1 A Different Choice

October 10th (Uchiha Compound)

Mikoto Uchiha, the matriarch of her clan was giving birth to her third child in a sealed and secure location. It had been a strange pregnancy. She had somehow conceived while she was already pregnant, which was beyond unnatural. The odd thing was that she had somehow evolved her eyes to their next stage during the later stages of the pregnancy. It wasn't associated with any clear emotion; Unlike the despair most would be required to experience; hers simply awakened one day.

When the baby came out, she was a little concerned. As she held the baby, she noticed something strange. The baby didn't cry like a normal child. It was just looking around with an innocent look. Curiously, her soft amethyst eyes were like jewels sparkling with a bubbly interest in everything around her. That was an odd thing too. How did the baby get that eye color? She had only been with one man and he clearly had black eyes just like herself, so where did the color come from. Thankfully, she wasn't concerned with any marriage drama coming out of it. They were a clan whose gifts were based on ocular techniques. A random color mutation wasn't impossible. In fact, quite a few ocular bloodlines were born from mutations in the Uchiha's eyes throughout the years. This was taken as one of them.

Before she could finish contemplating this though, her husband slammed the door open. Before she could start yelling at him, he was gone with the baby in his arms. Unfortunately, she was too weak to chase after him, the recent childbirth had taken its toll. She would have words with him when she saw him next. You don't just take a mother's newborn daughter from them right after delivery!

What she didn't know was that there was another greater event happening outside of these sealed walls and that she wouldn't have the chance to have that conversation.

The Nine-Tails Attack (Fugaku's P.O.V.)

A middle-aged man with black hair and black eyes was rushing toward his Hokage; this is Fugaku, the clan leader of the Uchiha Clan. In his hands was a small bundle wrapped in the finest silk their clan had access to. In the same direction, he can see a massive orange nine-tailed fox. Somehow the village's tailed beast, its weapon of deterrence had escaped. He could already see what effects this would have on his clan's relationship with the village. It didn't need to be said that this wasn't good for them.

The reason is due to their eyes. It's a well-known story that their most well-known ancestor once attacked the village with a subjugated nine-tailed fox. While most weren't aware of how he did it, they all suspected it had to do with their clan's eyes, the sharingan. They were right though; it did have that power in the eye's strongest state known to their clan, the mangekyou sharingan. With all of this being the case, he had to act fast as the clan leader and he knew just the way to do it.

He arrived just in time to see the leader of the village, Minato Namikaze, getting ready to perform the hand signs for the reaper death seal jutsu. This jutsu had the power to seal the target's spirit and chakra into one's self or others and both parties inside the caster will be pulled into the belly of the reaper. Next to him, a table-sized alter was set up with a baby placed on it.

"Wait Minato"

Minato stopped and looked at him.

"I have to do this Fugaku. Don't try to stop me. The village needs the nine-tails sealed inside someone to act as a deterrent to the other nations. However, I can't ask someone else to make this sacrifice. It needs to be me." Minato said resolutely. How could he ask anyone else to sacrifice their lives in this manner. No, it would be him.

"Minato, let me do it and seal the beast inside of my child. I've already prepared my will on the way here to transfer custody of the child to you, the Hokage." Fugaku said. This was the only way he could think of to resolve the issues with the Uchiha.

"No, I will not sacrifice your daughter for this and I most definitely will not sacrifice your life." Minato stubbornly continued.

"Minato, I am the clan head of the Uchiha Clan and this is the only way we can survive in this village. As we speak, Danzo is continuing to act against us and isolating us from the village. There aren't many, but a few of the more powerful members are already discussing taking more drastic actions. We need something like this to tie us back to the village before the schism becomes to big before the situation becomes beyond salvaging. This act of heroism will be that tie and the new container being my daughter will be the show of loyalty. My daughter will also be the perfect host. While the Uzumaki have stronger bodies than the Uchiha, we have eyes that can dominate the tailed beasts. Even if she didn't actively use them to subjugate the beast, there wouldn't be much chance of it controlling her." Fugaku said passionately, fully dedicated to his decided course of action. He continued.

"We also need you alive. In case you've forgotten, you're the reason why the Stone village stopped its hostile actions against us. Without you, we'll be weakened enough for them to declare the fourth great shinobi war. Between you and your new Uchiha daughter, the leaf village will be secure for the next several decades at the least." He finished.

