Chapter 38

Gabriel

I couldn't believe that Freya would brush me off this easily. I was staring at the door from where she had just exited. Dora passed me a sympathetic look.

"Are you okay?"

"I am fine," I replied.

I shut myself in the bathroom and turned the shower to the coldest. Even when Titus was not there Freya would always be siding with him and now when he was here I didn't even want to imagine how she might act.

It was not Freya's fault that she was mated to both of us but at least she could try to be unbiased, towards the both of us. Titus had every right to court her being her mate but I would have preferred if he hadn't returned.

When I walked out into the bedroom it was empty. A knock sounded on the door and Dad entered.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

Why was everyone asking me this question? I agree that the thought of my mate having another mate didn't settle well with me but it didn't mean I needed anyone's sympathy.

"I am fine," I replied when I noticed he was waiting for my answer.

"I was having a notion that we might have got rid of him," Dad said.

"I think God didn't favor us," I said with a roll of my eyes.

"God doesn't favor him either," he retorted, "You have an advantage over him, you have spent more time with Freya and you know her better," he added.

"The couple hours that Freya spent with him are etched in her memory. I am sorry to say it eclipse the number of days I have been with her," I snapped.

I knew I was being bitter but I couldn't help it. I loved Freya and imagining her with any other man was making me want to kill everyone.

"You will need to be very careful now, werewolves are a possessive breed. Titus is an Alpha lethal and possessive is not a good combination," Dad warned.

"I know Dad, I think I can handle him. He could be strong but he won't be stronger than me. Equal yes, but not stronger," I rubbed my hair with the towel to dry them.

Dad settled on the couch and was regarding me intently.

"You don't need to worry about me," I tried to assure him.

"You are my son, of course, I am worried about you," he said.

"That won't change anything, I need to think how I am going to handle this situation," I settled on the couch from across him.

"He might ask you for a duel, to settle it the old way," Dad suggested.

I knew werewolves settled this kind of situation with a duel it was the old way. If a she-wolf had two mates they will duel and whoever won would get the girl. Dad was right there was a possibility that Titus might ask for a duel. He was a wolf after all and would want to settle this according to their laws.

"What could be the odds?" I asked.

"I have not seen him fight but I know how good you are. If Titus is as good as they say then there are equal chances that anyone of you might win," he replied.

Titus was strong, I had heard about him a lot. He was considered one of the strongest wolves of all times. He had traveled across the whole world and I am sure he might have come across a great number of dangers.

"I need to see Freya," I said and stood up.

"Make sure you don't leave her alone with him for long. He might even mark her," Dad instructed.

"I don't think, Freya will allow him to mark her," but I couldn't rule out the possibility completely.

"He is an Alpha his wolf would be impatient to mark her. I have seen the shape he was in when he came. From what it looked his father was holding him prisoner. He has fresh scars and wounds all over his body. His friend is battling for his life," Dad said getting up from the couch.

Was Titus's, Dad, so much against him mating with Freya that he was willing to kill his son? I didn't like Titus, but his respect increased in my eyes after finding that he hadn't abandoned Freya.

"Do you think his struggle might make him a hero in Freya's eyes?" I questioned.

"There surely is a possibility that she might hold a soft spot for him after knowing what he might have been through for her," he answered.

"Dinara had a certain idea about this and she had told me to hurry with the engagement and marriage before Titus frees himself, guess we are late," Dad raked his hair with his hand.

"Dinara or you can't change my destiny. I will have to handle this myself," I said.

I walked out of the bedroom into the corridor and then down the stairs. The living room was deserted, I guess everyone would be in the pack clinic looking after Titus.

I headed to the clinic and noticed many wolves watching my every movement. I knew they were wary because of the presence of Vampires between them. They were right to do that, Vampires couldn't be trusted. We were cunning unlike the wolves, they were impulsive.

A few pups were running here and there near the packhouse. I passed it and sensed many gazes following me. Even if I was mated to the daughter of their Alpha I couldn't expect the same amount of respect they would give to Titus.

If Dad was right and Titus asked for a duel to settle this matter I was sure that I won't have anyone cheering me apart from my father and Freya's parents.

One thing that I was thinking was if Titus's father banished him from the pack he would become a rogue and would have a chance to join Freya's pack. In the absence of the male child of Alpha Xavier, there was a chance that Titus might become the next Alpha.

I reached the pack clinic and asked a nurse for the direction of the room where Titus was there. When I entered the room I felt that someone stabbed a knife in my heart.
