"Why am I not surprised?" Naruto ground out as he leaned back against the wooden pole, staring at the sky above.

Here he was with Sasuke and Sakura at the Third Training Ground. The place where Team Seven had officially formed. And the place where Kakashi-sensei had told them they'd be meeting today.

As per usual, it was well over an hour past when he said they'd meet, and the man was nowhere in sight.

"How is this fair!? He tells us to meet him and keeps us waiting every day!" Sakura yelled in frustration. Sasuke meanwhile remained silent as he leaned against one of the three logs sticking up from the ground.

Naruto was glad to see that a night at home seemed to have done Sakura some good. She seemed to be back to her energetic old self for the most part. He'd been worrying about her.

"I wish he didn't have us meet in different places every time. Then I could set something up to get back at him for leaving us hanging," Naruto growled, crossing his arms before he grinned at Sakura. "Say, think he'd agree if we invited him for ramen or something? I bet I could come up with something good if I put my mind to it."

"I wouldn't try it," Sakura answered back. "After seeing what he's like in the field... I get the feeling he was just humoring us with that eraser thing. I doubt he'd really fall for something like that..."

Naruto clicked his tongue. "Yeah, you're probably right..."

"Ugh, next time I'm bringing a book or something," Sakura growled, hands on her hips as she began to tap her foot.

"Well, isn't that a coincidence? I happen to have brought a few books for you." Kakashi's voice rang out, causing the genin to look to the river behind them. Kakashi appeared in a burst of smoke, giving them his eye smile and a wave. "Sorry I'm late; I had to help a kid find his lost pet."

"Your excuses suck, sensei." Naruto deadpanned while Sakura raised a trembling fist in the silver-haired man's direction. Then what he said clicked, and she was caught flatfooted.

"Wait, you've got a book for me?" She asked, looking at him in confusion.

"Among other things," Kakashi replied as his sole visible eye roamed over his students. "I feel I may have taken a bit too much of a laissez-faire approach to training you..." His gaze settled on Naruto. "In all honestly, I should have taught you the tree climbing exercise, and more, quite a bit before we took that mission to Wave." He then eye-smiled again and pulled out a small sheet of paper, holding it between two fingers. "So, from here on out, we'll be taking fewer missions and doing more training."

"Um, Kakashi-sensei? What's that?" Sakura asked, clearly as lost as he was on what a sheet of paper would do for them.

"Oh, this? This is known as Chakra Induction Paper." Kakashi told them. "It's used to test one's elemental affinity. While you can learn how to use any element, everyone has one they have a natural inclination for. That one will be more powerful and easier for them to use. All you have to do is channel your chakra into this paper." And at that moment, the paper suddenly crinkled in his hand. "And voila. How it reacts tells you the holder's affinity. Mine's lightning, so the paper wrinkles. With the water element, it gets wet. Fire, it burns to ash. Earth it turns to dirt, and with wind, it'll split in two."

"Cool! So you're going to use that to figure out what kind of jutsu to teach us!?" Naruto asked excitedly. That more than made up for him being late.

"That's correct," Kakashi affirmed, giving Naruto a nod. "Also, something you might find interesting. To be eligible for the jonin rank, you need to have mastered at least two elements. It might seem distant now, but it's something to bear in mind if you don't plan to remain a chunin."

In his hand, he held several sheets of chakra paper. "You're going to channel your chakra into these. Depending on your affinity, your chakra will interact with the paper differently." He demonstrated by channeling his own chakra into the paper, causing it to crinkle. "As you see, my affinity is lightning, hence the paper crinkles. If your chakra is fire-natured, it will burn the paper to ash. Water will dampen it, earth will convert it to dirt, and wind will tear it in two."

"Let's start. And just for safety, we'll also test Sasuke's affinity."

A hint of confusion crossed Naruto's face. "Why? Don't we already know Sasuke's element?"

Kakashi shook his head. "No, we know Sasuke can use fire jutsu. But like myself, shinobi can use jutsu from all elements, despite having only one affinity. In my case, it's lightning. It's easier to learn and use jutsu from your affinity, and few shinobi truly master more than two elements. I can use multiple elements because I've copied various jutsu. Remember, I'm known as 'the man who copied a 1000 jutsu.'" He finished his explanation with an eye-smile, reminding them of his stature as one of the village's strongest jonin.

He continued, "The Uchiha clan takes pride in their fire affinity and teaches their members to use it. They even use the Fireball technique as a rite of passage. So, Sasuke, did they ever test your affinity?" Sasuke glared but remained silent. Kakashi handed a slip of paper to Sakura. "Ladies first."

Sakura infused the paper with her chakra. Almost instantly, it crumbled to dust. "So, my element is earth?"

"Mm-hmm," Kakashi hummed. "The earth element can harden and strengthen anything you channel it into. You can also manipulate earth and mud and move through it in various ways." He passed a slip to Sasuke with an eye-smile. "Like when I buried Sasuke up to his neck."

Sasuke glared at Kakashi, taking his piece of paper. When he channeled his chakra into it, to his shock, the paper crinkled. "What?"

"Interesting. You don't have a fire affinity, after all," Kakashi noted.

Sasuke looked at the paper, astonished. "But...my entire clan has the fire element..."

Kakashi shrugged. "Clans aren't entirely consistent with affinities, unless they possess an elemental bloodline. You're an exception, it seems."

Naruto sniggered. "Too bad, Sasuke. Looks like you're the odd one out." Sasuke shot Naruto a deathly glare.

"Now, Naruto, your turn," Kakashi directed.

"Finally!" Naruto said, grabbing the chakra paper. As he channeled his chakra into it, it became damp. Then, to everyone's astonishment, the damp paper crinkled, split in half, and one half burned to ash, while the other crumbled into dust.

Kakashi's brows furrowed. "That's unusual."

"Kakashi-sensei, I thought you said it's rare for anyone to have more than one affinity." Sakura voiced out her confusion.

"Hmm… well, this certainly is proof that Naruto's Rinnegan is genuine," Kakashi mused.

"What do you mean?" Naruto questioned, intrigued.

"The Rinnegan is said to grant its wielder the ability to master all five elements and virtually any jutsu, barring those that require specific bloodlines. It seems that includes having all the affinities," Kakashi explained.

Naruto's eyes widened with excitement. "So, I can learn all the elements?"

Sasuke's glare deepened as he watched Naruto, another example of the Jinchuriki's growing power glaringly apparent.

Kakashi nodded, confirming Naruto's question. "Yes, you can. However, remember that it will take time. Mastery doesn't come overnight, Naruto. You'll need to be patient and diligent in your training."

Naruto's determination shone in his eyes. This was another challenge he was ready to undertake. After all, he was Naruto Uzumaki, the future Hokage of Konoha, and he would stop at nothing to reach his goal.