Minato frowned in contemplation. He didn't even need to ask why the daughter would be given to his family. The container would always be tied to the Hokage, not to any individual clan. He had to agree with Fugaku though; once he though about it, he was needed in the village. The last war ended not too long ago and he was the villages primary deterrent. When he thought about it even further, he realized that he was even more of a deterrent than the tailed beast. After all, the nine tails had never been used in war. It was a prop at best. Hell, few even knew that Kushina was the container.

Nodding, Minato moved his recently born son to the left side of the alter and placed the silent Uchiha child on the right. Once done, he performed the hand signs for the reaper death seal and cast the jutsu using Fugaku as the medium. Suddenly, a purple-skinned demon with white shaggy hair and red horns appeared behind Fugaku. It reached a tattooed hand through him and gripped the nine-tails. It gripped the entirety of the beast's yin chakra and sealed it inside of the girl. Despite the nine tails resisting with all its might, it didn't stand a chance. It would be different if its mind didn't just come out of a mind dominated state, but things aren't always in one's favor. Then, it reached again and did the same with the beast's yang chakra, but into his son.

"What's her name?" Minato suddenly asked.

"What?" Confused, Fugaku started back at Minato, internally realizing he hadn't named her yet with everything going on.

"What's her name Fugaku?" Minato re-stated as he pointed toward the new container.

"Kamui. Kamui Uchiha." It just came to him. With the mystical events surrounding her birth, there really may be some divine influence involved. Kamui was a perfect name for her.

Minato nodded.

Once the sealing was done, Minato used an Eight Trigrams seal to lock the beast in place for both children and proceeded to draw the last of Fugaku's chakra into Kamui's sealing formula.

"Minato, draw the chakra from my eyes and seal it into a separate area of the seal." Fugaku said suddenly.

"I don't have a problem with it, but why?" Minato asked.

"What most Uchiha don't know is that our Sharingan's chakra is separate from our eyes. We have an independent form of chakra that transmutes regular chakra into a form usable by our eyes. It's born in the brain and moves to the eyes progressively as strong emotions are experienced. A link always exists, but the location changes. The eyes evolve as more of the special chakra is moved to the eyes. When our eyes reach the mangekyou stage though, the bond between the eyes and the brain is altered. It goes from a one-way connection to a two-way channel. The problem, is that there isn't enough of the chakra for the person to use those eyes. Since they use the brain's chakra more heavily, the chakra in the eyes is pulled back toward the brain, leaving the user with a sharingan that doesn't have enough Chakra to sustain its current stage, leading to blindness.

We Uchiha have a technique that pulls the chakra of a mangekyou sharingan fully towards the eyes before it can be extracted and implanted into another. The downside is that the gifter will lose their ability to use their sharingan like an Uchiha. They can still use a transplanted set like your student Kakashi does, but it'll never be native. It was a jointly created by one of our earliest ancestors. Only the clan heads will ever learn this technique. Through it, a person will have the chakra reserves of the eyes and brain filled leading to them being capable of using the full power of the mangekyou sharingan without losing their vision." He explained as he slowly lost more and more of his consciousness. He pushed the full chakra of his mangekyou sharingan to his eyes and waited for Minato to extract them.

[A/N: This is absolutely different from the cannon series. Transplants will still work in a similar fashion for regular sharingan, but they won't be able to evolve once transplanted. Mangekyou need consent due to the nature of how the chakra works in this novel.]

"I want you to seal this chakra and have them direct it toward the eyes should the bond linking them to the brain shift. This will be my compensation to her for making her into the village's sacrifice."

Minato nodded and drew out the chakra from Fugaku's eyes with his conscious help. Then he altered her seal according to Fugaku's request. He didn't know if it would work as intended, but it was certainly worth a shot.

"One last thing Minato" Fugaku began weakly. He could feel the reaper slowly drawing his soul out of his body. "Ask a Hyuga to check Danzo's disabled arm. We've noticed that the chakra signature to that part of his body has changed; it's filled with an abundant amount of life energy and is constantly draining chakra from his body. Our eyes can't see all the details, but they can give us clues. The behavior looks like a transplanted sharingan, but with a larger amount of Chakra being drained. The chakra gathering to that arm has been progressively getting larger over the years. I wasn't going to bring this up due to it being declared clan business, but on my death bed, what does it matter. After all, what can the clan do to me now haha!" See said as his soul was finally fully ripped out of his body, which started making pace for the ground.

Once his body started falling, Minato caught him, clearly not wanting his friend's corpse to receive any extra damage.

"Thank you, old friend. I'll take you up on that offer."
