7 A New Mission

After the spar ended and we got treatment to what minor injuries or scratches we got. Captain asked for me in his personal quarters saying he wants to discuss something important.

I already knew it was about the new jutsu but I still went there planning to act oblivious to how important it actually was.

Inside his quarters, Captain greeted me and then asked being genuinely curious.

"Shirou what was the Jutsu you used against Shisui today, I have never seen that one before." He went straight to the point without holding back anything.

"It's called Byakurai or Pale Lightning. It is a lightning style ninjutsu which can be used for long range attacks as well."

"How did you obtain this jutsu."

A valid question. It isn't uncommon to obtain new jutsus from the slain enemies. Hidden Leaf has obtained many jutsus from other villages and other villages have obtained many jutsus from Hidden Leaf as well.

Any Jutsu obtained from a slain enemy is to be reported to the village and to be registered in the records. Only the one who found it is free to learn the jutsu but they have to report it shortly after. Therefore, the current interrogation actually makes a lot of sense.

But...

"I created it."

"You are the one who came up with this jutsu?" he asked with his eyebrows raised.

"Yes" I replied firmly

He frowned. Probably because he didn't believe me. And I can't blame him on that since an 8 year old creating a <C> rank jutsu is extremely rare. Not to mention that there are now two of them from the same clan who have achieved this feat.

[A/N: Kakashi also created Chidori at the age of eight]

[A/N: I am assuming that the the initial phase of chidori was <C> rank, Since we all know that Chidori is an <A> rank jutsu. Chidori was incomplete even during the third great ninja war. So this purely my assumption that he started developing it at 8 and it was a <C> rank then.]

[A/N: Chidori was never officially recorded in Konoha but again I am assuming that a few high ranking people knew about it's development]

After thinking about it a little, he asked

"Will you be willing to give your jutsu to the Hidden Leaf?" Although he asked me this, I know that if I reject him he will be mad and so will the Higher ups of Konoha.

But even then I am not going to register this jutsu in the village records. The thing is that unlike what was shown in the anime, there are many people in Konoha who possess lightning chakra nature. However, Konoha only possess few <E> to <D> rank jutsus. The rest are with the big clans like the Uchihas, Hyugas, Sarutobi and also the small clan like Hatake which possesses the highest number of Lightning nature jutsus, more than all of them combined.

"No. This jutsu is my original one, I will keep it to myself." I said

His frown deepened and after staring at me for a few minutes in the dead silence which made me very uncomfortable.

He sighed and just said "Alright, if that's what you wish. I just had to ask you this because I am supposed to. It is only upto you whether or not you want to share your jutsu or not. It is protocol to try to convince ninjas to share their jutsus. Anyway, onto the main reason why I called you.

"Here.." He said while passing me a scroll.

"You have been granted leave for two weeks. You have to go back to the leaf village and show that scroll to our ninjas in patrol of our village. It is very important so don't lose it."

"Thank you." I said

"You are welcome. Also...." He said taking out two more scrolls from his drawer.

"Take this scroll and give it to Lord Hokage." He said while referring to the Red color scroll with Fire written on it. "Don't read it's contents, you just have to deliver it directly to the Hokage. Also, after you have spend about 2-3 days there, You will have your official exam for promotion to a Chunin that I mentioned earlier. You will leave in about an hour. So start packing your things."

"What about this one?" I asked pointing to the grey coloured scroll in my hand.

"You are familiar with the process for your journey back to the village in middle of the war correct?"

'Ahh...I see' So these are the missions I have to complete while travelling back to the village.

The process mentioned before is that when you take a leave during the war mid-way. You are expected to act as a reinforcement for missions situated near your travel route and those you might intercept during your journey back to the village.

"Yes" I gave him a reply

"Alright, you are free to leave."

After saying goodbye to the team and packing my stuff, I left the base and ran towards the Leaf village.

Before leaving, I looked through all of the missions assigned to me. There were 15 in total, most of them were to only act as a reinforcement or provide support in an ongoing mission. Only 2-3 were missions that were recently commissioned.

A team of ninjas have already set out for these missions and I have to join them. Most of these missions were bandit extermination. Since they had been acting up in during the war period.

But one mission stood out. It was to confirm the presence of the enemy near the borders of The Land of Rice.

'They are making their shinobis cross 2 countries to launch attack on the land of Fire? Either Iwa is getting desperate or they are planning something big...Looks like I know where I have to go now.'

'Assuming that the team assigned to this mission has already departed, On an average it will take them about 3 days of travel to reach here, 2 if they rush here. And on an estimate, it will take me a day and half to reach there as well. But, we can't meet directly at the mission location, So I have to meet them someplace nearby the mission location and on their travel route as well.'

