Chapter 8 - Summoning Jutsu(2)

Yahiko watched as the puff of smoke around him began to clear away and found himself standing on the same spot.

"Idiot, Do you know how dangerous that was!" Jiraiya smacked his head. "I did that once before in my youth and got teleported to Mount Myoboku. Trying to use a summoning jutsu without forming a contract first … You could have been sent far away and ended up lost forever!"

"S-sorry." Yahiko bowed his head.

It seemed that his summoning had faile …

… eh?

A white bird stood on the ground in front of him. He only noticed it now as the smoke had completely vanished - the creature was simply too tiny.

"A smol birb? T-that's my summoning?" Yahiko felt like crying.

As someone possessed a special power like the heavenly Rinnegan, he was expecting something special - A badass creature like the gigantic toad Jiraiya had or Hanzo's salamander. He imagined himself standing on top of his summon, looking proudly down with disdain on his enemies.

What could a small bird do on the battlefield?

"So, you're the person who got the Heavenly Rinnegan power from that pervert's stash." the bird stared at him. "For you to summon me means you've used up all your luck. For behold. I am the mightiest bird in the universe. All the other bird rulers are mere pretenders. I am the one and only creature worthy of being called the King of Birds. I am Tori! The legendary dove of the High Heavens! Fufuhahahaha!"

"..."

"Hey! What's with that look!" Tori crossed his wings, its head lifted proudly.

"This quail. Is it your summon, Yahiko?" Jiraiya looked on at it curiously. "How interesting, you actually managed to summon an animal without signing a contract. It's the first time I've seen something like that."

"I'm not a quail! How dare you compare me to that! I'm a heavenly dove! The King of Birds! Conqueror of Nests! Ruler of the Skies!" Tori flapped its wings. "Tell him that, master!"

Yahiko cocked his head to one side. "Jiraiya-sensei can't understand you?"

"You mean the lowly human that called me a quail? Of course, he can't! Only those who possess the powers created by the Supreme Emperor, such as your Heavenly Rinnegan, can understand my speech. This mortal is not worthy of being graced by my words."

Yahiko frowned. The bird mentioned the Heavenly Rinnegan earlier. So it might know something about its powers. It was a good thing that Jiraiya didn't understand what Tori was saying. It would have destroyed all the effort he had put into keeping this power a secret.

"Kid … are you speaking to it? All I hear are some cute squeaks from that animal."

"Um, yeah. Apparently, it wants me to tell you that it's a dove." He scratched his head. " Do you think you could leave me alone with it for a while? I would like to familiarise myself with my summon."

The white-haired man nodded. "It's important for you to get to know your companion. You'll be fighting alongside it in the future."

When Jiraiya had left, Yahiko looked at Tori, who was pecking at the ground.

"Right, I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Yahiko. So, could you explain why you were summoned … no wait. How did you even know I have the Heavenly Rinnegan in the first place?"

"Isn't that obvious? It's the only power that was missing … you have no idea how shocked that man was when he found out someone gained that ability. Unfortunately, rules are rules, once a power is given, they can't be taken back. Hmph."

"What kind of other abilities does the Heavenly Rinnegan have? There's barely any information about it in this world. My sensei says that it's a legendary dojutsu from the Sage of Six Paths or something …"

Tori flew to his shoulder, perching itself behind him.

"Please don't compare the other pathetic variants with what you have. Reveal your Heavenly Rinnegan to me and let me see something."

Yahiko nodded and channeled chakra through his eyes.

"I don't see any Tomoes, and the golden color is a little dim … so you've awakened the first stage. Not bad, not bad." Tori nodded its head. "The reason you were able to summon me without a contract is due to the Animal Path power of the Heavenly Rinnegan. It seems you haven't activated most of the powers of the other remaining paths, but the Human Path and Naraka Path powers should be usable as well. You'll be able to unlock the other path powers once you awaken the second stage of the Heavenly Rinnegan."

"Animal Path?"

"To put it simply. Regardless of the type of Rinnegan, they all possess a power known as the six paths technique. One of them is called the Animal Path which allows the user to summon a variety of creatures. The Heavenly Rinnegan is the strongest variant out of all the other Rinnegan Variants out there, created by the Supreme Emperor himself; and its Animal Path was designed to summon me - the Mighty Tori. In the future, you can just do so by clapping your hands together. There's no need for hand seals or to draw blood."

He nodded. This was definitely helpful. Even if Tori was useless in battle, at the very least it had provided him some much-needed information about his power.

"So … what kind of other abilities do I have?"

"Genjutsus don't affect you, Master. To deceive a user of the Heavenly Rinnegan is to commit Heresy!" the bird flew off, flying in circles around him. "It's time now for my sightseeing. I have to return! I wonder which goddess will be showering at that spot today fufuhahaha …" Tori said, then disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

Yahiko's eyes widened at the words he heard.

S-sightseeing?

His summon was not only a smol bird … but a perverted smol bird?

Hopefully, Tori had some special powers. He would have to ask about it the next chance he got. Yahiko sighed and began to head back towards his house.
