Chapter 8

He sprinted past the crowds while catching glimpses of some shops which were the same even after three years.

But he had no time to look at them, instead, he made a mental note that he would visit as soon as he could.

Akio could finally see the gates to the center. It was fairly normal, as the school gates. He went past the gates and saw a board which said, 『Admission Counter』, with a left arrow.

He made his to the left and came across a big circular cut in the wall, which was made of glass. In the middle was a small hole, just big enough for a hand to pass through. Above the cut, was a blue board, which said, 『Admissions Taken Here』. Although it was glass, somehow everything beyond the glass was black.

『Must be magic.』

Akio, as he said that, walked up to the counter and knocked once.

『Hello.....?』

For a moment, there was total silence. Then suddenly, a girlish boy voice boomed from behind the counter.

『Hello, this is the admission counter for Flogreen Prep Center. Are you here for this purpose?』

『Yes, please.』

『Your name?』

『Akio.』

『Any guardians?』

『No.』

『Your level of education?』

『Till the first year of high school.』

『Pass your dropout certificate through the hole.』

Akio took out his certificate from his back pocket and passed it through the hole. To his surprise, it got sucked in instantly like it was being pulled by a vacuum cleaner.

『Reason?』

Akio was stunned. Were these questions even allowed to be asked?

『Family circumstances.』

That was the best he could come up with. He didn't want to mention that he was disowned by his own family. Moreover, he didn't want to even remember them. It was difficult for him to even take their name.

『Your affinity?』

When he heard that, Akio's face became dark. He thought:

『Will this work?』

Akio took a deep breath to calm himself down.

『Fire, B.』

Akio had trouble lying there. He had only formulated this in theory. He wasn't sure if his mana would come up as fire as he had said.

『Please put your hand on the glass for a check.』

He was nervous. If his theory was wrong, he could be banned from entering any institution ever again. Showing his magic to be fire was one thing. It was easy for Akio to do that. In fact, he could produce magic of any attribute if he wished to. But showing his mana to be fire was another thing. He could not have tested it out in the rift.

For showing his magic to be any attribute, his theory was simple and tested. Normally, in addition to the mana inside our bodies, higher-ranked magicians absorb the mana from their surroundings to get a bigger mana pool. While absorbing the mana outside, the mana code present in the mana block, automatically converts itself to the user's unilateral code and hence, allows them to use that mana. While this method can be used to have a bigger mana pool, it cannot be maintained for a long time as the body's capability to convert the mana code becomes unbelievably low only after using it a few times. Excessive use can result in a permanent disability of use in magic. This technique is called, Mana Reversing.

However, this method is also a way of murder. What the murderers do is that they force-inject the mana into a body without giving the body a chance to convert the mana code. This results in the collision of the two different mana bodies present in the person's body. This results in the inflation on the original mana present in body which can clog all the mana veins in the body resulting in mana deficiency and ultimately, death. While this is an effect, this is a rather lucky case. There is another way in which force-injecting can harm the body. It reduces the whole body to pure mana without leaving a single trace.

What Akio thought was, what if he modified the mana as it is in the air and created an attribute. To test this, he manipulated the space to put together the mana code in such a way, that it creates the desired attribute. And this was a success.

He thought the same thing would work on mana. But he never had any way to test this. Since he could not make a detector as it is something which only the government knows and is not revealed on the internet.

As Akio raised his hand, his head was full of doubts. As a result, his heartbeat spiked exponentially and he started gasping without him even knowing.
