Chapter 5_ Disturbed

"Weeks? I've spent weeks here?" he frowned and Duncan stuffed his chin in nodded.

" Yes, I think two weeks and a day" he replied.

Wow, two weeks?!

How possible was that? The brunette nurse did mention he went into a comatose but he had not assumed it would be for two weeks.

Well, that was gone now. He needed to brood over other things than the number of things he has spent in the hospital.

Duncan held out his candy to him " Here, have a bite" he offered and LSR finally raised his hand better this time and slapped the candy off of Duncan's hand which sent the candy thumping flat on the floor.

Duncan's gaze followed his candy as it drop lazily on the hospital floor then he returned his gaze back to LSR " I hate you now man! What did you do that for?!" he hollered.

" You were about to stuff the gross candy which is now filled with your spit into my damn mouth Duncan. I told you to stop going around with candies like a five year old girl!" LSR hollered back and Duncan removed the hat on his head as if LSR's words were heat and he needed air to pass into his head.

" By the way, what are you wearing?" LSR frowned, scrutinizing his friend's outfit.

He saw Duncan's face brightened as the lad raised his hands up and turned around for LSR to see " This, is the new trend my dear LSR, it is one of the many fashion styles I am yet to teach you. I just discovered this dressing code" Duncan proudly announced.

LSR thought he was not hearing clearly at first.

The new trend?

A beach hat during winter?

Was Duncan even in his right mind?

Well, it seemed as though he was the one not in his right mind because he had actually taken Duncan seriously when he offered to take him on fashion lessons but now, it was clear he was stupid. If Duncan was stupid, he should be tagged the master of stupidity then.

" What do you mean fashion trend?" he asked with a sour look on his face as he sized Duncan up from head to toe " You look like a fucking kindergarten teacher!" he bellowed then, the laughter he was unaware was lying under his throat let loose and for the first time since the accident, no, for the first time in a long time, he laughed so hard that his stomach churned and hurt.

Duncan, obviously unmindful of the subsidizing mocking laughter of LSR's, placed his hat back on his head and threw the candy bag on the floor " I know I look good but you can not understand since you don't take these fashion classes I am taking now "

LSR knew arguing with Duncan was a lost cause, the young man would never listen. " Okay, dear fashion lord. Do they not teach you in your fashion classes to not drop candy bags on the floor?" he asked Duncan with a smirk on his face. It was good having Duncan around. His friend did not need to do anything before being funny. Just a short watch of his actions, then you are certain to laugh your eyes out.

He watched Duncan bent to pick the nylon bag on the floor and.. " I guess it was the hospital that taught you to drop candy bars on the floor then" came his friend's sarcastic reply and again, he burst out laughing.

The protruding buttocks of Duncan crowned with the manner in which his ass bounced with his every step exacerbated LSR's laugh until Duncan got it's and he yelled out as loud as he could shocking LSR and he almost jumped off his sick bed.

" Would you stop your annoying laughter for a second?! LSR with good looks" Duncan yelled, emphasizing the LSR with good looks to hurt his friend the way his laughter was starting to hurt him.

LSR ceased laughing immediately. He hadn't anticipated that reaction from his friend " Ok man, keep it low. You are in a hospital, no shouts" he reminded.

The door gently crept open and a male doctor with transparent prescription glasses stepped in.

Good, Duncan just earned them a piece of scolding. He was sure the doctor was here to reprimand them for shouting in a hospital " Is everything alright?" the doctor who should be in his early forties asked.

He was right, they were in trouble.

" Yes.. Yes it is" he quickly added while Duncan wiped off his candy stained hands on the fabric of his cloth.

Gross!

That boy! He just said those were his trendy fashionable clothes and he was ruining them with melted Candy stains.

Well, if it wasn't Duncan, it could never be Duncan.

" Who are you?" the doctor questioned his friend who stupidly extended his hand forward to the doctor who in turn stared at it with confusion.

