My Unexpected Fate

It was in the middle of June when it happened. Maybe it is in the past, or the future, who knows? But maybe you don't even know what I'm talking about. So let me start my story.

**********

It was in the middle of June. I'm was doing my usual hobbies. Inventing somethings new. This time, I'm short of one component to complete my work, an antenna. I had to go out of my garage and walked to the electronic store in the town. I don't usually use my car to save my fuel. I'm just a worker for some company that I don't even remember of. I only invented something new not for the benefits of humanity, but for fun.

I walked to the town through a park. It's a pretty, beautifully made park. The birds chirping, the sights of people jogging in the middle of the day like some douche bag, really made it like a heaven.

I lied. It's hot, annoying birds chirping, the sweat from the joggers was dripping and it hit my clothes.

As I walk down the pathways, There was a girl around my age, taking photographs with her camera. I feared to talk to her as I always made things awkward when I talked to girls. It's always have. So I walked as fast as I could past her.

But I failed. She noticed me. "Hello," She said as she turned from her camera to face me. She looked very beautiful. Her dark eyes really suited her brown hair. Her hair was very long that it reached just above her hips. "What a good weather today, isn't it?".

"Indeed it is." I replied. Tried to end the conversation as fast as I could.

She looked straight at my eyes. She smiled. "You're lying, right?".

Busted.

I was waiting for her to get angry, just like any other girls. But she didn't. Instead, she said, "I like people like you. You're worried to hurt their feelings, so you lie to them just to make them feel comforted."

"I think you're exaggerating." Indeed she was. That thought had not cross my mind at all.

"No, I'm not." She said. "I know what are you thinking just by looking at your eyes." She turned to face the town. "It's hot, isn't it? Wanna grab a drink?"

As I said before, I'm afraid to talk to girls. I want to grab my antenna ASAP and returned home. But when I looked at her beautiful face...

"Why not?" I replied.

**********

We drank in the pub in the town. We drank to our fullest that we were not realised that it was already night.

The town was decorated by colourful lights all around. The cars passed by us as we walked towards the park using the roadside.

She stretched her body as a sign of satisfaction. "What a fun day!". She said. "Don't you have fun too?"

"Yeah, I did too." I replied with my normal bland face.

"Your face doesn't show it."

"You can tell by the eyes, right?"

"Indeed I can."

She turned to me. She opened her mouth like she wanted to say something. That moment, a car passed by, making a loud noise as it passed me. Because of it, I missed what she wanted to say. "Can you repeat that?"

"Nope." She smiled.

Suddenly, a man was running along the roadside. He ran so fast that I didn't noticed him before his shoulder hit hers. She was pushed to the road. I tried to catch her, but it was too late.

A car ran over her.

People then started to gather around her. "Is she dead?" "Look at her. " "Poor girl." People whispered around her. She was covered with blood. Her clothes was red, drenched in her own blood. I was supposed to be the first one to went to her. But my legs were frozen and shaken. it's my fault.

But then, I realised something. "Yes. That could solve everything." I ran to the electronic store and buy the antenna and ran home.

I rushed into my garage. I switched on the garage. The lights shone the room as the middle of it has a human size cylinder container. I ran toward it and put the antenna on top of it.

"It's finally finished." I murmured to myself. "My time machine!"

I entered the container. In it, there's a screen with four column. It shows seconds, minutes, hours, and days. He entered 30 minutes into the screen.

The engine started running and I'm feeling sleepy for some reason. As soon as I knew, I fell asleep.

As soon as I open my eyes, I was in the bar in the town. The girl that was sitting beside me was the same girl from earlier.

"I made it. I made a time machine!" The thought just ran through my head and it made me quite happy. But it can't be compared to when I saw the girl beside me.

"What's wrong?" She asked. "Are you not feeling well?"

Without any thought, I hugged her. Her face turned red as she was embarrassed. Even so, she didn't said anything. Suddenly, she said, "It's too early for us, you know? We just met today-"

"No, I'm just very happy right now."

She then hugged me back slowly when she heard that.

We went out of the pub. The night was beautiful as before.

She stretched her body out of satisfaction. As before. "What a great day."

We then kept walking and talking like before as we walked down the roadside. Then, a man ran towards us. Not like before, I had prepared myself for this. "Watch out!" I screamed and pulled her away, like it is the first time I saw it.

"That was close." She said. "Thanks for saving me. I may owe you my life." She joked. But I didn't laugh at it.

We continued to walk down the roadside without anymore accident.

That's what I thought.

We continued to walk down the roadside. We walked approaching a construction site for a shopping complex apparently. It only had it's structure. The base one that they use only iron.

Suddenly, I heard a clanking sound from above. that's when I knew that something had gone wrong. I looked above me and a huge pile of steel pole came down from above. I tried to pushed her away,...

But I tripped.

The pierced through her head. Right in front of my eyes. I could see her brain squashed by it's sharp end.

I puked. I screamed afterwards. Not because I wanted to attract people to me, but I resented my fate. Why her. Why is it always her that had to suffer. She hadn't did anything wrong.

I bought the antenna again and turn the time backwards again.

She keeps dying.

She died again.

Dead! by some trivial things. Everytime I save her, she kept dying. Again and again and again. She died by falling off the river, a vase fell from above, a serial killer, and other ways she could die that you could think of.

Is there no other way to save her? I asked the question to myself many time as I could.

Then I realised something. I bought the antenna for the last time and ran home. I put the antenna on top kg the machine and did the same thing as before. Only this time, I turned the time back 6 hours backward. I fell asleep.

As I opened back my eyes, I was in my garage, trying to complete my time machine.

I've turned back time before I met her. I walked to the park in the middle of the day. But this time, I didn't want to buy an antenna.

I walked down the pathways in the park. The birds chirping, some people are jogging,...

I still hate it.

Then I saw a girl taking photograph with her camera. I stopped at the sight of her. She still looks like an angel. With her dark eyes, combined with her long brown hair, really made me wanted to cry.

She suddenly turned to face me. "Hello," She said. "It's a nice weather today, isn't it?" She smiled.

"No, it's like a piece of shit. God must hate people like you who were lying. The weather is crapping hot today!"

"I hate you man. You're too honest." She frowned.

I giggled.

I walked home and threw the machine in the trash.

Honestly, I hate my fate.
