Chapter 6! Lingering Gaze!

Jonathan looked on worriedly as his wife's expression turned ugly, he could feel her anger even though he was not close enough to her and Kimberley. He couldn't help wiping a nonexistent sweat from his forehead as his wife's threat still lingered in his mind. Knowing fully well that Trudy isn't one to take back her word, his legs moved on their own as he found himself standing behind Trudy all of a sudden.

An angry but suppressed voice welcomed him the moment he got close enough to hear what they were saying.

"Kimberley Price, you owe us nothing. Don't try to patronise me. We are your parents. Let us be the ones to take care of you. You don't need to sacrifice yourself like this dear."

With a deep sigh, Trudy turned to Jonathan with bloodshot eyes "John, we declare bankruptcy this instance. Sell Price Pharmaceuticals to the highest bidder if you want, but please get the burden off my daughter's shoulders. She deserves happiness like every other girl."

Without being told twice, Jonathan Price fished for his mobile phone and began making preparations for a statement and a sell-out of Price Pharmaceuticals.

Kimberley stared at her father who was hurrying to do his wife's bidding in horror and felt despair in her heart. Price Pharmaceuticals is her blood and sweat also.

The company never had a lack of new and potent drugs with Kimberley leading the team, there was nothing they couldn't do. Kimberley only knew that making drugs was her forte, but what she didn't know is that her special ability lies in making drugs. The company is still not worth a lot because they never aim for profit maximization but only seek to produce drugs to cater for all classes of people.

Realising that things were going out of hand, Kimberley blurted out an excuse that came to her as if someone whispered into her ear "Jeremy Pope is the young boy who saved me at the El Dorado Nature Centre twelve years ago. I accidentally found out tonight while having a casual talk about our childhood.

Mom, only you, dad and I are aware of that incident apart from the young boy." Kimberley took a few steps towards her mother who created a distance between them in her fit of anger. Trudy stared at her daughter and saw a known expression of seriousness on her face. Her heart skipped a beat when she realised her daughter may have been telling the truth just now. Wait, what does that matter?

Keeping her gaze on her daughter, Trudy looked long and hard at her Kimberley before asking in a trembling voice "so you want to sell yourself because you found your saviour from long ago? What difference does it make whether he saved you or he is just a regular guy out there? Why not thank him sincerely and move on Kim?"

Taking a further step towards her mother, Kimberley reached for her hands and squeezed them in hers while staring at the middle-aged woman before her. She always felt so loved that she wished never to leave her parents if it was possible. Other parents will gladly give their daughters to Jeremy Pope without as much as blinking their eyes, but her parents were different. They love her so much sometimes she wonders how many good deeds she did in her past life to be born as the daughter of John and Judy Price.

The thought of her parents' love filled her with so much warmth that her body emitted enough positive energy to further calm the tense atmosphere. Jonathan walked over at this moment, seeing the warm smile on his daughter's beautiful face, he felt so fulfilled he hugged his wife from behind and said "why don't we talk about the garden"

Trudy was led out by her husband and daughter towards the back of the mansion where a magnificent garden lay. The same place Kimberley spent her time stargazing earlier.

Walking towards the further right corner of the garden, they all took a sit around a bamboo table under a summer hut at the centre of the mini garden.

The mini garden can boast of various medicinal plants, flowers and some herbs that even Jonathan, a botanist by profession could not recognise. Unbeknownst to the couple, a combination of all those flowers and herbs is what has been keeping them exceptionally calm whenever they make a trip to the garden.

Kimberley sat between her mom and dad while snaking her arms across their backs. Placing her head on her dad's shoulder, the family of three was oblivious to the presence of a certain seer who was able to probe their house with mental energy.

Jeremy Pope felt the fluctuations in Kimberley's emotions when she saw her dad attempt to place the company up for sale. He was also the one who suggested the El Dorado Nature Centre incident to Kimberley. Even though Jeremy felt mentally exhausted after probing the house earlier, he was feeling so relaxed and refreshed at the moment due to the abundance of positive energy being dispelled by Kimberley.

Feeling a lingering gaze on them, Kimberley turned around in hopes of dismissing any approaching servants but found none around. Kimberley could swear someone was watching them just now but couldn't find anyone thereby retracting her gaze swiftly so as not to ruin the mood.

"Twelve years ago, I swore to spend the rest of my life with the person who courageously rescued me from the situation I found myself in." Kimberley broke the silence with her confession. She continued to explain her decision "I would have died if not for him, so when I saw the same person proposing to help the company tide through these trying times, I couldn't believe my ears.

Mom, dad he wants me to marry him because he has also loved me since the incident in the woods. He wants me to do the same thing I've been longing for since I was ten."

Looking sideways lovingly to register her parents' response, Kimberley blurted out a name she never thought would sound so heavy on her tongue. "I thought Ariel was the one who saved me, so I was very proactive in our relationship until he stabbed me in the back. Then again, I need to thank him for bringing me this sudden happiness." She paused for a moment and continued speaking, while still feeling the burning gaze on her, this time with a passion she could not explain.

"Please be happy for me mom, I know what I'm doing. I would never put myself in harm's way, mom. I love you too much to hurt your feelings. Please trust me one more time because I need your unconditional support once more"

Kimberley said in a pleading tone with tears in her eyes. Jonathan and Trudy could not bear to see their precious daughter crying in their arms.

They both hugged her tightly while resolving in their hearts to allow her to pursue her happiness.
