8 Chapter 8 : The Chunin exam
Three days later, Team Zero was in the examination room for the first Chunin exam test. They were among the first and passed without problem the Genjutsu placed by the Izumo and Kotetsu to confuse the candidates, a genjutsu of a fairly basic level for them.
They had been there for over an hour, there was still 30 minutes left before the test started and they were sitting with their eyes closed practicing their chakra control, It had become automatique exercise as soon as they had a little free time.
Several candidates were already present such as the Suna team and Gaara who had his eyes focused on Obito just like Kabuto who also had his attention on Obito by order of a certain demonic snake.
He focused fully on his goal when he heard some Kusagakure genins talking about Karin and saying that she looked like someone who had lived in their village.
It didn't even bother Obito a little because Kusa was really a small village that he himself could wipe out at the level he had now. Furthermore, Karin had been missing for over 5 years in a fatal fire, she had died there and recognizing her with certainty now would be quite difficult given the physical differences.
Suddenly, a big commotion took place behind and it was Naruto who entered with his team but also Lee's, he looked at everyone in the room and was surprised by the number of people and the faces he didn't know.
"LISTEN TO ME EVERYONE, I'M Uzumaki NARUTO AND I'M NOT GOING TO LOSE TO ANY OF YOU BASTARDS" Naruto said confidently and everyone else looked at him angrily, some Konoha genin looked at him with contempt but others who knew his talents were attentive, this was the case of Kabuto and Gaara's team.
Sasuke and Sakura were embarrassed by Naruto's manners who noticed Hinata and came closer to her smiling to greet her and praise her fragrance , this made Hinata laugh while Neji narrowed his eyes looking at the scene.
Kabuto approached them to introduce himself and show his ninja information cards.
"Obito Uzumaki, I want to see his card and information if possible..." Neji asked while smiling, Kabuto took out a card with an Obito's picture on it.
Information about him was very poor, he was an extremely competent genius in all areas and had reached the rank of Genin at the age of 7, since then he has carried out no less than 300 different missions in 5 and a half years.
There were no special Jutsu marked in his assets but just basic Jutsu taught at the academy. "Very competent in taijutsu, Ninjutsu, genjutsu, he is also a Sensory Ninja." was notably what was marked without specific details.
Naruto read that and had an amused smile on his lips, he knew that his brother had a good number of techniques in his arsenal and the fuuton techniques that he mastered he had learned from Hiruzen himself .
Obito always only used what was necessary, no unnecessary techniques because the majority of his operations only required his basic skills, which is why information about him was limited.
This lack of information frustrated the others, they looked at Karin and Yakumo's cards but also didn't learn much, there were question marks almost everywhere except for the basic techniques.
Kabuto told them about the few shinobi villages represented in the room by their candidates and called Oto a small village of a minor nation which ended with an attack from Dosu who targeted Kabuto with his Sound Amplifier Gauntlet but at a frightening speed, Lee had already pinned him to the ground with an armlock to lock Dosu's hand which to his shock could no longer move.
"I remind you that the exam has not officially started and attacking the other candidates without the agreement of the supervisors is considered outside the exam and therefore an open attack against the ninja and his village. Are you sure that Oto is capable of assuming the consequences of your actions against Konoha ?" Lee asked as several people in the room were impressed by him and at the same time in a cloud of smoke, Ibiki and all the support staff appeared, he congratulated Lee who released Dosu and Ibiki gave a adequate warning to everyone regarding attacks outside the tests before listing the rules of the exam.
The first test was a written test which delighted Obito as much as Naruto who was far from being a dunce in this reality. The written test started and all the questions were easy for Obito like a walk in a park except the last box where there were no questions.
Naruto his brother, also looked carefree in front of his paper, just like Karin and Yakumo. The proctors spotted several cheaters and permanently eliminated them from the Chunin exam.
Cheating was not prohibited, but being caught a certain number of times meant permanent elimination from the exam.
Things continued like this until Ibiki added a rule for the last question: those who choose to answer it without giving the correct answer will be banned from this exam forever but those who choose to give up this time will be able to present for the next exam.
This rule caused a lot of noise in the room and several participants protested the indifference of Ibiki who pointed out that those who would like to give up in the hope of returning soon must do so now or never again.
Several candidates and their groups gave up to leave but Naruto was the worthy reincarnation of Asura made a speech that galvanized several other candidates to convince them to stay and once that was done, Ibiki announced that those who remained had officially passed the first test of the exam to the great surprise of everyone before giving his explanations about this last question.
