History of the Sharingan and its abilities part 1

The Sharingan, literally Revolving Copying Eye is one of the three great Dōjutsu along with the Byakugan and Rinnegan.

He is the Kekkei Genkai of the Uchiha clan, selectively appearing among its members.

A lower version of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's Rinne Sharingan, the Sharingan first manifested in Indra Ōtsutsuki.

In the anime he first manifested in Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki.

According to Tobirama Senju, the Sharingan is the eye that reflects the heart.

This dōjutsu is not obtained at birth, as inheriting the Sharingan is rare, even among members of the Uchiha Clan itself.

Instead, it is activated when an Uchiha experiences intense emotions after experiencing loss of love or despair, causing a certain chakra to erupt in their brain that affects the optic nerve, and causes a change in their eyes.

That is the eye that reflects feelings: the Sharingan. After the first time this Kekkei Genkai is used, the person can use it whenever they want.

There are other cases, like Sasuke Uchiha, who could use the Sharingan since he was a child, but he forgot and couldn't use it until he knew he had it.

After its first appearance, the user can use the Sharingan at any time they please.

It is also possible to transplant the Sharingan from one person to another, as happened in the case of Kakashi Hatake, who received the left Sharingan eye from his partner, Obito Uchiha, after being crushed by a giant rock. Because of this, Kakashi's Sharingan cannot be deactivated, and since the Sharingan's chakra consumption under these conditions is far more tiring than a member of the Uchiha Clan can endure, he covers himself with his headband to conserve chakra.

Due to the same, Kakashi needs to rest for a long period of time after using his Sharingan extensively in a battle.

Similarly, Danzō Shimura had a Sharingan instead of his normal right eye, the one he gained from Shisui Uchiha after stealing it and transplanting it into his right eye, which he kept hidden under bandages.

Danzō also possessed ten Sharingan on his right arm, which is kept closed until needed.

It is also possible to transplant the Sharingan into animals, as Itachi did with Shisui's Sharingan, transplanting it into one of his crows.

One of the main abilities of the Sharingan is to be able to see the Flow of chakra of people and, in this way, to have the ability to know if someone is under a genjutsu, if they have low or high Chakra reserves and also be able to to identify and recognize the color of the chakra of a ninjutsu or a taijutsu, such as the Gentle Fist.
