7 Protecting Me For Your King

************

CHAPTER 7

"So now we focus on not getting you killed," Astoria's voice pulled him back from his thoughts.

"Huh?" A thought came to his mind and he decided to voice it out.

Standing up, he made his way over to her with a hand in his pocket and the other brushing back his black hair.

"By the way, do you really love me or this is just a form of you protecting me for your king?"

Astoria could not believe her ears. How did he come to such a conclusion? She was ready to lash out at him when she paused and pondered on his question and from his perspective, given what she had told him, there was a high chance probability that the same thought would have crossed her mind.

"I won't get mad at you." She took a sigh and continued.

"In order to do my job, I have been living close to you, right from when you were small to protect you. When your first incident with the demons happened at age five, I was there alongside my parents to protect you. After your mother took you away due to the strange things happening, I enrolled in your school and have been keeping a close watch on you."

"With what you are saying, you are making it seem like you did all of that for the contract."

"No. I want you to understand that since we were kids we have known each other and although it seems that way, I grew up loving you. I know it may seem hard to believe but trust me, I honestky di not know why the others do not see anything good about you."

:"Thank you."

"I am sorry. I meant that as a compliment," Astoria quickly tried to make him see reason.

"I know. Anyways, what is the next move? I am guessing since they know my school, they also know where I live?"

"It is safe to assume that. That is why we must ensure we are on high alert. Relax, I would go and speak to the council. For now, we need to ensure all is okay."

"Alright. How about your wound?" He pointed at where she was stabbed.

Her gaze trailed down to her stomach and sighed. She looked back up only to see him with a shocked expression on his face.

"Your… your wound, it has healed!"

"Yes. For vampires, we heal easily. Mine only took time because of the paralysis poisoning she used. While you, it is your first major time to be injured by such a weapon and though it should be slow, surprisingly, it is fast."

"So, is that a good thing or not?"

"It is good. Now you should sit back here and relax, okay?"

"Wait, where are you going?"

"She let out a small sigh just from thinking about it. He was the curious one, wasn't he?

"I am going for business. I need to report this fight in."

"Okay, can I come with you?"

"NO!"

His eyes widened at her immediate response before relaxing. She felt guilty by his reaction and changed her tone of voice.

"I am sorry. What I meant was that I am not going to be in the human world, but I am going to be in the vampire world."

"Alright then. I would be here."

"Thanks. Please do not go outside for now. I need you to be safe."

For sometime after they left, Sabrina remained where she was on the ground with eyes blazed with rage.

She could still not believe that she had gotten him but due to the fact that she had underestimated Astoria, they escaped.

Now she knelt there with her body bleeding in and she paralysed.

For Vampires it had a short time frame but for them demons, it was more than that.

She felt a sudden dark presence behind her and her eyes thinned down a bit as realization dawned on her as to who it was.

"Hahhaa..." His deep baritone voice resounded from behind her, sending chills down her spine.

She hated the fact that he had to be the one to come and meet her.

To crown it up, he was going to see her like this. in this disgraceful state. It was a huge bummer to her name.

"So, a human and a vampire bested you a mighty demonness. What should I call this, Sabrina?"

He walked up to her front while staring down at her with amusement and a mischievous smirk.

She gritted her teeth at first but once she lifted her head, a pleasant smile shone on her beautiful face, illuminating more of her darkside.

"You call this a disgrace huh?" She shook her head at him.

"If not, what should I call this then?"

"I do not know but it is just a minor set back."

"Of course because you were too confident that you would get him in one swell move. What were you thinking?"

"Nothing. Astoria took me by surprise. Up till now our strength differs."

"Hahhaa..." Even though he was laughing, she sensed a different kind of vibe from him. "Did you feel that while you trained and got better to where you are that Astoria would still be the same child she was back then?"

"No."

"Grow up, Sabrina. The world doesn't revolve around you."

'Damn you Conrad! I would make you pay.' She promised in her mind.

"I warned you and told you to let me join in but you wanted the glory right? I hope you are ready to bear the shame alone."

"No shame in beating Astoria."

"Lies." He placed a hand on his hip while the other was tucked in his pocket. "Did you think I did not watch the fight? You girls were on par. You only exceeded her by 2 %. Her only problem was the fact that she had underestimated you to come in full attack mode."

"Bummer for her then. Anyways release me already," she hissed.

She hated the fact that she was on her knees while talking to him.

His eyes blazed with even more mischief as he voiced out. "Tsk, if I wanted I would have done that since. Or have you forgotten I watched how you fell into your trap?"
