11 Chapter 11:Academy 3
For the past three months, Ken focused on mastering chakra control and physical exercises.
He could now stick five leaves on his head for a full hour. Normally, it should have taken him less than three months to learn it. But as he used his chakra continuously and as time passed, his chakra reserves also started growing making it harder to do the exercise.
As for his physical training, Mukai had deemed his physical strength growth 'barely acceptable' to start training with the basic taijutsu katas of the Sarutobi clan.
However, Ken believed his stamina had increased by quite a bit along with his speed and strength.
Right now, Hiruzen and Ken were in the training grounds where Hiruzen was telling Ken about the academy three jutsus which Ken already knew but he had to feign ignorance. He was a four year old kid afterall who had just started training as a ninja.
"I have told you about all the different hand signs. Now it's time for you to learn the basic jutsus."
"These basics jutsus are expected from you to be graduated from the academy. These are Substitution jutsu, clone jutsu, and transformation jutsu." Hiruzen said
Ken was excited to learn the substitution jutsu. He found it to be underused in the anime since it had a lot of potential.
But all his excitement was shattered when Hiruzen explained what the substitution jutsu is.
Substitution Jutsu isn't a space-time Jutsu like Sasuke's Rinnegan Space-Time Swap or Minato's Flying Thunder God. To put it very simply, Substitution Jutsu is just running away really quickly and leaving something behind just to troll someone into believing they hit something.
'Here I believed I could use it like Sasuke's rinnegan's ability.' Ken was frustrated at having his hopes shattered by this jutsu.
Hiruzen did not notice his expression as he continued explaining more about the jutsu.
"This jutsu is based on your speed and how trained your opponent is. You'd never see an Academy Student use a proper Substitution Jutsu on a Jonin in combat because the Jonin is a hundred times faster and more perceptive than the Academy Student."
"If an enemy was to throw a kunai knife you could easily get out of the way, but then the enemy would know you dodged it and keep their guard up. What the Substitution Jutsu does is that you place say a log in front of the kunai knife and run away to hide in the trees nearby. This creates something solid for the kunai knife to hit, that solid thing will fall to the ground much like an injured body so for at least a second the enemy believes he's got you, he'll soon realize it's a log or something but it gives you a second to start running or a second to launch an attack from the shadows."
Hiruzen finished his explanation as Ken started asking questions about the jutsu.
"How does it decide what you get substituted for?"
"You decide, based on what's in the surrounding area. Since most battles take place in the forest, usually shinobi will grab a log from the surrounding area and place it in front of the technique. It's possible to even place an animal there or to place another human being if they're not paying attention. A log is just more convincing because it's around the same size as a human torso and the thumping sound resembles that which a body would make."
"How far does it extend?"
"Depends on how fast you can run and how slow your enemy is at perceiving your movements. "
"Can you substitute a person for a pebble?"
"You can, would it be effective? No. A normal man can see the difference between a human body dropping to the ground and a pebble falling to earth. The log is used because it resembles a human body and is easy to carry. Can you substitute with a whole house? No way. If you just lifted a whole house off its foundation and carried it to the battlefield A) literally everyone will notice and B) stop being a bad kid and put the poor guy's house back."

'So, basically, Substitution Jutsu is dodging and hiding while you troll the enemy at the same time. Enemy attacks. They hit a log. They think they got you. You pop out from behind them. There's no space-time jutsu, it's just very quick feet and hands.' Ken thought
"Next up is clone jutsu. Using this jutsu, one can create one or more afterimages of themselves to move alongside them. Unlike most other clone techniques, these afterimages have no substance and thus are incapable of damaging opponents. Because of this, it is only useful for distracting enemies while you prepare another attack. Opponents can identify clones from their original through careful observation, as clones won't crush grass, kick up dust, etc. It's a very basic form of Genjutsu too." Hiruzen explained the clone jutsu
'Another useless jutsu. Wish I could learn the shadow clone jutsu. With my massive chakra reserves, I should be able to use it. Though, I doubt I would be able to create even one-tenth of the number of clones that Naruto can create.'
"Now the final jutsu is transformation jutsu."
'Ah, the Jutsu that would later be the foundation for the jutsu to have made even Kaguya bleed. The legendary sexy Jutsu.' Ken thought
