1 Chapter 1: Coming to the New World

"Die, you evil demon of no good deed! Let the flames of truth burn your sinful body and then turn it into ashes!" A man was being tied to a cross, and his body was burning in the flames.

Is this flame the fire of truth? No wonder it can burn his modified body.

Jack, with his gray pupils, coldly watched the woman standing at the forefront. Oh, without a doubt, that was a priest, and a cardinal at that—was he lucky, or what?

Perhaps, being burned alive by a cardinal was a badge of honor for a heretic, or more accurately said, for a necromancer beyond redemption!

By Satan above, Jack was now extremely delighted. Although his hands were nailed to the stakes by that detestable paladin—no, a Grand Knight. They sealed his magic with the divine power gifted by God.

And the cardinal, this shy-girl-like figure, was truly a tough character.

At least now, Jack was completely unable to summon the undead, all thanks to her.

"Burn him!"

"Burn the demon!"

"Child, close your eyes. Do not look. But your father in heaven would surely be moved that this demon, he's finally going to die!"

A crowd of ordinary people who loved excitement too much to mind their own business, gathered around, wanting to witness the tragic downfall of Jack, the "ruler" of the city!

Jack glanced at the lady covering her son's eyes and said with a sneer, "Isn't that Freya? Have you forgotten your husband has been turned into a zombie by me? Your memory, oh dear, don't glare at me with such vehemence!"

While Jack still felt leisure to mock these civilians who hated him to the bone, the cardinal finally found a terrifying divine magic from her teachings.

"The Majesty of the Heavenly Father!"

The power of divine magic came from faith; a beam of light emerged from the teachings, falling upon Jack.

After a bright flash on the cross, nothing remained but an empty, fluttering black cloak.

"Dead?"

"He's dead! Haha! The demon is finally dead! He surely will descend into hell and suffer without end!"

Freya, who had just been mocked, stamped her foot and said, feeling relieved enough to sleep peacefully at last.

The cardinal, still with a sense of lingering fear, caressed the doctrine in her hand and departed.

Perhaps, the city of Karter would soon welcome a new lord, maybe even a great follower of the Church!

"As a noble, I must remind you, Jack! Can you not daydream when I am speaking?" Duke Ludwig said with a stern face. He had run out of patience for his only son.

But Jack would never admit that this man, currently regarded as his father, was as elegant in his anger as the priests he most loathed.

When Jack woke up, yes, he was surprised at his own awakening, given that he had faced, a divine spell!

No incompetent priest knew divine magic, which is why Jack could create a stir in Karter City for decades, and just as he was about to turn it into a city of the undead, the cardinal set her sights on him.

Damn luck!

He was meant to be dead, to be eradicated, unable to even reach hell.

Yet he lived on.

"Thanks be to Satan." That was the first sentence Jack said after waking up, and of course, he was reprimanded by the butler of the Ludwig family.

"Young master, what is Satan? You should be thankful to Merlin!" The butler found quite bothersome this supposed heir of the Ludwig family, who still showed no magical flare, nor did he learn noble etiquette.

After more than a month of feigning craziness and stupidity—a skill Jack was particularly good at. He excelled at all sorts of depravity.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have made it onto some church's hit list, and certainly not by speaking incoherent magic.

Even Jack's best necromantic spells were only at level four. (Levels one to four are low level; five to eight are middle level; nine is high level.)

Apart from summoning skeletons and zombies, he could barely summon a few ghosts.

Back to our earlier dinner table.

The noble and elegant Lady Ludwig, Daphne Ludwig, glanced at her son who had been scolded to a pale face by her husband (actually, Jack had always been so pale) and said unhappily, "Dear, do not shout so, he is only 11 years old, you'll frighten him!"

And Duke, of course, wouldn't let Jack off the hook for that reason. To be honest, Jack felt his mother was far too indulgent.

"Nini (Daphne's baptismal name), if you hadn't reminded me, I might have completely forgotten that this son, who is likely a dud, is already 11 years old! I said before, we should have another child! Dammit, the Ludwig heir being a dud, how could we stand in the magic families of Germany!"

Daphne was not to be outdone. She even took out her phoenix tail feather, cherry wood wand, and cast a silencing spell. It was not noble for the servants to hear their masters quarrel.

"By Merlin's beard, dear, I think you might have forgotten that we've long since moved from Germany to England. Although the food here remains hard to digest."

Jack watched with amusement as his new parents argued.

Yes, he had come to a new world, one that appeared even more civilized to him. Of course, all Jack said was limited to the common people, for if magic were mentioned, he had to bluntly say, this place was regressing.

A magical world where lethal spells could be counted on one's fingers! Oh well, Jack thought this might be an opportunity.

As for the dud his father mentioned, that was not a big deal, was it?

Jack stealthily pointed his finger at the water cup in front of him and muttered a simple spell—the cup immediately shattered!

"Who is smashing cups? Is this, did you do this?" Duke shouted, and of course, he simply raised his voice (perhaps employing an amplification spell), still maintaining proper deportment.

And Jack, being asked, could only pretend to be shy, bow his head, and then nod slightly.

The next moment, his beautiful young mother held Jack in her embrace.

"Child, I knew you had it in you, thank Merlin, you'll be an excellent wizard," Daphne said excitedly.

She would never know that this was the first time Jack embraced a woman, the softness of her body and the faint scent of perfume making him flush with warmth.

"Mother, that, I think father has something to say to me." Jack had to escape his mother's embrace since he was now 12 years old.

Indeed, Mr. Ludwig's serious face finally showed a smile that was nearly invisible to others.

"Given that, I shall give you the letter received this morning."

Duke tapped the table with his black wand, an envelope bearing the Hogwarts emblem (patterns of a lion, snake, eagle, and badger) flew in front of Jack.

A clever summoning charm.

Jack had to admit, this world kept most of the original spells, and substantial improvements were seen in the non-offensive charms.

Taking the envelope, Jack pretended to tear it open excitedly.
