dismay, the eyes followed her there too. She wanted desperately to escape this place. To melt into the floor and go sit in the grass. Her stream of thoughts was stopped short when she noticed several smiles. One coming from a boy with bright, spiky red hair. It almost obviously wasn't natural but she had no way of knowing that. She the saw another with curly green hair and freckles. Then another from a girl who's skin color was pink. She stopped short. Repeated the thoughts. Everyone here looks... so different. She stared so hard at her desk she could've sworn she burned a hole right through it. She was barely focused as she listened to Aizawa ramble on about the day's events. First period this, second that, none of it worried her. But quirk training? She was shot back to reality. How the hell was she supposed to do that? Sure she could increase her physical strength as much as possible, but either was... her quirk was... uncontrollable. She refused to use it on a person. Maybe she could on a villain, but an innocent person? No way.

"You'll train with your normal partners... Except Anzu. You'll be getting a private lesson with me so I can evaluate your quirk." He said turning to the next set of directions. She froze. Evaluate? What does that mean? Anxiety overtook her. This was crazy. Her thoughts, once again were interrupted by the bell. First period just ended and she already felt winded.

The whole day seemed to go in fast forward. First she was in average courses like calculus and anatomy, next minute shes learning how to defend against a gun attack. What kind of crazy school is this? She knew what she signed up for but it didn't make it any less insane. Then something she feared almost more than the hero classes. Lunch. The food she got looked incredible. She had never seen a meal so vibrant. The smell wafting from it made her mouth water. But here came the hard part. Where to enjoy it? She was barely one step out of the hall when someone had grabbed her wrist. It was the redheaded boy from before.

"Hey! Anzu why don't you come sit with us!? We rarely have new students." He said, a smile taking up almost his entire face. She was about to answer but was cut short as someone rested their hand on her shoulder. An incredibly tall guy with glasses stood next to her. She identified him as the class representative.

"Or you could always come sit this us! We have plenty of space and we'd love to hear about your quirk!" He motioned to the green haired boy as well as a couple others. She was torn. Both groups seemed nice enough. She was already surprised they could just walk up to someone like that. But overall, she would rather not talk about her quirk to anyone.

"Ahh... sorry I think he asked me first. But I mean, I could sit with your group tomorrow if you want?" She asked sounding like her mouth was falling down the stairs. She had no idea how to talk to people. She had never even been around this many people. The overwhelming crowd had her mind in a fog. She was already halfway through the day, yet she already felt she could sleep for four days. She wasn't used to using this much energy. The boy with glasses nodded with approval,

"Alright then we'll see you tomorrow at lunch!" He said stepping back to his group. She barely had time to wave before the red head was dragging her off somewhere towards his table.

She was shocked at the people in the group. They all looked ridiculously different. Most looked friendly. Save for one. One of them had his jaw stuck out and was moving his food around distastefully. Odd, She thought to herself. The redheaded boy began spouting off the names of all of the people. She remembered absolutely none of them, but played along anyway.

"So! I'm Kirishima, but my friends call me Kiri, It's up to you really. The one with the blonde hair with the lightning bolt going through it is Kaminari, he's not the brightest." She heard him yell back an angry retort, but Kiri had already moved on. "The one with the tape elbows is Sero, and the one with the pink skin is Mina. And last but certainly not least... there's Bakugou." The boy with the previously sour attitude didn't bother to look up. "The only advice I have for you about him is... Don't make him mad. But once you get to know him, hes actually pretty nice." He said smiling nervously.

"Fuck off shitty hair" Bakugou spat glaring up at him. Interesting friend combo, She thought. She placed down her tray and eyed what the others were doing.

"So what school do you come from?" The one named Mina asked. Anzu practically turned to stone. How would she even... What would she even.

"Uh... It's a place... named." She looked around the room, desperately trying to find an item to name her pretend education after. Tree academy, table academy, food academy, nothing. And then she saw it. the autumn trees.

"I went to a place in... the U.S.A named... Autumn Academia." She said smiling as convincingly as she could. They all went silent for a moment. She tensed up. What if they knew? Did they figure her out that easily? What would become of her? She really did it now.

