4 4. Chitoge

Yuki turned to the voice and it just happened to belong to Shu Maiko. From his memories, Shu was the only person who greeted him every morning, which didn't make sense to him, since he never responded to his greetings.

Still, Yuki put on a slight smile before returning the greeting, "Good morning Shu-san." and walked to sit in his protagonist seat.

Shu and the few that heard the interaction were dumbfounded. They knew that not once had Yuki responded to someone's greeting.

"Is Yuki in a good mood today? I've never heard him greet anyone!"

"I know right? Something good must have happened."

'...' Yuki really felt like they were exaggerating. He decided to just ignore their nonsense and tried to fall asleep.

Yuki 'woke up' when he heard the homeroom teacher (Kyoko Nichihara) speaking. He looked up and heard her introducing someone.

"Come on in, Ms. Kirisaki."

"Haii."

Looking at Chitoge who just entered the classroom, Yuki had to admit that this girl was really beautiful.

"Hello everyone. I'm Chitoge Kirisaki, and I transferred here from the US. I've got a Japanese mom and an American dad, so I'm biracial. But as you can see, I speak perfect Japanese, so please don't be shy about approaching me!" (Ctrl c, ctrl v)

The class burst into cheers as they admired the foreigner. The teacher told Chitoge to take a seat. It was then that Chitoge and Raku recognized each other before they started arguing.

Yuki stayed awake for this part since he wanted to witness the argument. And sure enough, it started. Yuki wasn't sure, but it looked like sparkles were flying as they argued (in the anime anyway).

It was then that Yuki heard Raku say, "That's how you apologize? Why, you... Monkey girl!"

"Who are you calling a monkey girl?" said Chitoge as she punched Raku across the classroom. The class was stunned while Chitoge was embarrassed at her outburst.

Meanwhile, at the back of the class, Yuki couldn't hold in his laughter and it echoed in the classroom.

"Hahaha! I never thought that today would be so interesting!"

The class stared at Yuki like he was an alien, which he found uncomfortable, so he asked, "Is there something wrong?" The class then immediately burst into a discussion.

"Did Yuki just laugh? I didn't know he could!"

"Did you see his face while he was laughing? Since when was Yuki-kun so handsome?"

"He always looked handsome. It's just that he never smiles!"

"He really is in a good mood today."

Yuki ignored their banter and stared out the window. He didn't notice how Chitoge was staring at him.

Yuki spent the first half of the school day attentively listening in class. He managed to make some light conversation with some of the boys during classes, which completely surprised them.

During this time, he managed to get the skills [English: B], [History: C], [Geography: C], and [Mathematics: B]. When his skills got upgraded to B rank, it gave him a more profound understanding of the subjects than he had in his previous life. Like Maths, for example, calculations that he had once required ten minutes to solve, had been reduced to two minutes.

It was now time for their lunch break. Yuki got up and escaped the classroom. His classmates kept questioning him since he started talking to them. He decided to see if he could get to the roof.

While he was walking, he happened to come across Chitoge and Raku having an argument about notes. He pretended he didn't see anything and walked upstairs.

When he finally got to the rooftop, he realized how beautiful the view of the town was from here. While he was lost in thought, someone walked up to him and tapped his shoulder. Although he was a bit surprised, he didn't react much since Chika used to do the same thing.

He was surprised to see that it was Chitoge, but still put on a smile as he greeted her, "Can I help you Kirisaki-san?"

Chitoge didn't respond as she stared at his face for a while. Yuki couldn't help but get embarrassed and asked, "Is there something on my face?"

This seemed to bring Chitoge out of her thoughts and she blushed a little "A-ah, ahem. Sorry, I just thought you looked familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?"

Yuki couldn't help but tease her a little, "Those pick-up lines won't work on me. Shouldn't you introduce yourself first?"

Chitoge's blush spread a little as she shouted, "That wasn't my intention at all!"

"Sorry, I couldn't help but want to tease you."

Chitoge chose to ignore that sentence as she changed the topic, "A-anyway, I'm Chitoge Kirisaki. Nice to meet you em..."

"Yuki Takahashi (We can talk about it), call me whatever you want."

"Then Takahashi-kun."

Yuki had a smile on his face, which Chitoge found very enchanting and couldn't help but blush. The two then proceeded to spend the break talking, sowing seeds that will eventually bloom.
