19 Chapter 19 - Transferred and End of the War

Half a year passes by in a flash for Kagami and Mira since returning from their mission in Rolan. Which while a shame as they have yet to return to Konoha, and roughed it as they healed. Since they were sent to patrol fairly often and while they had a few conflicts here and there. Thanks to their rapidly increasing wealth of experiences, they managed to get by fairly well.

Also thanks to their dedication and efforts, both Kagami and Mira found themselves rising to Chunin rank. A feat, similar to Kakashi who too upon graduating rose to this rank within a year. However, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows as Kagami received a letter a month or two back from Minato stating his disciple Obito died.

So sitting inside his tent, Kagami was sorting through some information in his head to increase his understanding of chakra or more specifically, sorting through various lines of codes. Since he was studying the lines of what defines what jutsu nature is when casted. While also thinking about how to go about merging the chakra natures to create an elemental kekkei genkai.

He was only broken out of his thoughts when the tent door was moved and Mira walked in. A slight depressed look appeared in her eye, or that's what Kagami assumed. It was not like he could read anything in her eyes, but her entire body emitted such a feeling.

"It's not good news?" Kagami asked first.

Shaking her head, Mira sat on the bed across from him. "Since Sunagakure seems to be done with this war. Most of the troops stationed here are returning to the village to rest before heading to the next battlefield, while an unlucky few on the other hand are tasked with heading there right away."

"We were among the unlucky ones weren't we?" Kagami sighed.

"Mmm, we are heading to the Kiri front." Mira said.

"Why there?" Kagami frowned.

Kiri was similar to Suna and while they had attacks here and there, but were withdrawing from the war. From the last news Kagami received only Kumo and Iwa were the only villages left in this war. Which was shifting from Konoha to each other as the friction between the two were hitting a high point.

"Clearly the Hokage wants us to play in the sand, sunbathe and play in the ocean." Mira bonked him on the head. "It seems that something big is on the horizon there so the Hokage wants more troops there."

Rolling his eyes, Kagami chose not to reply to that statement. He sort of figured that when she told him they were heading there. It just didn't make sense to send two eight year olds even if they were chunins, unless it was to make up numbers.

'It's not going to be another siege is it?' Kagami thought.

The wounds from the last time slightly ached at the mere thought. Both him and Mira still wore the scars from it on their bodies.

"When are we leaving?" Kagami asked.

"Now apparently."

--

After nearly a week of traveling, underneath a dark and cloudy sky. Kagami and Mira reached the Kiri campsite. The on and off rain made the trip take longer then needed due to paths and roads washing away.

"It's depressing here." Mira sighed as fog could be seen over the sea.

"It can't be helped." Kagami replied with his hands behind his head.

While on the road, the situation changed as Kiri went from withdrawing to full blast. Hence from what was an ending became a stalemate once more. A nonsensical thing, which stunned many who received the news.

"Shame that the environment will lessen our fire release." Mira sighed.

"That's why you should practice hard to master all the basic elements." Kagami smiled.

"I've got the basics, but fire is what I'm best at." Mira grumbled softly.

After a bit of getting comfortable in their new camp and reporting for duty. Kagami and Mira gathered all the information they could about Kiri and their recent tactics. From the squad sizes, kekkei genkais among them and common areas they appear.

--

Time flew by since the two found themselves transferred. Over the next few weeks they got situated and sent out to patrol. Kagami sighed as besides a few average Kiri chunin, not much happened. It was almost like the last push was Kiri's last breath and now Kiri pulled out of the war for real this time.

So now Kagami and Mira were grabbing lunch after their morning training. They noticed that the camp was in high morale. Which isn't shocking as a smile formed on Kagami and Mira lips once they learned why.

'The war is finished.' Kagami smiled as this means he will be returning to the village soon.

Finally after nearly a year away and more time freed up. Kagami could begin putting multiple ideas he had over time into actions. Not to mention he will be able to see his grandfather again.

"Minato is impressive, wiping out a thousand Iwa shinobi by himself." Mira said as she looked over the newspaper. "He is much better at the Flying Thunder God Technique than you are."

"Yes, but he isn't rebuilding it from scratch." Kagami answered.

Mira just rolled her eyes at him, but didn't dive into it. She refused to feed his ego, which made Kagami feel a bit down. Drawing invisible circles on the table, he felt a slightly strong wind blow him out of his chair.

"Don't use wind jutsu to blast some out of their chair." Kagami huffed and picked himself up.

"Then don't use water chakra to form a rain cloud above your head." Mira huffed back.

Bickering back and forth as traded listless and non insulting insults. Which ended in a challenge of rock, paper, scissors, that left Kagami listless as he lost. A fact that Mira held over him for the next week.

However, it wasn't until nearly two months later did the order come down that would allow Kagami and Mira to finally return to Konoha.