"Dude! I heard of that place! That's where all the elite up and coming heroes go! How could you leave such a prestigious school!?" Kiri asked, his eyes giant. Anzu's jaw nearly dropped. How deep is this lie going to go? She wondered fretting with every word.

"Oh... my parents" She winced at the word " Thought it would be good for me to get some out of the country experience." Anzu said with a fake smile. What were the chances that Autumn Academia would actually exist? Some luck. From there, she mostly coasted by listening to the other's conversations and small talk. To her surprise everyone seemed friendly, except the spiky haired blonde in the back. She wondered why they hung out with him if he was so angry all the time. She caught him staring once, the intensity in his eyes made her entire back tense.

Before it started, lunch was over. And now it was time for the so called 'Quirk Evaluation'. What was he going to do? What if she didn't do anything right or messed up or, ugh so many things could go so easily wrong. Anzu fought the urge to simply run and hide. She just wanted to sink into the comfort of some bed covers and shut her mind off for a while. These people... especially the friendly ones, were exhausting.

She watched in awe as the girls changed into their hero costumes. There were so many bright colors and patterns. She suddenly realized how badly she wanted one. They were all so personalized and special. Then she thought of what hers would look like. Dull. Black and white probably. She frowned. Well that's depressing. Aizawa called from outside of the locker room, she almost jumped out of her skin. She couldn't think of anything she wanted to do less. She had never used her quirk per-say, she knew what it did but that was about it. She knew it was dangerous. When she stepped outside, the sunlight pouring on her face gave her a bit of confidence. It was so pretty and cool out. The air even smelled sweet. Aizawa arranged his class into pairs and began the exercise. When he was finally done with that he turned back to her.

"We'll be training inside." He said beckoning her over. As she followed into a giant building with an obstacle coarse, she suddenly hoped her physical abilities weren't as terrible as she thought they would be.

"Take off your bandage." He said motioning to her left eye. The words froze her like ice. Freezing her in place, not allowing her to do anything. "What's wrong?" He asked, patience growing thin. If she was going to use her Quirk and become a hero, she had to learn to be comfortable with this. Confidence is key.

"Nothing." She said her tone dying down into a mumble. She removed the bandage but kept her eye thoroughly sealed shut.

"So I've been made aware that your quirk only works on living creatures?" He questioned.

"I know just about as much as you. All I know is that when it starts it doesn't stop until..." She let her words trail off.

"Lucky for you I can stop a quirk from functioning temporarily. So As far as I know your quirk short circuits nerves?" He asked, unraveling his scarf.

"Yes... basically it just shuts them off and the recipient looses all feeling and control over those body parts, unfortunately I don't have enough control to stop it before it reaches the brain or heart."

"But you think you might be able to channel it in specific locations?" He asked, staring at her intensely.

"Yes I believe so, but I also know that when I do it, It effects me negatively as well." She said biting her lip nervously.

"You're willing to try it out?" Aizawa asked taking a fighting stance.

"As long as you remove it as quickly as possible." She said, at this point she was almost shaking. She was terrified. What if he couldn't shut it off in time? What if he wound up like everyone else? Panic started to seize her. So many questions. She distantly heard him say ready. As if it was blocked out by her mind, barely reaching her by an echo. Go. She opened her left eye. She could barely see through it. Like a black lens was over her vision. She tried focusing on a specific point but the second she looked, a splitting headache shot out of her eye socket. Her entire body was seized with a dull ache and it seemed to last forever even thought it lasted only seconds. It was gone as quick as it came. Just like he said he removed her quirk before it did any permanent damage. . She sealed her eye shut almost like it had suction. A vault like in the fairy tales that always brought destruction. The feeling she just had... It was terrible. It felt like her whole body was being temporarily ripped apart. Like her own nerves were being pinched. With every breath her lungs ached and her eye throbbed. Aizawa was panting, and to her absolute horror fell backwards. Everything stopped. Everything hurt. She ran to him fear gripping her with iron clad claws. No No Not again. I promised myself. I promised. Why the hell did I do this. Shit. Why?

