1 Rebirth

In a small apartment in the downtown area of Aline, a young man is tossing and turning in his bed. His comforter has already been thrown to the ground with only the edges of it clinging to his foot like a coiling snake as he rolled left to right. Visible drops of sweat are running down his forehead, the sheets underneath him are already soaked enough to squeeze water out. His face contorted in pain as he continued to toss and turn in his bed.

He prevented himself from rolling onto the floor by instinct alone. He had already been like this for the last ten minute. Fortunately, it only took another five minutes of struggling before everything finally settled for the young man was able to finally calm down and get some sleep.

It wasn't until the next day that Kamara was able to finally wake up. He is sore all over his body and just as tired. If his stomach wasn't screaming at him to eat, he wouldn't have even woken up. But basic needs needed to be met and he was never one to ignore his needs. As he laboredly got out of bed, pulling himself up from the soaked sheets he finally started to truly take in everything that was around him.

All of it felt familiar to him, yet unfamiliar at the same time. He knew the reason why it was like this, but he had more important things to do at the moment. He needed to eat first, he was having a hard time even thinking due to the hunger pains.

Kamara finally pulled himself from bed and trudged out the door towards where he remembered his kitchen was. The walk to the kitchen was only ten feet, but it might as well have been a marathon for Kamara. As his sore and tired body didn't allow him to move as quickly as he wanted, needing to use the wall as a support. Overall, turning a two or three-second walk into a few minutes. When Kamara finally made it to the kitchen, it was as if the secondary engines on a spaceship finally kicked in. He beelined for the fridge with speed a man in his condition shouldn't have.

There wasn't much in there, just an unfinished takeout meal, a few fruits, vegetables, cheese, and some deli meat. But like a teenager at 3 am, Kamara devoured any edible thing he could find in his fridge. The food never stood a chance against the beast he had become. The food in the fridge wasn't enough to calm the monster inside of Kamara so he went to other areas of the kitchen to plunder. Whole villages of bread and uncooked noodles were wiped from the face of the planet in a matter of minutes. Seas of marinara sauce and mushroom cream soup dried up. The isles of peanut butter and jelly sunk into pits of acids. The Kitchocalypse had hit and it was unforgiving and unrelenting.

After the beast had finally satiated itself in slaughter, it finally left the kitchen and trudged along to its next destination. Destruction and chaos were all that was left in his quake, the villages of Kitchen would never be the same after that event.

After eating Kamara could feel his mind clearing up. With a full stomach, he made his way towards his bathroom so that he could get the sticky feeling off of him. So this time with a bit more energy in his step he made his way back down the hall towards his bathroom.

He quickly showered, brushed his teeth, and shampooed his hair before stepping out of the shower. By the time he was finished the bathroom was covered in a thick layer of steam fogging up the glass, denying him his first good look at himself. He tried to wipe the glass a couple of times to get a good look, but it didn't work. So with a shake of his head, he walked out of the bathroom back to his room to get dressed for the rest of the day. His posture was much better than before, the shower had truly rejuvenated him.

Making his way across the hall to his room he decided to check himself out to see what he was working within this life.

He was pleasantly surprised by what he saw. Kamara had reincarnated into a Dark-skinned man, with brown eyes, and unkempt natural hair. He had a good bit of hair on his chin, but clearly, he was still in the growth process of what would be his beard. Overall he looked as young as he was, 20.

Checking out the rest of his body, he could tell he was around the 5'7" to 5'9" area. Probably a bit overweight, but the weight didn't look bad on him. When he looked at his stomach he wasn't upset, he was always one to believe that a bit of weight added character. Overall he wouldn't say that he was dropped dead gorgeous or anything, but if he got a haircut and dressed better he could be considered 8/10. At least to people who found his body type attractive.

Once he finished checking out his new body, he got dressed. Not into anything special just a black sweatsuit. He didn't plan on leaving today, he had to do some research first.

Once his clothes were on Kamara sat back down on his bed, he wanted to check his phone to see what was different in this world. He knew that he was going to be sent to an alternate earth, but he didn't know how different it would be. His memories helped him get a general gist of things, but he needed more details if he wanted to make his current plan work out. But when he sat down he immediately regretted it. He had forgotten just how soaked his bedspread was from his awakening. He then noticed that the rest of his room was a mess also.

He had been so focused on eating and other things that he forgot to take a good look at the room and the rest of the place. While he wasn't living like a pig, it wasn't as clean as he wanted to be.

So before he did anything else, Kamara decide to clean his place before he did anything. He felt cramped and dirty when his areas weren't neat and organized.

So for the next three hours, Kamara went on a cleaning spree of his apartment. But he quickly realized that most areas didn't need to be cleaned, it was more than they needed to be dusted off. As thick layers of dust had built up over time. His living room was a particularly bad place. The floor was so caked in dust that when he took steps there would be footprints on the ground.

It was during this time that Kamara looked back on his life and realize that the part of his soul that took over was like a robot. It lived incredibly efficiently and didn't do anything that was outside of that. If there was no point in doing it, then it wouldn't do it. In fact, the only reason he had a living room in the first place was that the soul piece thought people would judge it if it never put any furniture in. Nobody ever came over but it was a safety precaution that it felt was necessary, due to past issues about his mental capacity at a young age. Being a purely efficient human does not make one look the sanest.

The kitchen area was also bad, as it hadn't been cleaned the best either. Just enough to not cause any bugs to come venturing for a meal. It wasn't necessarily hard to clean his kitchen, but it was the most time-consuming. A good hour and a half were spent just here.

But he felt that all of it was worth it from the satisfaction he received after he was done. With his apartment finally done, Kamara felt he could finally start to do some research. This time he went and sat on his couch.

With that, he opened up his GPhone and went to the internet to check what was different about this world. He spent the rest of his day going through different historical sights and looking up popular websites. Even did some deep diving into the differences in internet culture.

While he couldn't say he was shocked by the differences, it could be said that Kamara was pleasantly surprised by what he read and learned. Also, he was slightly proud. By the end, he was by no means an expert, but he felt he had about a middle schooler's understanding of things.