Now this will seriously cause a lot of trouble. I will have to rush over there right now and wait for their arrival over there, but that too after predicting the path they are most likely to use. Even a slight miscommunication during a mission can cause failure. And there is no proper way of communication between us.

'....But well.....it will work out for the best. No point worrying about that.'

But I am absolutely doing this mission. It is way too important to be left alone. If my presence can have even a slightly favourable effect, it's worth it. Because if something big actually happens, Konoha could incur huge losses.

Which wouldn't have affected me if not for the fact that I reside in Konoha and if it takes too much loss, it will also affect my lifestyle.

'Alright, let's rush over there right now.' I said standing up with the scroll containing mission descriptions still my head.

I looked at it again and spotted two more mission location on the way.

'I will complete these two along the way as well since I have to complete at least 5 of these missions anyway and I know I will be too lazy to come back for them.'

I put the scroll away and set out for my destination.

After 2 days

In the afternoon, I sat on a tall tree with my back to the trunk, trying to give my body some rest after being active constantly for 2 days and sleeping for only 4 hours.

I managed to get here in only a day and half even after stopping to complete the 2 bandit extermination missions while coming here. During two missions, I simply took over the entire mission from the hands of the group of Genins deployed for this mission, Since I wanted to quickly get this thing over with.

It took time to confirm my identity, but since I had the mission scroll as well as my official identity with me. They were able to confirm my identity as well as the fact that I was their superior.

I ordered them to block off the exists of their base, and stay out of my way while I take out the enemy.

I heard a lot of murmurs of complain coming from them while they were going away. One short tempered genin among them even openly yelled at me saying that I was immature and was not acting my age and that it was a bad decision, but he was stopped by his other teammates and he went away reluctantly. And I didn't have the time to bother with him.

After everyone got into their positions, I began the one sided massacre, which unlike the other fights I have had since coming to this world, was not even slightly exciting.

They were too weak for me to feel exhilarated. I needed someone close to my level at least for me to start enjoying the fight.

After 5 minutes, at the end this boring battle, which left me absolutely annoyed, I came out of their underground base, only to be greeted with the horrified look on the faces of their faces. After following their gaze, I saw myself and understood why they had such horrified look on their faces, I was literally drenched in blood.

But I just shrugged and approached them and said "All the bandits have been taken care of. I took out a scroll from my pouch and tossed it at them. "This contains all the things that were useful in their base."

"You can go back and pass on your report to the village." I said and left to find a place to clean myself up."

Well that was all that happened in those 2 missions, I just hope that they will arrive soon. The one thing I want right now is to just sleep in my bed not on a make-shift one like last night or on those hospital beds.

'After this I have to complete two more missions.' Just the thought of that annoyed me. I mean if the mission was important I wouldn't whine about it, but they are sending me to eliminate bandits. I mean how is that a good use of my ability.

Suddenly, I experienced influx of information.

'Looks like they are finally here.' I thought after analysing the memories I received from my shadow clone.

I had placed my shadow clones in about 300 meters range of myself on each of the paths predicted by me that could be used by them. Since I should not meet them with a shadow clone, I told my shadow clones to disperse themselves after spotting them.

I now made the hand sign to release all the other shadow clones and did the same. I stood up and looked down from the very top of this tall tree. And I could actually see them approaching them as well.

They would go past me from my right side as they continue down their path. So I immediately used body-flicker to arrive right in front of them.

I landed about 50 meters away from them and I had immediately recognised their team leader from the anime.

All of them stopped at my sudden arrival and immediately got on guard and readied themselves for battle. The person at their front held out his hand to stop the rest from rushing in on me.

I raised both of my hands above my hands and said "Hey.hey.hey Calm down I am on your side. I was in the Iwa camp and am going back to the village for a while." I said while slowly lowering my hands and taking out the scrolls and my official identification from my pockets and put them down on the ground and backed away.

Akimichi Choza, their leader told one of the ninjas to collect the contents I laid out on the ground. After confirming my identity, his expression lightened and he stopped being on guard in front of me and told his subordinates to do the same.

After all this pain in the ass task of identity confirmation was completed, I finally took a proper look on the entire team of ninjas and recognised another shinobi among them. A boy the same age as myself with a katana tied to his back, in front of me stood one of my classmates, Gekko Hayate.

If I recall correctly, he was only 2-3 ranks below me in the academy, So he was in the top 5 graduates of our year as well.

Well at least it won't be as boring as I thought it would be. Since I got along well with Hayate. back in the academy because we both used and trained mainly in swords.
