After taking Jiraiya and Hiruzen to the hospital for the abnormal amount of blood they had lost, the welcome home party continued, with Tsunade, Mito and Biwako making me promise not to use that summon ever again, unless it was absolutely necessary. A bit of an overreaction if you ask me, but it is what it is, besides I don't really use my Succubi in battle, my other demons have better battle use in this world.

After the party ended. I walked home with Tsunade, talking about our fake engagement and things around that subject, until eventually we arrived at the Senju district, a lone deserted place once full of life. With a smile, I bid my goodbyes and walked home, to find Orochimaru standing in front of my house with a rather conflicted look on his face.

"Raiden," Orochimaru greeted, his tone distant more so than ever.

"Any reason why you are staring at my house?" I asked, inwardly reminding myself that in the future he would become a monster for the sake of power and knowledge.

"How do you do it?" Orochimaru eventually asked, breaking the silence.

"Do what?" I asked.

"Break the barriers this world has set on us," Orochimaru said, "At every turn you prove things that we thought impossible, are possible indeed… and yet, no one but you does it… and the reason why you are different alludes me,"

"No answer I give you will satisfy you," I replied.

Orochimaru chuckled, "I thought as much, thanks for your time," with that said, orochimaru walked past me without saying a word.

And as he walked past me, a dark thought formed within my very self. What if I killed him? What if I killed him before he became a monster? And if I did… would that truly be justice? After all, what is to say this world is the same I saw on TV.

For now I would wait and see… killing him just for the sake of avoiding such fate was a hasty decision at best , for all I knew, my very being in this universe could have very well created a butterfly effect… changing the very course of history as I know it, and if the future I knew remained the same… then I would kill him, after all, the pseudo immortality he will soo proudly acquire in the future means nothing to me.

The next morning, I woke up to be summoned by the Hokage, who wanted to talk with me about something. That something was the founding of a new force within the left, the root.

Apparently, Hiruzen wanted me to be part of it, at least for a while, an offer which I strongly refused. Working for Danzo was a hard no, the guy wasn't bad… but his complex of god was too much for me to handle.

Hiruzen was obviously not exactly happy with my decision, but I quickly reminded him, I had the right to refuse transfers, a right that was there thanks to the First Hokage.

"I thought you and Danzo were friends," Hiruzen sighed, finally accepting my choice.

"Friends is a strong word, I would see we are acquaintances, and I am risking it," I replied, just when did he assume I was friends with his self proclaimed rival.

"The root could really use your guidance," Hiruzen said and I sighed.

"Hiruzen, I won't join… I don't like the Anbu, and I sure as hell won't like the darker or edgier version of it," I sighed.

"Fair enough," Hiruzen sighed, finally relenting from his stupid STUPID idea.

"I also won't be going back to active duty any time soon," I stated, "I spent six years servicing the feudal lord, and I need some time off."

Koharu who had entered the room just there growled, "A shinobi must always be ready to do as he is told,"

"Easy for you to say, all you do is sit on your ass and tell others what to do," I shot back, walking out of the office, not wanting to hear her replies.

[Koharu POV]

I didn't like Raiden, he was arrogant and overconfident, and didn't respect my authority as one of the council members, and if I had it my way, I would have his head under the ground. But somehow, the brat I didn't like, had the support of not only Hiruzen but Danzo, two polar opposites supporting him, the two most influential shinobi of the leaf support him, and not only that, but he had managed to befriend the Feudal lord, making him virtually untouchable.

I still remember the day Danzo came to us a few years ago.

[Talk with Danzo Flashback]

As I waited for the reports of how the situation we had put Raiden in was working out, Homura entered the room, his face broken in wounds. Worried, I rushed to him, only to find Danzo standing right behind him. Before I could question what happened, Danzo kicked me in the face, breaking my nose, as he chastised us, "You really thought I was going to allow such a thing to happen?"

Holding my nose in pain, I raged, "What is the meaning of this Danzo!"

"Raiden is a resource the village can't afford to lose," Danzo cursed loud enough for me to hear, "His unique set of skills make him ever more valuable, important and reliable that the tailed beasts, and yet you two idiots decided to alienate him… shun him from the village…"

"He is a brat, and the reason Tobirama is dead!" I snapped, just to find a Kunai lodged in my stomach, the pain shutting me up.

"He is irreplaceable, at least until we confirm whether or not his abilities are inherentlable, but you two are not," Danzo growled, "If you two ever cross Raiden again, I will ensure a tragic accident during a mission, so behave… or I will put you two in a permanent time out," he threatened his eyes promising every word he had just said.

[Back to present]

The dark with Danzo and the light with Hiruzen, and the in between with the Feudal Lord, he has political protection from every single angle, from an orphan to the most precious possession of the Leaf, how life makes turns.
