22 Chapter 22: Mission Complete

As the two Genin and their trusty companions, the three Ninken, continued their covert pursuit of Minoru-san, the crowded streets of Tanzaku-gai gradually thinned out. With each step they took, the bustling urban environment transformed into a serene residential district. The distant echoes of chatter and footsteps grew fainter, replaced by the tranquility of a neighborhood on the outskirts of town.

The houses lining the streets exuded an air of comfort, each one unique in design and character. Flower beds adorned the front yards, bursting with vibrant colors that beautifully contrasted against the lush greenery. It was evident that this district catered to the comfortable middle-class, as the houses exuded a sense of quality and were far from appearing cheap.

After approximately thirty minutes of pursuit, it seemed that Minoru-san had finally reached his destination. He came to a stop in front of one of the houses and scanned his surroundings before approaching the wooden door and knocking gently. The anticipation built as they waited, and soon the door swung open, revealing a woman framed within.

The woman possessed long hazelnut brown hair, dark eyes, and a striking attractiveness. She appeared to be around the same age as Minoru-san and was dressed in a revealing black dress. A pleased smile illuminated her face as she warmly embraced Minoru-san, extending a heartfelt greeting before inviting him inside the house.

Tekku instantly grasped the situation, prompting him to turn to Hana and inquire, "Do you have your camera?" He unsealed his own camera from a storage scroll as he spoke. Hana nodded, retrieving her camera from the bag strapped to her back. Uncertain of the best approach, she questioned, "What should we do now? Do you have a plan?"

"Stay positioned in front of the house and keep a vigilant eye on the entrance, but ensure you remain undetected," Tekku instructed. "We will continue following Minoru-san until he returns home. Once he exits through the entrance, try to capture a photograph of him together with the woman. Meanwhile, I will stealthily make my way to the back and attempt to gain a glimpse inside." He paused momentarily, considering their findings. "I believe I recognize her chakra signature. She used to visit the restaurant where Minoru-san works occasionally, but she no longer seems to be associated with it. The nature of their relationship remains uncertain. It's possible this whole affair is unrelated to his work."

"That's a plausible possibility," Hana agreed, nodding in alignment with Tekku's analysis. "Be cautious and ensure you remain undetected as well," she cautioned with a grin. With that, she and the three Ninken pups positioned themselves discreetly, closely observing the front of the house. Hana ensured she had a good vantage point of the entrance to capture a compelling image.

Meanwhile, Tekku expertly maneuvered into the backyard of the house, using his sensory abilities to monitor the positions of the two individuals within the building. They appeared to be the only occupants, with no one else inside. Stealthily peering through a window, Tekku witnessed a spacious dining room with a wooden table. Minoru-san and the woman sat together, indulging in a romantic dinner accompanied by flickering candles, wine, and a cozy fire burning in the fireplace. It undeniably resembled a romantic date, except for one significant problem—Minoru-san was married.

Carefully capturing photographs of the intimate dinner, Tekku continued his observation. At this point, they had evidence of Minoru-san engaging in a romantic dinner with an unknown woman. While this was not definitive proof, Tekku realized that further observation was necessary to complete the mission promptly, as Inoichi-sensei would likely deem it insufficient.

With no other option, Tekku patiently awaited whether they would embark on the typical post-dinner activities of a couple. After over 20 minutes of conversation and dining, their intimacy grew. Tekku managed to capture a photograph of them engaged in a passionate embrace before they moved upstairs, maintaining their closeness. Aware of the challenge ahead, Tekku quietly adhered to the house's exterior wall, cautiously ascending. However, he soon encountered an obstacle—the room they entered lacked a window.

"Shit, what should I do?" Tekku pondered, feeling conflicted. "The picture of them making out might suffice as proof, but perhaps I should ensure it." After careful consideration, he made a decision.

Walking discreetly along the wall, Tekku reached the window leading to the adjacent room. It was shut, and no other windows appeared to be open. Without knowledge of how to unlock a window from the outside and unwilling to risk exposing his presence by breaking it, Tekku resorted to improvisation.

Forming a chakra string at the tip of his finger, he skillfully manipulated it through the gap between the frame and the window. To his relief, it worked. Tekku managed to affix his chakra string to the window handle, successfully unlocking it. Stealthily infiltrating the house, he proceeded silently toward the room where he heard the couple engaged in sexual activity.

Fortunately, they had left the door ajar, providing Tekku with the opportunity to discreetly capture multiple photographs of their act of infidelity. Afterward, he retreated from the house, employing his chakra strings once again to close the window.

Returning to Hana, who eagerly awaited his report in front of the house, Tekku was greeted with hopeful anticipation. "You're back! Did you find anything?" Hana asked, her eyes reflecting hope and curiosity.

"Yes, Minoru-san is indeed having an affair with this woman. I have photographs of them sharing a romantic dinner, making out, and even engaging in sexual activity," Tekku confirmed, nodding. "Let's wait for them to conclude their encounter and capture the photograph of them at the entrance before we report our findings to the others."

"Okay," Hana acknowledged, her resolve unwavering. They patiently awaited the opportune moment to capture the final image before departing for the inn.

Upon reporting their findings, Inoichi determined that the evidence was sufficient to conclude the mission. They were to submit the report to the client the following day, and Inoichi assigned the task to the three genin, aiming to familiarize them with handling awkward situations.

Early the next morning, as Minoru-san left for work, the team approached the client's house and contacted her. Despite the circumstances, the client received the report with remarkable composure. Her eyes, however, betrayed the pain she felt upon learning the truth.

The client recognized the woman in the pictures. It turned out that the woman with whom Minoru-san was having an affair was the wife of his boss, the owner of the Restaurant. That explained her occasional visits to the restaurant. While she portrayed the role of a loving wife when visiting her husband at work, she was secretly coordinating rendezvous with Minoru-san.

Ultimately, Team 10 successfully completed their first C-Rank mission. The client signed the mission scroll, and the payment had already been arranged, as missions required upfront payment to maintain the Ninja Villages' reputation and trustworthiness. The repercussions of the affair remained unknown to them. Whether the boss would discover the truth or if they would proceed with a divorce was yet to be seen. Without wasting any time, they departed from the city and embarked on their journey back to Konohagakure.
