Admission Tests to the Academy

Five months later.

Konoha. Yamanaka Compound.

A family of four were peacefully drinking their evening tea after dinner, at the head of the table was seated a man looking across the table at his grandson and thinking about tomorrow's event. After deciding something he spoke up:"Hanzo, tomorrow is important day for you. Academy will hold admission tests, which will consist of written exam, physical assessments and chakra evaluation. On written exam you'll be evaluated based on your history knowledge and some common sense knowledge, I don't think that it be will a problem for you. On physical assessment your strength, endurance and speed will be evaluated through basic physical activities. This is also not a problem for you. Lastly, you'll be asked to channel chakra as much as possible to a special crystal ball which will glow in different colors at different intensities acito channelled chakra's amount and quality. Participants who don't have activated chakra system will be helped to activate it, and come back couple days later for chakra assessment. Then after all evaluation and assessment your results will be analyzed and based on this analysis future students will be distributed to different classes... Do you have any questions about admission test's content?"

"No, grandpa."

"Good, now Hanzo listen very carefully and pay attention. What I'm about to say will not leave this room, you will not tell anyone is it clear?"

After boy's affirmative nod Shinya continued with serious tone:"During your physical and chakra assessment I want you to use only three fourths of your abilities and try to show with your body language that you're tired and you are at your limits. Many people will try to show there best during assessments, especially those from Senju, Uchiha and Sarutobi. Don't be effected by their performance and show your full capacity. Temari, practice with Hanzo his body language and mimics tonight so that he will act more realistic. Am I clear, Hanzo?"

"Yes, grandpa .... but why I have to do it?" Boy was clearly unhappy about this demand.

"Just do as I said. I'll explain the reasons after the admission tests. Now, go and practice with your mother."

Boy and his mother left the room.

"Do you really have to be so stern with Hanzo at this topic? He was very excited about tomorrow, just like every little boy he wanted to show everyone how strong he is." Toka asked her husband.

"Because he's still a little boy he'll act according to plan. Tension between Villages is rising again, situation is getting worse. Not more than a decade later a new Shinobi War will begin, this war will be more fierce. Villages had learned how to fight war, new strategies had been developed and most importantly other Villages also adopted Academy system and started producing large number of genins for the war, especially Iwa and Kumo. Konoha got its own problems as well, Hokage and his friends are young, fearless and activate.They might act rashly and implement offensive strategies which will force genins to participate the war. First they will send genins with great performance records starting from admission and throughout Academy, when situation gets worse Academy Administration will be ordered to convince capable students for early graduation and if situation keeps getting worse Academy curriculum might be cut off. Of course all of this is the worst case scenario but we can't risk and gamble, Hanzo's life is at stake. I don't want to live that nightmare once more, if needed I will go to battlefield by myself and sacrifice myself instead of Hanzo. Now do you understand why we need to be cautious and act as I said."

Toka didn't answer, she just got closer to her husband and hugged him.

Next morning, eventhough he practiced with his mother till late at night he was so excited that Hanzo couldn't sleep more and got up early. As always he performed his morning workout routine, practiced some shurikenjutsu. Then he went home took a shower and put on his new uniform. He was wearing brown short sleeved tshirt, gray cargo shorts and black shinobi sandals. After finishing final touches he came down to dining room where all his family was seated and was waiting for him.

"Good morning and have a nice meal."

After getting responses he started quickly eating his breakfast.

"Honey, slow down. Eat carefully." Temari said to her son.

"Kaa-san if I eat slowly we can be late."

"Hanzo, your mother is right, besides we have plenty of time."

"Yes, grandpa."

Half an hour later, Hanzo and Shinya left the house and couple minutes later Yamanaka Compound. They were slowly walking through streets towards Academy, eventhough it wasn't the first time for Hanzo to leave Compound he still looked at Konoha street with curiosity, turning his head right and left.

When they reached the Academy, it's entrance was crowded with parents and their children who were going to take admission test. Shinya looked at a crowd and after noticing brown reddish haired woman with two children beside her, he led his grandson towards them.

"Good morning Mito-sama, young lady and young boy. What a wonderful day, isn't it? Hanzo say hello to Mito-sama, pay your respects."

"Good morning, Mito-sama. It's an honor to meet you. Good morning, to you too." Hanzo looked curiously at old woman with brown reddish hair, just like his grandmother he thought. Rhombus shaped sign on her forehead caught his attention. On her left hand, was a girl with a long blonde hair. Girl was tall and looked older but not more than couple years than him.

On the woman's right was boy with short dark brown hair and sunny face. He was almost same height as himself and probably same age. The boy must be the one who would participate at admission test.

"Good morning, Shinya-san. Good morning, young boy. You must be Toka-chan's grandson? What a lovely boy." Mito replied to the greetings.

"Yes, he is. Let me introduce my grandson Yamanaka Hanzo .... and these young people should be your grandchildren?"

"Yes, they are. Senju Tsunade is my oldest grandchild, she graduated from Academy last year and became genin of the Hokage's team, hopefully she will become chunin in couple months. This young man is Tsunade's younger brother, Senju Nawaki. He will be applying to Academy as your grandson, Shinya-san. I guess they'll be at the same class and have a good friendship." Mito proudly introduced her grandchildren.

"Tsunade, Nawaki pleasure to meet you all. I also hope Nawaki and Hanzo will be good friends." old Yamanaka replied.

"Okay, everyone gather around. Assessment will start shortly, I will read names and exam halls. You should get into the building and follow signs to find your exam halls, after you enter exam hall follow orders from appointed instructor in the exam hall. Make your final preparations I'll be calling in 5 minutes." just as Shinya had finished talking, a shinobi in standard chunin uniform appeared before crowd.

"If you excuse us, we need to make our final preparations with Hanzo. Good luck at your assessment Nawaki. Have a good day you all."

"Of course, good luck to you too. Have a good day."

Two Yamanakas get to the side and the old one talked to younger one:"Okay, Hanzo don't be nervous. Just pay attention to what I told you yesterday and you will be fine. Don't forget your mother's teachings. Now, get closer to entrance and wait for the call. I'll be waiting here. Good luck."

"I got it Oji.Thanks." with that Hanzo left.