What in the hell was the lad doing?!

" He is my friend. He came to cheer me up" LSR quickly added to cover up his friend's gullible action.

The irritation in the doctor's voice was barely hard to " Yeah, well he can go now. Visiting time is over" he sent Duncan off.

Duncan turned to him and winked simultaneously with a click of his mouth " Bye LSR, better be up and running the next time I come" he chuckled sheepishly and walked out.

What in the hell was that cheesy expression?

Did Duncan learn that from his classes too?

Maybe LSR was not totally a loser but Duncan was the one who made him one, LSR thought.

His friend was being unbelievably dense!

The doctor followed Duncan out with his eyes and as soon as Duncan shut the door after them, he returned his gaze back to LSR " How are you feeling now?" he asked casually.

" I've been better" LSR also tried to sound casual.

The doctor nodded and walked closer to him " I am Doctor Jack. The doctor in charge of you. Who removed the collar? Is your neck fine now" Doctor Jack inquired. The man seemed to like to bombard people with questions a lot.

Was that what doctors do?

LSR twisted his neck repeatedly to show the doctor he was fine. He did not want to get the nurse in trouble for listening to him. She was the first young female to do so and maybe that was because she did not know his history and he would appreciate it if she never found out.

" Oh, I see you are getting better now. Or should I say the neck is getting better?" Doctor Jack said and LSR shrugged. He had no idea what the man was implying.

" Now that you are awake.." Doctor Jack continued " I would send the nurses to bring your leg down and after a few days of medical examining, you should be ready to go home. You recovered faster than I anticipated especially since you just woke up from coma" he finished with a smile.

Everyone was smiling at him more. Unlike before, the people in his neighborhood only knew to frown and scorn when they see him but the accident made him see more smiling faces now. That was cool too.

Doctor Jack asked him a few more questions which he provided answers to and soon, he also left.

***

It was already a week and four days since he woke up from his coma and Zakariah had not visited him once. They detectives never failed to drop by day by day to resume their questioning sessions but he noted they hadn't been coming for the past six days now. When he did not see them around anymore, he thanked the heavens for being nice to him for once.

Duncan also do drop by and had always accompanied him during the times he does the daily workouts recommended by the doctor to prompt his recovery.

He was able to sit on wheel chairs now and with it, Duncan or the nurses move him about until he was up to doing it himself.

Currently, he was sitting on the wheel chair in his ward, awaiting the others. Whoever it was that would come get him, it was the day he leaves the hospital.

He would be leaving as a new person, different from the old looser he was before.

He had learnt a lot during the few days he spent here in the hospital and he had seen just how cold his brother could be.

He was even beginning to think that he might be involved in whatever happened to him.

What if he only came that once to see him until he awakes to know if he had seen anything or know anything about his accident?

When he found out he was still clueless, he left without coming back after acting like the best brother in front of the detectives.

It was even Zakariah who found him first and was the one who screamed his name when he was about to get hit.

" Arrghh" he groaned as a sharp pain cursed through his forehead. Replaying that very day usually gave him migraines.

It was more traumatic than he thought it was.

He knew Zakariah was not supposed to be home at that time of the day. He should still be at Ink, working.

Ink was never the type to let their workers off by that time of the day when they were not done with their daily duties.

It was around 7 p.m. When he did what he did to burnt haven's gate and Zakariah comes home 10 PM everyday. He was surprisingly early and in time to witness what happened.

Could he be over thinking this or could his brother know something about him getting hit by that truck?

If only that cat he saw was human. He was sure the furry creature saw it all.

It would have seen who was driving that truck and why they disappeared with no trial and also no blood or wound.

During their last visit, the detectives also mentioned no prints were found whatsoever on the truck and also it was not registered under any name.

It was as if something jumped from heaven to hit him and disappered back to heaven.

Anyway, he was going out now.

Away from the hospital and back into his life.

This time, he would make it all better.
