23 Chapter 23 : Fighting Zabuza Momochi

Shikamaru soared through the sky, knowing fully well that when Asuma caught up to him, a punishment was waiting for him. Sigh.

'NUE,' was really quite fast when he had to. Covering the last 60 or so kilometers was done under just 15 minutes. 

But just reaching the land of waves is not enough, he also has to find where is team 7 currently. The bird eye view though was working pretty well for him.

Soon he found the place and it was not looking good.

Sakura, Naruto and Sasuke were frozen by just one release of Zabuza's killing intent. It was scary to even breathe at this time.

"Hey don't worry, I will not let any of my teammates die," Kakashi looked behind and with a smile looked at Sasuke. Noting that Sasuke took out a kunai under the pressure of Zabuza's killing intent and was about to take his own life, Kakashi had to intervene. 

This slightly eased all the young genin's mind while the first real fight of the anime took place. Kakashi vs Zabuza.

Both rush at each other with a giant sword and a small kunai in their hands. Surprisingly Kakashi was holding his own against Zabuza with just a kunai.

Both went at it for some time before getting bored by the constant back and forth and decided to raise the stakes.

Jutsu started to fly, and clones appear every damn time someone was getting stabbed just for the person to appear all fine just a second later.

But then Zabuza pulled a fast one and Kakashi found himself in water. And that was exactly when Shikamaru found them.

"This gotta be the worst and the best timing for me to come here, in one way that I have to now help, and on the other way I will get a good fighting chance and gain experience and if this is not absolutely gonna go like cannon then I will save their asses here," Shikamaru mutters to himself as he already has a plan in his mind and jumps down from Nue, falls right at the water body, good thing that there was water down there.

Zabuza after catching Kakashi started to smack talk to the other three, he was acting like one of those uncle who bullied little kids.

While he was talking though, his eyes suddenly caught a shadow. He instantly looked up, only to see a giant bird flying over him, but what he didn't catch was a kid the same age as Haku falling directly towards him. Maybe because Shikamaru chose the right position to fall as the sunlight was covering him.

But still being an experienced Jonin, Zabuza reacted within seconds as Shikamaru became visible.

"Fire Style, Phoenix fireballs," Shikamaru muttered to himself while still in the air and threw multiple fireballs at Zabuza, one single fireball might be blocked by him but when multiple smaller ones are coming at him in various directions, he can't. Especially while one of his hands is occupied as he captures Kakashi.

Kakashi also noticed Shikamaru's presence at this time, he wasn't expecting any help to come this fast but if there was a good time then this was it. He was just about to order his team to run away. But the problem was that he didn't sense anyone else, only Shikamaru.

Shikamaru clearly had a plan, Zabuza seeing the fire coming, finding no other way to dodge the attack, has to let go of the place where he was holding back Kakashi and jump back. Shikamaru knew that the attack would never connect, seriously since when in Naruto the fire attack actually started to hit the enemy.

No, that fire was to move Zabuza and release Kakashi from his place. Shikamaru then dives down in the water. 

Zabuza before he could go after Shikamaru, had to once again jump back as he saw a lightning-style jutsu coming at him, at first he thought it was Kakashi but that wasn't the case, it was NUE.

Nue can create lightning bolts and even attack with his winds, what is he exactly, a Pokemon?

Anyways multiple lightning bolts came at him and he had no way to stop them and thus had to dodge all of them. Before he changes his target to the flying giant bird. Shikamaru suddenly emerges out of the water with Asuma style chakra blade in his hands.

Although he didn't have wind-style chakra to sharpen these blades he had fire-style chakra and even was learning from Asuma how to use them for the last 3 months. Again nothing close to a Jonin but still he can handle Zabuza for some time.

Zabuza also acted in time and his sword and Shikamaru's bright red chakra blades connected. 

"Shikamaru took a very Asuma-like close combat fighting stand and launched towards Zabuza. But again without the element of surprise, Shikamaru was not a match for Zabuza. Seeing the giant sword coming at him, he blocked on time but the power gap was so much that he was thrown back.

Zabuza didn't stop there though as he instantly closed the distance between himself and the genin who attacked him.

He was almost like a blur but just before he was attacked suddenly Shikamaru's shadow extended and from there came out a giant grey wolf, even bigger than the giant bird with a human face and jumped at the stunned Zabuza.

He had to stop himself and defend himself with his sword but even for someone like him, the Grey Warewolf was much too strong as he was sent back much like what he did to Shikamaru a second ago.

Too bad that the werewolf can't walk on water and thus Shikamaru had to release him immediately after Zabuza was thrown back.

Shikamaru knew that this was the time to run at Zabuza with his chakra blades in his hands. Zabuza quickly swung his giant sword and this time the attack connected as it clearly hit Zabuza. 

Earning him a puff of smoke the real Shikamaru immediately sprang out of his clone's shadow and launched another sneak attack at Zabuza. And it even connected, but to his irritation, it was a water clone.

But that's fine, because the next one was not gonna be a clone, he didn't even wait after seeing water and swat down as a giant long swing just missed his head, as Zabuza appeared behind him.

And this was the time when his shadow extended and grabbed onto the real Zabuza. Gritting his teeth, he knew that it would be hard to hold back a Jonin who actively trying to break out of his shadow possession but he already had a backup.

Zabuza noticed that his movement was restricted and instantly started to resist.

Shikamaru feeling the pressure immediately shouted.

"Gama," 

And this was when his already planted toads inside the water surface resurface and grabbed their tongue around Zabuza. With that said, Zabuza found himself warped with 14 tongues further restricting his movements.

"Let go of me brat," He shouted. From the start of Shikamaru's attack to capture him, this man didn't open his mouth, actually, Shikamaru didn't give him any time, everything happened in just under 1 minute or less.

But it worked,

"No thanks," Shika reply cheekily.

"Good, but how long you can hold me down, I know that you can't move at this time either right," Zabuza replied but his smirk did appear as he heard something.

Electricity.

It was Kakashi. "Don't worry, he won't have to hold you down for long," Kakashi said.

Kakashi was about to use his jutsu on Zabuza but at this time. Senbon hit Zabuza making him unconscious.

Shikamaru seeing this just had a small smirk on his face. His plan was still going just fine.

I hope that I potrayed this fight well, just to clearify, right now Shikamaru is not a opponent of Zabuza but he had the element of surprised, information on Zabuza and his border line cheat like techniques and only that why he was able to fight with him.