His explanations spoke of the skills that a ninja must have first in his ability to collect information and then not to break under pressure or torture.
He was about to finish his speech when Mitarashi Anko, the officer in charge of the second test, came rushing through the window with a large black flag.
She introduced herself loudly and immediately asked the candidates to follow her as the atmosphere became awkward.
Noting that there were still 81 candidates, Anko complained that Ibiki had been too lenient and would ensure that only half of the candidates remained at the end of the second round.
When they left, Obito and Naruto crossed paths but neither spoke to the other, Hinata who was near Naruto made this remark to him and he replied that it was because of the 'exam. They had made a pact not to act like brothers but competitors and that if they clashed, they would have to fight seriously.
The next exam location was a place Obito knew inside out, Training Ground 44 also called the Forest of Death.
Although normally forbidden to genins for training, Obito had been coming there to train and face extremely dangerous beasts since he was 7 years old with Naruto sometimes so this place he knew every corner of it.
Anko introduced the survival test for capturing scrolls and began to list the rules regarding this test.
For one reason, she had her eyes mostly on Obito but it was not only her but also several other candidates for one simple reason, although they could see it, Obito had completely erased his presence and it seriously disturbed the others knowing the ordeal to come.
The distribution of scrolls began, team Zero received the Earth scroll and they entered through door 17, they had to take the Heaven scroll from another team before joining the tower in the center of the field 10km from the entry and they had 5 days for that. Knowing their skills, this test was ridiculously easy and they had no desire to waste their time.
"Karin...? " he barely asked before Karin told him the location of the closest team a little over a kilometer from their position, she used Kagura's mental eye as soon as they entered the forest and was just waiting for Obito to ask her to give him the report.
They wasted no time and headed towards them at high speed, their targets were close fortunately so they had no difficulty finding them in 9 minutes, Kagura's mind eye was a terribly frightening ability.
The team of ninjas they found were ninjas from the land of grass and they were the ones Obito listened to in the room of the first test.
The Kusa ninjas had set up a small temporary camp to make a plan, they had 5 days to complete the task but before they knew it, Team Zero was already there, watching them from atop a tree branch.
They listened to their conversation and apparently these guys had to get a Earth scroll which meant they had the Heaven scroll.
"I'll take care of them..." Karin said and received Obito's agreement before disappearing by Shunshin.
Suddenly, where the Kusa ninjas were, a smoke bomb exploded but before these guys even reacted, Karin was already among them. She sent a high-kick to the first who was directly knocked out by Karin's terrifying strength, the second ninja took a violent elbow which sent him to the ground and the last one jumped from there to get out of the cloud of smoke but a kunai thrown by Karin pierced the palm of his hand and fixed him on the trunk of a nearby tree.
In such a short time, she had neutralized the three Kusa genins and it was normal given the hellish training they all practice.
Obito had planted a seed of revolt against all kinds of weaknesses in them, what had happened to their clan would never be repeated and they were going to be even stronger and more frightening than previous generations.
Without counting the revenge that they will one day take on the villages of the great elemental nations, she trained without restraint for Obito with whom she was in love, for herself but also for her poor mother who had been reduced to the stage of medical slave by Kusa.
This must never happen again and for that, she must become strong, stronger than her imagination allows.
With his hand fixed on the tree by Karin's kunai, the Kusa genin wanted to speak but Karin mercilessly slapped him with the back of her hand before speaking to him.
"Where is your team's scroll ? I'm gonna kill you the second you talk to me about one thing outside of this..." She said coldly as she took out a second Kunai with which she planted her second hand on the tree making the enemy immediately scream in pain .
Seeing that his teammates were completely stunned and that she would not hesitate to kill him given the strange hatred she had in her eyes, the ninja told her that the Earth scroll was at the back in his ninja bag.
Karin searched it and indeed found the parchment, she took it before just leaving without saying anything to her victim who remained with eyes full of fear.
She had a fierce hatred against the people of Kusa for the mistreatment she and her mother received there, she would have killed them without a problem but it was just an exam, killing was not necessary and she had other priorities.
"Well done, now let's head towards the tower and relax while we wait for the next part of this exam..." Obito congratulated her and they disappeared from there.
They were the first team to arrive at the tower with a shocking record of 54 minutes after the start of the test, this seriously shocked Anko and the other supervisors, Team Zero had the reputation of being the strongest Genin and they proved it without difficulty.
