97 Stop asking her those questions

Her panicked expression unusually warmed his heart, and he patted her hand lightly before leaving her.

She muttered a swear word under her breath that was too low for anyone to hear. Ying Yue had been through complicated spy missions and had gone through various undercover work. She even had to pretend to be a rich young lady a few times for her investigative work. Surely, this should be no big deal to her. Besides, even Fei Huangjin believed everything would be fine. She took a deep breath and turned around to face the tigresses in the living room. The initially worried look on her face had eased into a confident, small smile.

Grandma Fei patted the seat beside her as she gazed soulfully into Ying Yue's eyes. "Come here, child. Sit down."

She did as she was told and sat down calmly, feeling the eyes of both Fei women on her.

"Which Ying family are you from? I don't remember a prominent family in S city with that surname." Lin Wenshun cocked her head to one side, seeming like she was scrutinizing the young lady from head to toe. She was dressed decently, but nothing too impressive. She even heard that this girl was her son's secretary. "Or is the Ying family from a different place?"

Ying Yue was about to answer her when the old madame snapped at Fei Huangjin's mother like an elderly hen. "Oh stop asking her those questions. The important thing is that Huangjin likes her."

"Mother, the Fei family is not a place where just anyone could marry into." Her eyes blazed, a bit similar to Fei Huangjin's when he was off scolding people at the office. "Who knows if this woman chased him just to take a piece of the Fei family fortune."

Ying Yue suppressed the urge to roll her eyes and smack Fei Huangjin's mother in the head. If she only knew it was Fei Huangjin who did the chasing and even dragged her all the way here, she wondered if his mother would faint on the spot.

And take a piece of the family fortune? Excuse me, she thought, but I have enough fortune in my own bank account. She didn't need Fei Huangjin's money to live comfortably.

"Lin Wenshun! Just because you came from a prominent family yourself, does not mean you can be rude to the girl. You should be happy that your son has found a woman for himself." Grandma Fei almost thought Fei Huangjin was gay before news broke out that he was dating this girl. The whole family should thank this Ying Yue, really.

The way the two women of the Fei's were talking, as if Ying Yue wasn't even there, started to annoy her. If Fei Huangjin's mother said one more word meant to embarrass her, she was really going to throw caution and gracefulness to the wind and make that woman shut up.

"He can always find someone more deserving, mother. A mere secretary with a meager income--"

"Mrs. Fei," Ying Yue started to say. Her hands were clenched into fists as she plastered on a big, sardonic smile. She couldn't hold back any longer by acting like a nice little lady. If his mother thought she could just be bullied like this, she better think again!

There was a flash of surprise on Lin Wenshun's face as she turned to Ying Yue. How dare this girl cut her off while she was speaking? "You're a disrespectful little thing, aren't you?"

Even Grandma Fei angled her head to look at her.

The smile on Ying Yue's face didn't fade, in fact, she seemed to sit up even straighter than she did a while ago. "First of all, respect is earned -- not given freely, and not demanded of. You didn't even "respect" me by talking badly about me and pretending I'm not here, so why should I respect you? Second, I am not a "thing," I am a human being. I can hear you, I can talk to you, and I can even rip that hundred thousand-dollar dress off you if I really wanted to."

Lin Wenshun's jaw dropped in disbelief, while Grandma Fei started laughing silently, covering her mouth elegantly with one hand. No wonder her grandson liked this girl. She wasn't such a simple one, after all.

She liked this Ying Yue very much already!

"And third," Ying Yue continued, delivering her final blow. "If you don't want me to be your son's girlfriend, go talk to him, not me. It's not my fault that he wants to be with me. Not every woman is like you, who stays married to a man despite being unwanted."
