-End of Note

The new day welcomed Shinji with a radiant glow that entered through his window. Shinji had slept in because for once he finally had a day off. "Sakura won't be bothering me today!" Shinji rejoiced. While laying down, Shinji began contemplating his plans for the day. "Maybe I should invite Kiba and Choji for some ramen," he thought. In the midst of his thoughts, something occurred to Shinji. He felt as if he had forgotten to do a task that was incredibly important, but he couldn't put his finger on what the task was. "Yesterday was the graduation exam… Hmm let's see… OH!" the realization suddenly hit him; he had to go and get his picture taken. Without sparing any more time, Shinji leaped off his bed and began getting dressed. Once he was fully clothed, he hurried out of his room, grabbed a piece of bread from the kitchen, and headed out.

"See ya, Mom! I got to go!" Shinji yelled when he was halfway out the door. "Alright, be safe," his mother replied. "Shoot, Shoot, Shoot, I'm really late!" Shinji thought as he jogged down the street towards the Hokage's Mansion. Shinji, who was in a rush, was paying no attention to his surroundings, leading him to crash right into another person who was strolling in front of him. Shinji fell to the floor onto his backside from the impact and held his head from the pain. "Hey, watch where you're going!" a familiar voice moaned. Upon looking up, Shinji was greeted by the sight of a blond boy with the signature whiskers and makeup all over him. "Oh, Naruto. Sorry about that. But I've got to ask, why are you headed towards the Hokage's mansion and what have you put all over yourself?" Shinji said, feigning ignorance.

Shinji stood and began walking with Naruto as Naruto explained the details of the night before. Shinji noticed, however, that Naruto didn't tell him all the details. Naruto briefly answered Shinji's other question by saying he wanted to look good for the picture. Shifting the topic back onto Naruto graduating, Shinji asked, "So you learned the clone jutsu? How'd you accomplish that?" Naruto, who was wearing a proud expression, replied, "This isn't just any jutsu; this is the shadow clone jutsu."

Shinji, further leaning into the ignorant act, made a confused expression, wanting Naruto to reveal more. "So how'd you gain that jutsu?" Shinji asked. Naruto this time went into detail about how he obtained the Shadow clone technique, giving Shinji the perfect opportunity to ask Naruto to teach him. "So.. Naruto.. Do you mind teaching me the technique?" Shinji requested. Naruto thought about it, then began, "I wrote the technique down on a scroll just in case I didn't have time to learn all of it; I could just give that to you. It's on one condition though. I heard you defeated Sasuke."

Shinji, realizing what Naruto was getting at, shook his head and said, "I won't be fighting you anytime soon. Maybe some other time." Naruto put his hands behind his and said, "Suit yourself." They had now arrived at the Hokage's mansion and entered. Naruto rushed ahead, and Shinji followed behind. Once Shinji had climbed the stairs and reached the Hokage's office, he sat outside and waited for Naruto's picture to be done. "Since he doesn't want to give it to me, I'll just steal it later," Shinji thought.

As he was devising his plan, a young boy marched by and stopped for a moment to look at Shinji, then walked past him storming into the Hokage's office. "There goes Konohamaru…" Shinji mumbled. The whole commotion that happened in the show ensued, until Naruto and Konohamaru finally left the room, along with Ebisu. Once things had settled down, Shinji knocked on the door and entered after hearing the Third Hokage beckon him in.

"Oh, it's you Shinji. We've prepared your Anbu uniform. After the picture, take it with you," Hiruzen ordered. Shinji nodded and stepped forward to get into frame at the photographer's instructions. While his picture was getting taken, Shinji was mentally preparing himself to ask for a scroll that would be useful later on. Once the picture was done, Shinji turned to the Third Hokage and announced, "I have a request, Lord Third." Hiruzen sat in the thinker pose gesturing for Shinji to go ahead and ask. "I'd like a scroll that teaches the more intricate details of fuinjutsu," Shinji said.

The Third Hokage seemed to be taken aback by Shinji's request. "What did a Genin need an advanced fuinjutsu scroll for?" Hiruzen wondered. Shinji, noticing reluctance in the Third Hokage, added, "A scroll like that I believe would help me develop faster. I've read a bit on fuinjutsu from the academy's library, and the possibilities of what could be done with that knowledge intrigued me," Shinji lied; he didn't learn of fuinjutsu from the library, rather he learnt it from watching the very world he was now in.

The Third Hokage's expression changed from one of reluctance to curiosity. "Well, we can get that prepared. Come by the office tomorrow. For now, you are dismissed," Hiruzen instructed. Shinji bowed, took the uniform, and left the room, elated that he was able to convince the Third Hokage. "I was just trying my luck, and things actually turned out well!" Shinji laughed to himself as he exited the Hokage's residence.

Shinji, now having his first task of the day completed, set his sights on stealing the copy of the Shadow clone technique scroll that Naruto claimed to have. He bolted home, putting his Anbu uniform in the back of his closet, and left the house. "Luckily for me, I know where Naruto lives," Shinji thought to himself as he sprinted towards Naruto's home. Shinji knew Naruto would be spending the rest of the day with Konohamaru, so he wasn't worried about being caught. Once he finally arrived at Naruto's place, he opened the window, hopped inside, and began looking around.

It wasn't long before he found the scroll since Naruto left it in plain sight. It was on the desk, in his living room. "This moron can't hide such a secret technique?" Shinji said as he climbed back out through the window, closed it, and jumped down. Feeling accomplished, he went home and began studying the Shadow clone technique. After a few hours of reading, Shinji had somewhat grasped the concept. Knowing he could easily learn the Shadow clone technique later, he went over to Kiba's place and Choji's, inviting them out to eat some ramen.