"Are you okay!?" She asked her voice frail. To her relief he managed a nod. What was wrong with him? "Can you speak?" She asked everything in her body going cold. What if she shut off his ability to speak? Or see? Or both!? No. Getting worked up would help no one. She just had to keep a level head. "I'm going to go get help. Stay here don't move." She said hopping up immediately. She was shocked by the confidence in her own voice. Was it even her speaking?

"Wait." The words were squeaked out hoarsely. He didn't seem to be in a lot of pain. It just looked like his body wouldn't obey him. Then, slowly, second by second she watched as he regained strength in his finger tips, then his arms, his legs and finally everything else. Anzu could never put into words the amount of relief that flooded over her. She swore she could've died happy then and there.

"That... Is an incredibly powerful quirk." Aizawa grumbled cracking his knuckles. "Also incredibly dangerous." He said rubbing his wrists.

"I hope I didn't cause you a lot of pain." She said ignoring the drowning feeling of aches and pains all over her body.

"I didn't feel any pain... I didn't feel anything. I was barely conscious." He said sounding almost dumbfounded. She didn't know if that was something to be proud of, or something to fear. "If you could channel that, who knows... What about you? Do you feel any side effects?" He asked finally looking up at her. "Hold on, your left eye is bleeding." He said shakily rising to his feet. Anzu reached up and let him balance on her shoulder.

"I'll worry about that later. Let's get you to the nurse." She said beginning to walk out of the door. She noticed him give a small smirk.

"What?" She asked. She never thought it possible to see someone with his demeanor smirk. It was actually pretty nice.

"I was just thinking that's something a hero would say. I think if we can figure this out, you'll do just fine." He said contently. She couldn't help but smile at his words. Maybe. Just Maybe. An animal could fit in among animals. As long as she's trained who knows. She might even become the top of the bunch. She shook her head at the thought. That was just crazy.

The End Of The Day: Anzu packed up her new books. She had never been this exhausted in the entirety of her life. But where to go now? It wasn't like she had a place to stay. She knew they had dorms here... but she heard they were completely filled. As everyone got up to leave, Anzu made her way to the front of the classroom.

"So what am I supposed to do now?" She asked embarrassment and guilt creeping into her thoughts. Aizawa thought for a moment, then called his name.

"Bakugou come here." Oh no. No. NO. Not him. It's clear he didn't like her! He sauntered his way over, he gave her a long, passing glance. Like he was judging her for something.

"What do you want?" He asked flatly. His stance, attitude, everything about him just seemed... she couldn't find the right word. Over confident?

"After the attack from the league of villains you were given the biggest dorm because you were the only one that wasn't evolved in your rescue." She was watching him out of the corner of her eye. Upon mentioning that something in his stance changed. It was a split second. But clearly that was a sore subject. "What I'm getting at here is that your one of the top students with the biggest dorm. Until we can have Anzu's dorm built she'll need to room with someone. I would ask your permission but you honestly don't have a say in the matter. She also needs someone to catch her up on the lessons she missed, for that you can get extra credit." Aizawa said. He stared blankly, not at all fazed by the suddenly fuming boy that stood before him. She worried he would pop a blood vessel he was breathing so angrily. He quickly regained his composure, yet his words were still laced in frustration.

"No way in hell." He said. Aizawa didn't even look up from what he was doing.

"Like I said, you don't have a say in the matter. It's only temporary. You don't even have to stay in the same room. You're dismissed." Aizawa ordered, growing bored with the conversation.

"Bu-" He didn't get the chance to finish.

"You will do this. And you will do it willingly. You're dismissed." He said the last part a little sharper. Bakugou, now hunched over looked like he was about to blow a hole in the roof. She followed him at least twelve paces away as he stomped out of the door. This was going to be a long three weeks.

Hey! So this chapter actually ended up being longer than I anticipated. Oops XD. but I hope you did enjoy. I would've liked to put more detail on the quirk evaluation but It was a difficult scene to write and I felt the chapter was already dragging on too long so unfortunately it turned out this way. I hope you enjoyed despite the fact and I really appreciate those that leave feedback. It helps me improve the story and adjust it for you guys to enjoy more. Thanks for reading and stay tuned :)
