1 Prologue

Brilliant light shined through the clouds in the sky, painting the entire city in its brilliant luster. Gods walked through the streets, each of them smiling and talking with each other, for peace had finally settled on their lands.

Pleasant wind passed through unhindered, lifting the fallen leaves high into the air. They flew wildly and uncontrollably, like the huge river passing just below. It curled and twisted into various paths, eventually falling down into the mortal world below.

The flying island, better known as Heaven, welcomed another beautiful day. However, not everyone appreciated it the same way as others. On the highest peak of the island stood an enormous golden castle, where the strongest gods resided.

On a golden throne sat Zeus, resting against his hand.

Zeus wore a long flowing robe, adorned with symbols of his power and authority. His long white hair flowed down onto his back, curling up at the corners. Wrinkles spread across his mature face, enchanting his sharp jawline and square face. He looked tall and imposing, befitting his title as the ruler of all.

Yet, despite being so powerful, Zeus hadn't been in a proper fight for over a century, for peace had settled on their lands.

"I am so bored," Zeus grumbled, and his voice traveled across the entire palace. Immediately, multiple people rushed in through the golden gate, kneeling in front of Zeus. Despite seeing them, Zeus only frowned.

"My king. I have found a way to brighten up your day!" The first to rise was Enyo, the goddess of war and destruction. She walked forward and clapped her hands, as maids rushed inside, each of them holding a prisoner with them. "These are evil gods who have been trying to overthrow Heaven! I thought that seeing their execution would be fascinating for you, my lord!"

Zeus scanned the prisoners one by one, seeing the fear hidden within their eyes. Blood and death - it had been so exciting before, yet now it brought nothing but revulsion. "Pass."

Enyo sighed but promptly directed the maids to remove the prisoners. Then, she walked back and kneeled together with all the other gods. The second person to rise was Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.

"Lord Zeus, had it not been long since we have enjoyed the moon together?" Aphrodite removed her upper gown, revealing her perfect body. "Would this not lift your mood?"

Zeus remained indifferent. He had enjoyed the company of the most beautiful women in existence, yet even that no longer brought him any pleasure. With a sigh, Zeus said. "Pass."

Aphrodite looked stunned for a moment before she put her clothes back up and promptly kneeled again. The third god to stand was Hermes, someone who Zeus didn't expect to act at all, for he was cunning and mischievous.

Putting his hands into his pocket, Hermes took out a flute. "If not music, then what could bring more joy?"

"Pass," Zeus answered without a hint of hesitation, for music had long ago grown dull to him. Hermes smiled and went back to the line, kneeling. Not a single god stood up again, for they already knew that their actions would bear no fruit. It has been a long ago since Zeus expressed his boredom, and nothing brought him any joy at all.

Sighing, Zeus closed his eyes. Since when had he become so numb? Zeus remembered the good old days with his brothers, trying to overthrow and kill Kronos. Those moments when Zeus felt like his life was on the line and when victory was nothing but a prophecy brought him the most happiness.

Yet, now, Zeus couldn't experience the same thing. He was the strongest of all, and his position was solidified. No one would even dare to try going against him unless they wanted to meet an early death.

Opening his eyes, Zeus grumbled. "Brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, I don't believe myself qualified to hold this position any longer. After some deliberation, I have decided to retire."

His words caused an uproar, as all the gods rose to their feet and started shouting in protest.

"My lord, you can't do this! You are the strongest, so you shall rule everyone else!"

"Please reconsider, Lord Zeus. I will come to your room thrice a day if you request!"

"Brother, you can't do this."

Zeus raised his hand into the air, and everyone calmed down, letting him continue. "This is a decision that nobody can change. In fact, I have chosen to not only step out from this position, but from being the god at all. I will strip away my power, divinity, and authority, forcing myself into the mortal cycle of reincarnation."

This time, instead of chaos, silence settled within the castle. Everyone was stunned, for it was novel for a god to desire to become mortal. It was unheard of.

Poseidon came forward. "Brother, why are you doing this? If you are bored right now, what will change when you become a mortal? Please reconsider."

"Poseidon, my dear brother, a lot of things will change. What I seek is the thrill and happiness of uncertainty and the perception of evolving. However, such a thing is impossible as of right now, that's why I need to descend to the mortal world as completely powerless." Zeus concluded, staring deeply into his brother's eyes. "If I can't once again become the king of gods, then I was never fit for this position in the first place."

"Lord Zeus...please consider another choice." Athena pleaded with her hands together. "Your disappearance will cause a lot of unprecedented issues."

"Then deal with them. You are all gods." Zeus answered with a more hasty tone, causing thunder to start rumbling in the sky. "I don't know what destiny has in its hands, but my decision is final. Shall we meet again or shall we not, that will depend on my own abilities."

Then, Zeus ripped his own heart, removing and letting free all the authorities that he had gathered during his lifetime. Divinity seeped out of him, as gods remained to watch with horror. Zeus dispelled all his accumulated power, letting it run wild and merge with the universe.

When he was done, only a tiny bit of seed of divinity was left within his soul, for it was engraved and couldn't be removed. Looking over the horizon one last time, Zeus smiled and ripped his heart.

'Finally, I am going to be free from all your fucking pestering.' Zeus thought, his formal and respectful tone gone. 'I grew fucking tired of all this bullshit.'
