2 Chapter 2: The best way to be woken up

What is the best way to be woken up? The sweet scent of freshly baked bread from Grandpa Pan's bakery? The mouthwatering aroma of just made rice cakes from Aunt Amai's shop? Or the gentle rays of the warm sun, caressing your face with its warm touch in the chill of winter? It's difficult to say but for little Shin, it was easy enough to answer. "Wake up Shin" a gentle hand shook him awake as he reluctantly opened his eyes, he was a black haired woman with a round face and brown eyes, with pink lips that parted with the biggest smile he had ever seen. "Happy birthday Shin!" The woman jubilantly cried while presenting him with a tight hug. "Mom!" Shin cried in protest "You're smothering me, I can't breathe agh! N-no breath!" He cried before went limp. The mother let him go and he fell onto his bed "Oh no!" she cried "Oh my poor baby! Oh… no! Guess I'll just have to shock you awake! btzz" She exclaimed before tickling him as he cried with laughter begging to stop "Dad! Help! Help me! Hahhaha stop! DAAAD!"

It seemed that his cries were heard as the bedroom door burst open and a man with a full black beard but a shiny head burst into the room while wearing a white clock "Don't worry Little Shin! I'll save you! Away you demon!" He cried before tackling the woman to the bed and now the poor woman faced the twin assault of the father son duo. It was a lively morning in the Hirano Household with the sounds of laughter flowing into the ears of every passerby as they shook their heads with a gentle smile.

The neighbours were already used to this commotion. The Hirano couple was blessed with a child after 10 years of marriage and that too with a brilliant and lively boy. The whole street knew of this lovely family that were all but picture perfect, all except the bald head of Mr. Hirano that is. In fact many men considered Mr. Hiraon in high regard, always asking him for tips on how he could ever get Mrs. Hirano to marry him but in the end they had eventually chalked it up to luck.

Inside the house on the table lay a wide assortment of delicacies. "Ah Shin, don't just start with the Mochi cake. You need to eat other things too if you want to grow up fast" Mrs. Hirano scolded while putting omelette onto his plate. "But mom! I don't like eggs! Can I atleast eat this on my birthday?" Mrs. Hirano's heart soon melted at the sight of her son's big puppy eyes that somehow seemed to have stars in them, however she knew she had to be tough on him even if she didn't want to, it was for his own good. In the end she came to a decision and looked at her husband for help.

Mr. Hirano saw her reluctance and decided to help her out "Come now Shin, you can't just eat sweets all the time or else how will you grow up strong like me hm?".

"Oh come on, he can eat what he wants on his birthday and he is already tall for his age!" Mrs. Hirano scolded his dumbstruck husband as she smiled to her son "Alright, no egg but just for today ok?". "Yay! Thank you mom! I love you!" She hugged her son while smiling triumphantly at his husband's gawking face as he came to a realisation 'She played me!'

...….

After an hour of constant battle for the love of their child, Mr & Mrs. Hirano left the house with their son. Mr. Hirano had a small weapons shop in the commercial district. It wasn't anything fancy and the market was competitive but after almost 15 years, he had made a name for himself among the ninja for being trusty after all a good weapon often meant the difference between life and death for the ninja and being able to buy weapons without the need to worry was a relief they were willing to pay extra for and that is how Mr. Hirano made his living.

Mrs. Hirano mostly stayed at home but today she wanted to meet with her friends for a gettogether. Usually she would leave her son at Aunt Amai's Shop but since today was his birthday she decided to let him wander, afterall there was no danger inside the village and he was already 4 years old and much smarter than other kids his age. He had already memorised the entire alphabet and could read fluently, something she was keen on repeating every time she met her friends. Afterall Kami had blessed her with a wonderful son, it would be an insult against Him if she didn't show off a bit.

After leaving the house, Mr & Mrs. Hirano went their own way and Shin started to wander with a pocket full of birthday money. It had been 4 years since he was reincarnated into this world. He was born into a civilian family, his father and mother both failed the Jonin test but while his father decided to pursue business his mother stayed with the genin reserve for a few years before she met Mr. Hirano and they ended up married so she retired. One might be bummed out about not being born into one of the op clans but he considered himself lucky to end up with such a loving family afterall you could always end up in root, or worse; with Orochimaru.

Even though his family history didn't fill him with hope about his future as a ninja, the worst thing was actually his system. It had explicitly mentioned that there would be no quests, hence no rewards, no shops to buy skills and weapons from and not level up rewards. All he got was;

Yup, all his mighty Realm Lord System could do was cast 'Observe'. It didn't give any personal history or details either, though to be fair the title was quite helpful, he did find a few spies from sand, stone and cloud. Some of the spies were disguised as merchants while others were travellers, some were even shop owners! Naturally he couldn't rat them out without ending up being mind-ducked by a Yamanaka even though it was not very likely. Why, you ask? Shin looked at the Hokage mountain, specifically the Fourth Hokage. 'Yup, he's still alive and knowing him, he would rather believe me than have a Yamanaka have his way with me'.

Shin sighed as he walked around, exploring and memorising every path all the while staying away from the shady part of town which he could only do if he knew where it was. He walked the bustling streets of the village, taking in sights from this legendary village, soaking in the chakra that filled the air(allegedly). After roaming around for a while he went towards one of the many parks that existed in Konoha. He did some stretching, loosening up his joints, before grabbing a hand full of stones and throwing them at a tree. He had been doing this for a few months now, since there was no danger inside the village, parents often let their children roam around without worry and that meant that he had a lot of time to practice.

Thak stone after stone flew from his hand and hit dead center of the tree, he had all but mastered this skill, being able to accurately throw from a distance of 10 meters. His constant practice had been rewarded by the system in the form of complete non-acknowledgement. It didn't register at all!

After his practice, he ran around the playground in laps before doing as many pushups as he could muster which was now a staggering number of 6! He sighed for the nth time at his miserable ability before sitting under a tree to rest and muttering "Status"

'Pitiful' he sighed again, even though he had no memory of any previous life he still remembered all those novels with 5 year olds that could match genins and 10 year olds that could kill Jonins and 13 year olds that could kill Orochimaru! 'Guess this isn't one of those stories huh… sigh'

Shin decided it was enough workout for now and ran back home, his mother should be home by now.
