“Pete?”

“Uh.” I hadn’t realised I’d said his name aloud.

“Thought you said you two weren’t, uh, compatible.”

“Yes, no. I mean, Pete’s gay. Don’t you fancy him? I mean, he plays rugby like you and he’s—”

“Don’t know about fancying him.” That cocky grin made another appearance. “Of course I know he’s got the hots for me.”

I rolled my eyes.

“I know, conceited arsehole. Yep, that’s me. Though you gotta admit, I have a lot to be conceited about.” He spread his arms.

“Yeah, right.” The bastard knew how irresistible he was.

“But being serious, Pete’s a great mate, but I don’t feel the same way about him that I do for you.”

I should have felt comforted by that but I was still worried.

“We can take our time, you know, sex wise. Maybe that’s where I went wrong with women. It was sex first then…nothing. With you there’s already something. And I want to build on that.”
