17 Chapter 17

Freya

I watched in horror the decapitated body of a man on the skin of whose chest the words "HAND OVER THE GIRL" were carved out.

Beside the body was lying the chopped off the head of what would have been my pack member and patrolling guard, Eric. Bile rose in my throat and I stumbled back from the horrifying sight.

Someone got hold of me and I bent holding his hand, throwing up. Eric was nearly my age, we had played together when we were kids. He was one of the few decent pack members who didn't look at me with pity.

After I had emptied my guts, I straightened and looked at the person holding me. Green orbs reflected at me, Gabriel. I should have known, no one else would dare to touch me other than him. I was surprised why no one was attacking him, even though he was a vampire.

"Are you okay?" He asked in a soft voice.

"I don't think so," I replied to him honestly.

"What the hell is going on here?" I heard Dad's alpha voice.

I turned and looked at him, still leaned on Gabriel's arm. Dad and his Beta Greg had appeared from the back of the house. They both must have gone for a run in the woods.

"Someone killed Eric, and threw his body here," a warrior of the pack replied.

Dad and Beta Greg came closer to the body. They scanned Eric's body and I felt for a few seconds Dad's face lost his color.

"Tori, take the body away and inform Eric's parents about his death. The rest of you can go back to your work," Dad ordered and turned and walked away.

Gabriel lifted me in his arms for the second time in an hour and carried me towards the house. I could feel the eyes of all the pack members on me. The moment we entered the living room, I got startled.

Mom was sitting on the couch and crying and Dad was consoling her.

"Xavier, this is it," Mom was saying but when they noticed me and Gabriel, they both fell silent.

"Alpha," Gabriel, gave Dad a curt nod and put me down on my feet.

"Your Highness," Dad replied with a nod.

So this was correct, Gabriel was indeed a Prince and Dad knew him. Why was I the only one here who was not aware of anything?

"Dad, you met Gabriel?" I asked Dad.

"Of course, I met him, Freya. In fact, we discussed a lot of things. I am glad you are home before any misfortune could occur," Dad looked relieved seeing me alright.

"Well.... Dad. it's like Gabriel and I are mates," I said looking at Dad with hope so he might dismiss it.

"Yes, I am aware that it. Gabriel told me and I am glad you have got Gabriel as a mate who cares about you, so much," Dad smiled at Gabriel.

I looked at Dad carefully, he looked so calm. He was not even worried about the fact that I had two mates. How was I going to live with two mates?

One was a werewolf and the other was a Vampire. Both the species hated each other. Though werewolves have sometimes made peace with Vampires it had never lasted long enough.

Vampires needed blood, human blood, and if they didn't get it they survived on the blood of other species. The point here was if Gabriel didn't find blood, then would he drink mine? Heck, what the hell was I thinking but I need to be sure, if we are stuck somewhere and he didn't have any source to get blood, then will Gabriel suck my blood out of my body?

"And you don't have any problem with it?" I asked Dad astonished.

"Why would I have any problem with him, Freya? He is your mate and he will protect you at all costs," Dad replied irritated.

He was not looking pleased with my questions. No one did, but I had a right to express myself and know what the hell was going on around me. I just couldn't sit back and watch and let other people dictate my life. Gabriel might be my mate but I still didn't trust him. How was I supposed to trust a Vampire? I agree he was a very hot Vampire, girls surely would drool over him, but there was still a nagging doubt at the back of my head about him.

"I don't trust him, even though he says he is my mate," I announced.

My parents and Gabriel looked at me startled. They surely might not have expected I would say something like this. I knew I might be annoying the shit out of Gabriel right now because of the way he was glaring at me, but I wanted to know what was going on around here and why everyone was hell-bent on hiding it from me.

"Freya we can talk about it later," Gabriel said through gritted teeth.

"Why later? Why not now? What is everyone hiding from me?" I eyed my parents and Gabriel with suspicion.

"No one is hiding anything from you Freya," Dad replied annoyed.

"It doesn't appear to me like this," I replied huffing," You all have been acting so suspicious since my birthday that I am sure something is wrong with me," I added.

"Some of our enemies have threatened to kill you, but it's nothing about you. They have held a vendetta against me for quite some time now," Dad answered in a gentle tone.

I rolled my eyes and looked at Dad, "Really?"

Do they all take me for a fool? Like I will believe any of their excuses now?

"Freya, your Dad isn't lying. They are threatening to kill you because you are his daughter and they think you held a special power that only your parent's descendant can hold," Gabriel said for the first time in minutes.

"I dont trust your words even for a minute," I shot back at Gabriel.

"Of course, because you trust your stupid mate who has abandoned you and have not even tried to contact you once," Gabriel taunted.

"Titus didn't abandon me," I growled at him.

"Ohh, really? Where is he now?" Gabriel smirked.

"I know he is trying to convince his parents and he will come back to me soon," I lied because somewhere deep down I knew this was not the case.

"Freya, Xander Cresswell called earlier today," Dad said looking at me with concern.

"What did he say?" I asked, but I knew that I was not going to like the answer from Dad's expressions.
