Chapter 24: The Anomaly I

........

"If you're lonely when you're alone, you're in bad company."

~ Jean-Paul Sartre

"We can introduce the healing chambers to the hospital, but it can't be now," Said Isaac, "All the ones we're making are going directly to the war camps."

"I understand," Nohara Rin nodded seriously, "However, we still don't have nearly enough personnel to completely take over the hospital."

"That's an issue," Isaac nodded as he stroked his chin, "That's not something we can solve though as it requires time. We have to wait until students graduate from their medical studies before they can be put to use."

"What if we assign some of the most talented prematurely? They can be supervised by someone to ensure no mistakes?" Rin wondered, "That'd at least lessen the burden on us enough to ensure stable operation."

"No, health is one of the few things we absolutely can not compromise on," Isaac shook his head firmly, "We even need to have them go through a testing period just in case."

"In the end, we just need time, too much time," Rin couldn't help but let out a sigh of exhaustion, "We simply can not keep up with the demand for healthcare."

"I know," Isaac stroked his chin in deep thought. Changing the world so much was bound to come with its own problems, just like now, lack of capable people.

Isaac built and funded dozens of schools throughout the past three years, all over the land of fire.

The time to build such infrastructure was minimal due to the use of Wood and Earth techniques.

That, however, doesn't change the fact that Isaac has to wait several more years, waiting for the students to go through school, then in this case, medical school.

Every part of the process was carefully optimized by him, using the minds of hundreds of clones to perfect the education process, even writing all the curriculum books himself.

After all, the education and healthcare of this world are abysmally low even in the great villages, mostly centered around shinobi.

The common people were basically clueless before the coming of Eternal Newspaper, and even with it, they wouldn't be able to learn much. It's after all just a newspaper.

And since the newspaper reports regarding everything in the world, it naturally reported a lot on Isaac and his inventions.

"There is unfortunately no solution that wouldn't compromise healthcare," Isaac shook his head.

"Then I have to work harder," Rin pumped herself up, determination clear in her eyes.

"Here they go again," Obito couldn't help but complain, "It was supposed to be a meeting between friends, yet it turned into a business meeting, again..."

"It's youth, Obito! Learn from them and let that passion of youth out!" Might Guy was very appreciative, sporting a big smile.

"Passion," Kakashi murmured under his breath, 'Can I have such a passion too?' He wondered to himself.

'They have so much in common,' Kurenai on the other hand could only sigh in envy. At this point, it didn't even feel like a competition.

The only one without many complicated thoughts Sarutobi Asuma as he let out a sigh of relief, 'Maybe I can have a chance with Kurenai now?'

The bunch of friends usually met up for dinner to catch up. It would've been a lovely time if Isaac and Rin didn't discuss business every time.

It does, however, make sense as Rin is no longer a ninja but a medical nin. She has always only wanted to help people, and after encouragement from Isaac, she chose to follow her dreams.

Thus, Isaac welcomed her into his newly built medical center only after he taught her as much as he could.

In the medical field, she was certainly a talent, taking in all his knowledge with passion.

However, she's still too young after all, so her position in the hospital is befitting of her current knowledge and capabilities, not too high.

Isaac was more so guiding her to run the medical center in his coming long absence.

There was only so much business talk they could do before they had to chitchat with their friends, mostly Obito and the bunch talking about their adventures and bragging about the dangerous missions they completed.

Sleep's call was heard as the middle of the night drew near, thus the end of the dinner party.

Only Isaac and Rin were left alone after the latter asked with endless struggle, "Can I... Can I talk to you alone?" Isaac nodded before the two walked away alone.

"My condolences," Kakashi comforted as he patted Obito's shoulders, the latter's sad expression turning into bafflement, "I'm sure you'll find someone that loves you, probably, maybe, eh, maybe not?"

"Kakashi! You son of a bitch!!" Obito's yell fell on deaf ears as Kakashi flickered away.

However, Obito wasn't too sad. He may have fallen in love with Rin at some point, but he realized that she has someone else in her heart, so the day she confesses was predictable to him.

And Isaac was very difficult to hate. You'd have to be Danzo to hate him. Obito could only wish them happiness.

He assumed that Rin was going to confess. However, he was very wrong as even Isaac was confused.

Rin hugged Isaac the moment they were alone and begged, "Please don't push yourself too hard. We're all here for you and we'll help you to the best of our abilities, so please don't have any suicidal thoughts."

"What?" Isaac was truly bewildered. He has never been more bewildered, "What are you talking about?"

"I don't even know if you are a clone now, but your other clone told me," Rin muttered something very strange, "Not everything has to be perfect, so please don't push yourself so much that you have those thoughts."

Rin seemed truly emotional and afraid as she begged him. Whatever the clone told her must've fucked her up emotionally, yet she kept it all in until they were alone.

[Emergency] That's the message that was sent to the main body directly after he heard her words.

What followed was instant synchronization to the main body as Isaac took over, the true Isaac.

"Trust me, Rin, the last thing I would ever do is kill myself," Isaac assured her as he gently stroked her hair, "My quest to fix the world is a long arduous journey that I will never give up."

"Bu... But you clone said," Rin responded hesitantly, still doubtful.

"Maybe a part of me believes I will do that," Isaac murmured, his expression a bit unpredictable, "Only If my quest fails."

"Then... Then I will make sure your quest succeeds," Rin promised with clear resolve in her eyes, "I will be by your side every step of the way!"

Only then did Rin realize the intimate position they were in and what she just promised.

It was all too ambiguous for her as her face turned red like a tomato, quickly leaping away from his brace and sprinting out of sight in embarrassment.

"I don't need you to stay by my side," Isaac muttered under his breath, "I just need you to seek progress... Is such a need selfish?"

Isaac wondered before flickering away. Decline and stagnation are his adversaries in this life, so maybe there is some selfishness in there.

Matters not, what just happened set her path in stone, a predictable path of seeking progress.

It almost looked like one of Isaac's scripts, manipulating the people around him to be the way he wanted them to be. Well, is it one of his scripts?
