Truth of the matter

After this the members of the Lin and Bai clan left the city lord's mansion with Marquis Chen and proceeded to the forest area in the south. Once they had reached the location of the crime scene Marquis Chen removed the Compass and turned to the crowd.

"I will now use the World Searching Compass to determine the truth. I hope no one will object to the results."

With that he proceeded to manipulate the arrays and circles present on the Compass. This went on for a few minutes.

"I hope the Lin clan is ready to take responsibility."

"For the last time Bai Mo, Lin clan is not responsible for Bai Yun's death."

"The truth will be out soon."

The Lin and Bai clan started arguing again.

Suddenly Marquis Chen turned to Bai Tian and asked, "It's strange. According to you Fire and Earth magic were used but there are traces of Wind and Combat magic too. Look."

With that he showed the Compass to everyone. Above the compass particles of light were floating. The particles of light were composed of 5 different colors: light blue, red, yellow, green and grey. Light blue represented water, red for fire, yellow for earth, green for wind and grey for combat.

"Marquis Chen, isn't it possible for these magics to be used by some other mage?" Bai Tian argued.

Marquis Chen went in deep thought. After a few minutes he bit his hand and put a drop of blood on the compass and started to manipulate the circles and arrays. This time even the Lin and Bai clan watched silently. After a few minutes he showed the compass again. This time the four types of light particles were floating on one end of the compass and one type of light particles on the other side.

"Look carefully. The elements of fire, earth, wind and combat magic are together while the elements of water magic are singled out. If there were more mages it would be scattered. The light blue particles obviously represent Bai Yun and the other four represent a single mage." Marquis Chen explained to an astonished crowd. The World Searching Compass is truly heaven defying, the crowd thought.

"Here's what I think. Whoever killed Bai Yun was obviously trying to frame the Lin clan. The magical elements are weak and only Tier 1 and Tier 2 magic was used which means the killer was at most in the realm of Intermediate Mage. The Lin clan is innocent." Marquis Chen continued.

This made sense as most elders of Lin and Bai clan were experts at the Great Mage realm.

Bai Mo coldly looked at the Lin clan and said, "I apologies for the previous offense. The Bai clan will no longer pursue this matter." With this the Bai clan left.

After thanking Marquis Chen, Lin Hao also left with the members of the Lin clan.

Marquis Chen was left there alone. Suddenly a youth who looked in his twenties appeared out of thin air and asked Marquis Chen, "Sir, may I ask why you resolved the situation? If you let them fight their power would have weakened and it would have been easier to control them."

"True. But right now, peace is important to Voidgate city. Tomorrow the recruiters from Fēnglong Academy are arriving in Voidagte city. The situation would be unfavorable for recruitment if a war broke out. My goal is for Lian'er to get in the Academy.
