Chapter Eight
EROS' POV
I was working on our current project which is our alliance with Mr. Rodriguez when Ivan walked.
"Sup E... what's the latest. Haven't heard from you after the last time we spoke" he said while comfortably taking a seat in the cushion in my office.
"So were you able to convince your parents regarding the marriage talk?", He asked me further.
"Honestly I have no say in this matter any longer, they have solely made their decision so I have no choice" I replied him.
"Wow...the great Eros just succumbed to his parents without a fight, this is really new", Ethan mocked me.
"Since I am not going to fight this, the girl, my so called wife will suffer the consequences", I said smirking evily.
"Just so you know I don't think the poor girl has anything to do with your parents decision so why punish her?" he asked me
"She shouldn't have agreed to this marriage in the first place", I fired back.
"Just like you weren't given a choice probably she wasn't given one too", He retorted.
"Wait whose side are you on again?" I asked him.
"No one just trying to stop you from acting irrationally" he said back.
"I am done with the newly revised proposal and contract for Mr. Rodriguez so I think you should go through it" I said changing the topic. I think he grasped the situation as well.
"Send it to my email I will go through it later in the day", He replied.
After the day's work I returned home and to my surprise again the lights were still on and my parents sat in the living room I guess waiting for me to shock me again.
"Your dinner is on the dining table" my mum said. I have eyes I can see them I muttered to myself.
"What did you say?" My mum asked me
"Nothing..." I replied her immediately.
"We will be visiting your in-law's family next week Saturday for dinner so be prepared and do not forget" my dad said with his deep baritone voice.
Mehn and that's when I knew that things were getting pretty serious. I walked up the stairs towards my room because I don't think I will be able to stomach the dinner.
EVELYN'S POV
My mum is going to come back from the hospital today so I came back from college earlier than expected. With the help of Ethan we went for grocery shopping and bought some stuff for dinner. I made dinner by myself because Ethan is a walking disaster in culinary affairs.
He helped me in cleaning the whole house and we decorated the living room with some balloons and a banner with "welcome back home mum " creatively and boldly written on it.
As soon as we heard my dad's car pulling up the driveway we put off the light and hid. We heard the sound of the key clicking in and immediately the lights turned on I and Ethan shouted at the same time.
"Surprise!!!" My mum was literally blown away, she was all smiles and was grinning from ear to ear. I guess she wasn't expecting this. Even dad too looked happy and surprised as well.
"Welcome home mum" I said while hugging her.
"Welcome home Mrs Carter" Ethan said while handing my mum a bouquet of red roses.
"Thank you dear" my mum said to Ethan while hugging him.
"So I made dinner, come on to the dinning table" I told them while leading the way.
"Hmmm something nice really smells here, is that chicken I perceive?" My dad asked smiling.
"Yes...chicken, fried rice and salad, mum's favorite" I said.
We all sat down and I dished the food for everyone. Dad said the grace and we all dug in and ate.
"Wow this sure taste very nice, you should change your major asap" Ethan said.
"I have the skills already so no need to major in it. I replied him proudly.
"True, you could easily pass off as a chef with these skills of yours " Ethan complimented me.
We ate silently for a few minutes before dad broke the silence.
"The Taylor's will be coming over this weekend for a proper introduction" my dad said.
"The Taylor's? " I asked my dad confused.
"Yes, that's your in-laws. The family you are getting married to", my dad completed. Immediately my dad said that Ethan choked on his food and I handed him a glass of water to drink.
After that the rest of the dinner was ate in silence and it was slightly awkward as well especially between Ethan and I.
After the dinner, Ethan helped me in clearing the plate and the table and I placed the dirty plates into the dishwasher. Ethan didn't have to leave immediately because his house was just across ours and besides he can't go back to where he stays with Maddison because it was already late.
We headed to my room and we sat on the bed. After a few minutes of awkward silence Ethan finally asked what I was dreading he would ask me.
"What was that during dinner ?" he asked.
"What was what?" I asked him innocently pretending not to know what he was asking about
"Don't act all ignorant with me Evelyn, what did your dad mean by 'your in-law's are coming this weekend '" he asked me outrightly.
"Well it is definitely what you heard, I am getting married" I told him trying to sound excited at the thought.
"Evelyn I have known you for a very long time to know that this is bullshit. You are not even dating anyone currently neither have you ever been in love so what's with the marriage talk" he asked me.
"You don't really need to be in love to get married do you? I asked him back.
"Wait are your parents forcing you to get married against your wish" he asked me perplexed.
"You of all people should know that my parents will never do that" I retorted back.
"Besides what is it with you, you shouldn't be worked up about my marriage you already have a girlfriend" I fired back angrily.
"Why shouldn't I care, you have been my bestfriend since we were little so it would be abnormal if I didn't care or feel concerned" he said calmly.
I guess he had a point too because I know that I will be very much concerned if he was the one getting married.
"I'm sorry if I said anything wrong but I was really hurt that I had to hear such a thing from your parents mouth before I heard it from you" he said bowing his head down.
"Atleast I thought I meant something to you just like you mean to me", He said sadly.
I felt really guilty for shouting at him after he said those words.
"I am sorry too for shouting at you and saying all those things to you. You know you are all I have after my parents and I just couldn't bring myself to tell you" I said with a tear slipping out from eye. What's wrong with me I cry very easily these days which is so unlike me.
"Hey Lyn...it's okay" he said while wiping my tears.
"So is the guy nice? Does he treat you well? Is he more handsome than me?I guess this is what girls will talk about in this situation" Ethan asked me jokingly.
"Yeah he is good and he equally has nice parents and manners" I said. He is someone I haven't even met I silently muttered to myself.
"It is getting late so I guess I should head home" Ethan said while standing up. I equally stood up as well to see him off and lock the door.
